Grinch Costars Jim Carrey & Taylor Momsen Reunite To Induct Soundgarden Into The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame

Jim Carrey hosted Saturday Night Live back in 1996 on an episode that featured Soundgarden as the musical guest. Four years later, the comedian starred in *How The Grinch Stole Christmas* alongside child actor Taylor Momsen, who played Cindy Lou Who.

Outside of acting, Taylor Momsen grew up to front the band The Pretty Reckless. Interestingly, The Pretty Reckless toured with Soundgarden on what would become Chris Cornell’s final tour.

All these connections came full circle last night at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony. During the event, Jim Carrey and Taylor Momsen reunited for the first time since their *Grinch* days to induct the grunge legends into the Hall of Fame.

Hamas returns body it says is Israeli soldier killed in 2014

Hamas transferred the body it said was Hadar Goldin’s to the International Red Cross over the weekend after finding his remains in a Rafah tunnel on Saturday. The Red Cross then handed over the body to the Israeli military. Israel is conducting forensic testing in Tel Aviv for final confirmation, according to the Jerusalem Post.

If the body is confirmed to be Goldin’s, Hamas will have returned 24 out of 28 of the hostages. However, the delivery of the bodies of Meny Godard, Ran Gvili, Dror Or, and Sudthisak Rinthalak has stalled. Hamas claims it is struggling to locate remains it says are buried in the rubble of war-torn Gaza.

Speaking at the start of a weekly Cabinet meeting on Sunday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Goldin “fell in a heroic battle during Operation Protective Edge, 11 years ago.”

“His body was abducted by Hamas, which refused to return it throughout this entire period. During all these years, we in the governments of Israel have made great efforts to bring him home. All this time, his family has endured deep anguish, and now they will be able to lay him to rest in the land of Israel,” Netanyahu added.

For each hostage returned, Israel has been releasing the remains of 15 Palestinians.

The first phase of former President Donald Trump’s 20-point peace plan for Gaza calls for Hamas to return the remains of all hostages before moving into the second phase of the agreement.

Special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, the diplomatic team that spearheaded the Gaza ceasefire, are expected to travel to Israel on Monday to discuss closing the first phase and transitioning into the second phase of the peace plan. The second phase includes provisions mandating Hamas’s full disarmament.

The plan calls for a full Israeli military withdrawal from Gaza and offers amnesty to Hamas fighters. In exchange, Hamas must give up its weapons, dismantle its military apparatus, and destroy any terrorist infrastructure in Gaza.

“Hamas has always indicated that they would disarm. They said so to us directly,” Witkoff said during remarks last week at the America Business Forum conference in Miami.

“I hope that they keep their word because if they do, they’ll understand that the development plan that we have for Gaza is really terrific — a lot better than anyone has ever discussed before,” he continued, adding that it will include a “tremendous jobs program.”

Sponsors, donors, and volunteer fundraisers help Camp Letts get the most from every registration, ensuring the property is kept up and the magic of camp becomes accessible to more local families.

Organizers say the race appeals to serious runners chasing a Thanksgiving PR—and to families happy just chasing each other. **Strollers are welcome**, and the atmosphere is festive and family-friendly, more “fun run” than “intimidating starting line.” The only real pressure: deciding whether to race in a regular outfit or make it a full turkey costume kind of day!

Bill Belichick bests Frank Reich in NFL reunion game

Bill Belichick and Frank Reich met again on Saturday for the first time since both exited the NFL. In their latest meeting, Belichick’s North Carolina team defeated Reich’s Stanford squad, 20-15.

The game wasn’t pretty. UNC managed just 47 yards of total offense in the first half, and the teams were tied 3-3 at halftime. Despite the slow start, Belichick’s Tar Heels pulled away in the second half to secure the victory.

With this win, Belichick is now 3-1 against Reich in matchups where both serve as head coaches. However, Reich still holds the Super Bowl bragging rights; he coordinated an offense that scored 41 points against Belichick’s Patriots to win the 2017 NFL title.

The victory improved the Tar Heels’ record to 4-5 on the season. With two wins in their final three games, Belichick’s program will become bowl eligible.

“It’s not just one guy or one thing. A collective effort,” Belichick said. UNC has now won two games in a row after weathering an early-season stretch marked by ugly performances and off-field drama.

The Tar Heels will finish the season facing in-state rivals Wake Forest, Duke, and N.C. State. These important matchups will be key to their postseason hopes.

Cook County Crime Stoppers are offering a $10,000 cash reward for information leading to an arrest after two men were fatally shot during a jewelry store robbery in Chicago’s Little Village neighborhood.

According to Chicago police, the incident occurred around 5:49 p.m. on Saturday at a jewelry store located in the 3800 block of 26th Street. Authorities say an armed offender entered the business and stole property before exiting the store.

Once outside, the suspect became involved in an altercation with two men, ages 63 and 25. Police report that the offender shot both men multiple times. The suspect then fled southbound on Springfield Avenue in a white SUV.

Both victims were transported to Mt. Sinai Hospital in critical condition, where they were later pronounced dead. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office has not yet released their identities.

On Sunday, Cook County Crime Stoppers announced a reward of up to $10,000 for information that leads to an arrest in this double homicide case.

The confrontation spilled into the street, with the altercation taking place near oncoming traffic and continuing to the corner of Springfield. The suspect is seen pulling out a firearm and shooting both victims. Police note that no one else was injured during the gunfire, which erupted in the middle of the street.

No arrests have been made in connection to the incident as the investigation remains ongoing. Chicago police are urging anyone with information to come forward.

Badfinger’s ‘No Matter What’ Didn’t Always Have That Crazy-Cool Solo

Eventually a No. 8 smash, “No Matter What” endured the kind of difficult journey that now seems sadly familiar in the Badfinger narrative. No one at the UK offices of the Beatles’ Apple Records imprint wanted to release this song, which went through several incarnations before becoming one of the very first power-pop hits.

“I listened to the tune meself recently,” stalwart Badfinger guitarist Joey Molland once told us in an exclusive Something Else! sitdown. “I like the way the band sings; it’s such a loose harmony—not perfect fifths or thirds. It’s a melody harmony. I really enjoyed that. We all had an instant sense about that, and that was something different from many bands of the day.”

Molland revealed something about the song’s memorable conclusion and how a slide solo found its way onto the final master: “We just kind of arranged it in the studio. [Late Badfinger singer-songwriter] Pete [Ham] had the song, and it was a good one. We just worked it out in a studio. Mal Evans was the producer and Geoff Emerick engineered. I think we took about an hour or two hours to do the record. We worked out those little guitar lines, and then the harmonies.”

Suddenly, a moment of last-second inspiration struck. “I originally had a different guitar solo, one that kind of slurred the strings,” Molland added. “But we were at Abbey Road mixing the song, and there was a lap steel. I got that out and started playing along with the backing track. Everybody said: ‘Why don’t we put that on there?’ That’s how it became a slide guitar solo.”

Parents worried about their children’s screentime: put your phone down

Parents who want their kids to cut back on screen time might want to start by managing their own device usage.

One effective strategy is to designate specific parameters for their devices. Setting clear limits and boundaries not only helps parents model healthy screen habits but also encourages children to follow suit.

By leading by example, parents can create a balanced environment that promotes more offline activities and family interaction.

Banning Social Media

More Schools and Governments Are Turning to Tech Bans to Keep Kids Off Screens. Do They Work?

In recent years, an increasing number of schools and government bodies have implemented technology bans in an effort to reduce screen time among children. These measures aim to encourage healthier habits, improve focus, and promote face-to-face social interactions.

But the question remains: do these tech bans actually work?

Several studies suggest that limiting access to devices during school hours can help decrease distractions and improve academic performance. However, the impact outside of school hours is less clear, as children may compensate by using screens more at home.

Moreover, some experts argue that outright bans may not address the underlying reasons for excessive screen use. Instead, they advocate for a balanced approach that includes digital education, setting clear boundaries, and encouraging alternative activities.

Ultimately, while tech bans can be a useful tool, their success depends on thoughtful implementation and support from parents, teachers, and the community. Finding effective ways to manage screen time remains a challenge as technology continues to be an integral part of children’s lives.
