World number one Carlos Alcaraz announced on Tuesday that he is withdrawing from this week’s Shanghai Masters due to “physical issues.”
The Spaniard sustained an ankle injury during his opening match in Tokyo but continued to compete. Despite the setback, Alcaraz managed to overcome American Taylor Fritz with a 6-4, 6-4 victory in the final of the Japan Open.
However, the injury has now forced him to pull out of the upcoming tournament as he focuses on recovery.
