Former Texans Ace in Critical Condition Following Shooting Incident: Report

**Former Texans DB Kris Boyd Shot in New York, Hospitalized**

The Houston Texans are taking on the Tennessee Titans in Week 11, but a more significant and concerning event involving a former team member unfolded early Sunday morning. Kris Boyd, once a standout special teams player and cornerback for the Texans, was shot in New York and is reportedly in critical but stable condition.

Details are still emerging about the incident, but preliminary reports indicate that the shooting occurred around 2 a.m. ET near Seventh Avenue on West 38th Street. The event reportedly took place outside Sei Less restaurant after a dispute escalated and gunfire broke out. Witnesses at the scene were said to be “uncooperative” with authorities.

According to The New York Post, the alleged shooter fled in a BMW X, and a high-end silver Mercedes-Benz Maybach was also seen leaving the scene. Additionally, a Rhino GX, a luxury armored SUV valued at up to $300,000, was parked at the location.

Boyd reportedly lapsed in and out of consciousness before being rushed to the hospital, where he remains in critical but stable condition. Police have stated that no arrests have been made and that the investigation is ongoing.

A spokesperson for the New York Jets, Boyd’s current team, told media outlets, “We are aware of the situation involving Kris Boyd and will have no further comment at this time.” The Jets did not play on Sunday after losing to the New England Patriots on “Thursday Night Football.” Boyd, currently on injured reserve with a shoulder injury, has not appeared in a game this season.

**Kris Boyd’s Path to the Texans and Notable Incident**

Boyd entered the NFL as a sixth-round pick, selected 217th overall by the Minnesota Vikings. After stints with the Vikings and the Arizona Cardinals, he signed with the Texans as a free agent for the 2023 season.

During his time with Houston, Boyd made headlines for his enthusiastic play—and a moment of controversy. In a heated playoff game against the Kansas City Chiefs, Boyd forced a fumble on the opening kick, and in the excitement, raced to the Texans’ sideline, ripped off his helmet, and shoved special teams coordinator Frank Ross, nearly knocking him over. Although Boyd was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct for removing his helmet, Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans defended him afterward.

“I don’t think he was pushing Frank in a disrespectful manner,” Ryans told reporters, according to ESPN and the Associated Press. “I think it was moreso he was fired up—overly fired up—and thought he made a play to help us. So that narrative that he’s pushing a coach, that’s incorrect.”

Boyd later admitted he was “too fired up” and apologized to Ross for the incident.

**Ongoing Investigation**

As the investigation continues, the football community and fans remain hopeful for Kris Boyd’s recovery. Updates will be provided as more information comes to light.

No NFL Punishment For Dolphins Star Over Josh Allen ‘Disrespect’

The Buffalo Bills will attempt to recover from a demoralizing defeat last week to the 3-7 Miami Dolphins, a game in which they were never competitive, failing to score at all through three quarters on their way to a 30-13 loss. The 6-3 Bills now prepare to host the NFC South-leading Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who also hold a 6-3 record, in what is certainly Buffalo’s most important game of the season so far. This matchup will be televised to most of the country by CBS Sports on Sunday at 1 p.m. Eastern time.

As if the final score were not humiliating enough, Bills three-time Pro Bowl quarterback Josh Allen, the reigning NFL MVP, suffered what officials during the game deemed an outburst of disrespect from a Dolphins defensive end during a five-yard sack late in the fourth quarter.

### Chubb Hit With Penalty After Allen Sack

Officials threw a flag for unsportsmanlike conduct on Miami two-time Pro Bowler, defensive end Bradley Chubb. Specifically, the 15-yard penalty on Chubb was called for taunting. The call was controversial because at no point did Chubb appear to say anything to Allen or gesture toward him.

Perhaps as a result of this, the NFL determined that Chubb’s conduct—while meriting the penalty that set the stage for Allen’s 26-yard touchdown pass to rookie tight end Jackson Hawes on the very next play—did not also deserve a financial punishment. This spared Chubb from what could have been an $11,593 fine, an amount determined by the NFL’s collective bargaining agreement.

The NFL’s decision to let Chubb keep his money does not necessarily mean league officials disagreed with the call made on the field. The NFL Operations Office reviews all plays, whether flagged or not, and independently decides which deserve disciplinary action in the form of fines.

### Officials Demand Players Respect Opponents

So, what was Chubb’s offense? Rather than rolling to the side and off of Allen after the sack, the seven-year veteran crawled forward, moving his body directly over Allen’s face.

“He crawled spread-eagle over Allen, dragging his crotch across Allen, including his face. If his crotch didn’t touch Allen, Chubb certainly gave Allen a good look at it,” wrote NFL rules expert Mark Schultz, explaining the penalty call for the site Football Zebras.

“Officials always tell players to ‘roll off’ other players and then ‘use the ground’ to get back on their feet. This didn’t happen,” Schultz continued, adding that the NFL requires players to refrain from “acts that disrespect an opponent.” In this case, officials deemed Chubb’s actions disrespectful, and the flag flew.

### Chubb Avoids 6th Fine of Career

The NFL has not always been as merciful with Chubb. The former North Carolina State Wolfpack All-American has been fined five times in his career, with total fines amounting to $72,015.

Allen and Chubb have long been linked in another way as well. In the 2018 NFL Draft, the Denver Broncos selected Chubb with the No. 5 overall pick. Just two picks later, the Bills drafted Allen out of Wyoming, where in 2016 he threw the most touchdown passes in the Mountain West Conference with 28, but also the most interceptions with 15.

### Bills’ Division Title Streak at Risk

The Broncos’ then-general manager and Hall of Fame quarterback John Elway later said that drafting Chubb over Allen was “probably my biggest mistake of my GM days, was not taking Josh.”

The No. 1 overall pick in 2018 went to the Cleveland Browns, who took Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield—now the quarterback for Tampa Bay. Mayfield and the Buccaneers will be trying to put a damper on Buffalo’s hopes of winning the AFC East this season.

Comments Show Cowboys WR George Pickens Remains Own Worst Enemy

These are the salad days for the Dallas Cowboys with wide receiver George Pickens. Everything is going great. Pickens, in his first season with the Cowboys after being traded from the Pittsburgh Steelers in the offseason, has been lighting up opposing defenses.

Through six games, Pickens leads the NFL with six receiving touchdowns and ranks fourth in the league with 525 receiving yards. He’s coming off a bravura performance against the Carolina Panthers in Week 6, where he had nine receptions for 168 yards and one touchdown—his second game with over 130 receiving yards this season.

### Pickens Tries to Deflect Blame to Steelers

“That’s been such a vastly different Pickens experience than the Cowboys appear to be having,” Heavy.com’s Sean Deveney wrote on October 16. “Pickens has repeatedly talked about the closeness of the team and the wide receiver room. And his teammates and coaches have pointed out how much fun he is to have around in the locker room. He insists he was the same way with the Steelers, but that there were elements in the organization that sought to damage his image.”

So, what conspiracy or cabal sought to take down Pickens? That part isn’t totally clear.

“Especially off the cameras,” Pickens said. “I mean, I can’t record myself. Definitely, people can put stuff out there that can tarnish your image but I always feel like I was having fun.”

For several reasons, those are some wild things for Pickens to say. That begins with the fact that anyone with a smartphone knows you can record yourself, and ends with the idea that anyone but Pickens himself, all on his own, tarnished his image.

### Steelers’ Christmas Day Nightmare With Pickens

Imagine this: you’re an NFL team getting ready to play on Christmas Day, at home. Not only that, but you’ll be playing in front of tens of millions of people. At home, tens of millions will watch you in the first NFL regular-season games to stream on Netflix. And you’re doing it all against the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs.

That was the situation the Steelers found themselves in on Christmas Day in 2024. And in the time they should have been the most laser-focused and dialed in in the hours leading up to kickoff, they found themselves dealing with a much different issue—that their star player, Pickens, was nowhere to be found.

“After the Steelers’ Week 13 win in Cincinnati, during which Pickens was flagged twice for unsportsmanlike conduct, the coach said the wideout needed to ‘grow up,’” The Athletic’s Mike DeFabo wrote in January 2025. “Pickens sat out the next two games with a hamstring injury. When he was finally healthy, how did he respond? By showing up late for the Christmas Day game against the Kansas City Chiefs.”

Coach Mike Tomlin asks players to report to games at least two hours before kickoff. On December 25, Pickens walked through the media entrance just an hour and 25 minutes before kickoff—after inactive players were announced.

George Pickens is undoubtedly thriving with the Dallas Cowboys, but his past in Pittsburgh is shrouded in controversy and missed opportunities. Only time will tell how his career continues to unfold.
