Topline Google is committing $40 billion toward the construction of three data centers in Texas, according to multiple outlets, doing so as a rush of competing companies in the artificial intelligence sector build their own AI infrastructure in the Lone Star State. Pichai announced the project Friday. The data centers will be located in Armstrong County and Haskell County, Bloomberg reported, citing CEO Sundar Pichai, who said at a news conference the “investment will create thousands of jobs, provide skills training to college students and electrical apprentices, and accelerate energy affordability initiatives throughout Texas.” Gov. Greg Abbott said Texas will have the highest number of Google data centers in the world if the company’s three data centers materialize, according to Bloomberg. What Other Ai Companies Are Investing In Texas Data Centers? Texas has become an attractive state for the data centers thanks to its land availability and cheaper electricity for industrial uses. OpenAI, which recently established a for-profit arm valued at $500 billion, is constructing a flagship AI data center in Abilene, Texas, slated to open in 2026. The data center is one of multiple the company plans to launch as part of a larger project that will establish more infrastructure in Ohio and New Mexico. Anthropic announced this week a $50 billion investment to build.
