### Barbara Evans Had a Stroke Last Week
Insiders revealed that the stroke occurred last week. Fortunately, Barbara was discharged and is now at home recuperating. She is expected to make a full recovery.
Jenelle Evans, who currently lives in Las Vegas, flew to North Carolina to be with her mother and family during this difficult time. Jenelle was unable to travel earlier due to sinus surgery, which temporarily prevented her from flying.
### Jenelle and Barbara’s Complicated History
Jenelle and her mother Barbara have had a tumultuous relationship over the years. In 2010, Barbara was granted legal custody of Jenelle’s oldest son, Jace, after Jenelle agreed to relinquish her parental rights. However, in 2017, the custody arrangement was amended to include a specific visitation schedule, granting Jenelle more time with Jace.
In 2023, Jenelle regained custody of Jace, but their relationship has seen its share of challenges. Reports included incidents of Jace running away from home and police involvement.
In May 2025, Jenelle sent Jace to live with his father in Florida, but he returned to her home in Las Vegas shortly after. Then, in August, Jace leaked text messages between him and Jenelle, claiming she lied about an incident involving her ex-husband, David Eason, allegedly strangling him. He labeled Jenelle “crazy” and threatened to expose “how Jenelle really is.” Jace also wrote, “I need to go back to NC she is just really unstable,” alongside messages of Jenelle cursing at him.
### Jenelle’s Response to Jace’s Leaked Text Messages
Jenelle took to her Instagram Story to defend herself, stating,
> “My children are my whole world. And everything I do is to try and protect, guide, and love them. Like any parent, I set rules and boundaries. And sometimes that isn’t easy.”
She described Jace posting their private texts as “his reaction to being rightfully disciplined.”
Jenelle continued,
> “And while it hurts to see those moments shared publicly, I know it comes from a place of struggle. Navigating Jace’s medical diagnoses has not been easy, but I have never stopped fighting to make sure he has the resources, love and support he needs. I will always stand by him. No matter what challenges come our way. And I will continue to work on being the best mom I can be to all three of my kids.”
She asked for “empathy, kindness and prayers during this time” for her, Jace, and their family as they work through the issues together.
Later, Jenelle shared that Jace had recently “been in trouble with the law” and is struggling to adjust to the rules set before him. She wrote,
> “I’ve been trying everything to help him navigate it, but we are butting heads in the process. Please give us grace at this time. This is hard on all of us.”
### Current Status of Jenelle and Barbara’s Relationship
Following the text message leak, Jace returned to North Carolina to live with Barbara. In August, Jenelle confirmed on Facebook that she and her mother were “not speaking right now.”
In early September, when asked about Barbara on social media, Jenelle responded,
> “She’s doing good. She’s in North Carolina. She’s hanging in there with Jace.”
She laughed as she added,
> “Sorry, I laugh because it’s like, y’all don’t even know. People think it’s me, and it’s not me. It’s not me.”
Jenelle reflected on her childhood, saying she “grew up with all that yelling and screaming in my house,” and acknowledged that “Jace is going through it,” laughing again.
To date, Jenelle has not publicly commented on her mother’s recent health ordeal.
