Tyrese Maxey, Sixers praise Andre Drummond for his work on the floor

PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia 76ers secured a thrilling 102-100 victory over the Boston Celtics on Tuesday, improving their season record to 7-4. The win featured strong contributions from across the roster, with veteran Andre Drummond providing a much-needed boost amid Joel Embiid’s intermittent absences.

Drummond, a two-time All-Star, has been outstanding recently. He posted 17 points and 12 rebounds against the Detroit Pistons on Sunday, followed by 14 points and 13 rebounds in Tuesday’s win over the Celtics. With Embiid currently listed as day-to-day due to a right knee issue, the Sixers continue to lean on Drummond’s consistent performance.

While the team relies on Tyrese Maxey and others to lead on the floor, Drummond’s impact remains crucial. “He’s been great,” Maxey said of Drummond. “He’s been amazing, man. The stuff that he’s done has been really good. He’s rebounded the ball well. He’s shot the ball well. He’s done a good job, man. He’s protecting the paint. We’re glad to have him.”

Drummond also made a key defensive play late in the game against the Celtics. After Kelly Oubre Jr. gave the Sixers a 102-100 lead with 8.7 seconds left, Drummond switched onto Celtics guard Derrick White, knocked the ball away, forced a bobble, and disrupted a final buzzer attempt. It was an impressive display of hustle and presence.

“That was huge,” Sixers coach Nick Nurse said. “Those are just making plays. Drum’s got some quick hands every now and then, but obviously, it was a saving play for that possession. For sure.”

Overall, the Sixers received 22 points from Justin Edwards and 21 from Tyrese Maxey, but it was Drummond who continually came up with the big plays that helped secure the win.

“Big time,” Maxey added about Drummond. “He did a really good job. That’s what he does. He gets deflections, he’s disruptive, and we appreciate him for that.”

The Sixers now have two days off before facing the Detroit Pistons again on Friday in the NBA Cup rematch.
