Number Of Foreign Residents In Japan Reaches Record 3.95 Million

By nationality and region, Chinese nationals make up the largest group of foreign residents in Japan, with 900,738 individuals. They are followed by Vietnamese residents, totaling 660,483, and South Koreans at 409,584.

Meanwhile, as of July, the number of foreigners staying illegally in Japan totaled 71,229. This figure represents a decrease of 3,634, or 4.9 percent, compared with six months earlier. Among those staying illegally, Vietnamese accounted for the largest share with 13,070 individuals, followed by Thais at 10,924 and South Koreans at 10,286.

The Japanese government has set a clear goal of reducing the number of visa overstayers to zero, aiming to enhance immigration control and maintain social order.
