Pols & Politics: Healey staffer takes ‘a digger’
You can’t plan an accident. A staffer for Gov. Maura Healey was reminded of that fact during a press conference Thursday. Gov. Maura Healey was holding the press conference outside her office, calling on President Donald Trump to release Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) funding immediately, when she was interrupted mid-speech by a loud thud followed by collective gasps. At first, there was confusion among reporters and elected officials alike, with many concluding that someone standing way in the back of the room, behind all the cameras, reporters and equipment, had fainted hitting the ground hard enough to stop the entire event. When she realized the victim may be one of her staffers, Gov. Healey rushed from the podium, dashed through the collection of TV cameras and members of the media, and to the aide of her employee with genuine concern and a look of worry on her face. It really seemed like a serious medical situation was unfolding right in front of the governor and the media who covers her. But, thankfully, it all ended with a comedic sigh of relief when the unfortunate Healey staffer cried out that she was okay and just “took a digger” as she tripped over TV equipment. The press conference went on, and a slightly shaken, and perhaps mildly embarrassed staffer was left unscathed. Brian Shortsleeve wins another endorsement Republican gubernatorial candidate Brian Shortsleeve has picked up another early endorsement in his campaign for the state’s executive office. Shortsleeve announced Thursday that he’s earned the endorsement of state Rep. and House Republican WHIP Leader Brian Frost (R-Auburn), marking the second legislative endorsement for the candidate in as many weeks. “Every day at the State House and all across the Commonwealth, I see the need for new leadership in the Corner Office,” said Frost. “The Republican field for Governor has terrific people willing to step up to make a positive difference for Massachusetts and I strongly believe Brian Shortsleeve has the best chance to win in November against Maura Healey. I find his energy to communicate his message and relate to the voters refreshing.” Shortsleeve welcomed Frost’s endorsement, highlighting his “long record of public service.” “I’m honored to receive Representative Frost’s endorsement. He has been a longtime leader in the Massachusetts House, fighting for taxpayers across the Commonwealth,” Shortsleeve said. “Our team is growing every day. Representative Frost’s support is another major boost for our campaign.” Frost joins State Senator Peter Durant (R-Worcester) and State Reps Marc Lombardo (R-Billerica) and Nick Boldyga (R-Southwick) in endorsing Shortsleeve for governor. Congressman Stephen Lynch introduces bill for nationwide affordable housing Democratic Congressman Stephen Lynch (MA-08) joined Republican Congresswoman Lisa McClain (MI-09) and members of the House Financial Services Committee on Friday to introduce legislation that would create more access to affordable housing access across the country. A bi-partisan effort, the Modular Housing Production Act would facilitate the financing and construction of affordable housing nationwide. It would require the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to review all construction lending programs administered by the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) and promptly address barriers that currently limit construction financing for modular homes-highly-affordable single and multi-family dwellings that are built in sections and then assembled on a permanent site in accordance with state and local building codes. “Amid a national housing crisis that includes a severe shortage of more than 7 million affordable homes and single-family home prices that exceed the median household income five times over, the Modular Housing Production Act will better ensure that homeownership is attainable for America’s working families,” said Rep. Lynch. “I am proud to introduce this bipartisan legislation with my colleague Rep. McClain, and I am grateful to Ranking Member Maxine Waters and Chairman French Hill of the Financial Services Committee for their continued leadership in support of housing affordability.” The Modular Housing Production Act has also been introduced by Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) as part of the bipartisan Road to Housing Act that passed the U. S. Senate in October of 2025.

Gen Z youth throw red paint at Mahesh Basnet’s vehicle
Biratnagar, Nov 23: Youth from the Gen Z movement splashed red paint on a vehicle carrying CPN-UML leader Mahesh Basnet. The incident occurred on Sunday morning, November 17, 2024, as Basnet was traveling from Biratnagar to Itahari to attend a youth union program. Basnet reported that two youths threw paint-filled balloons at his vehicle while he was en route to Sunsari from Biratnagar. Meanwhile, Gen Z leader Bhawana Raut stated that a 17-year-old had thrown red paint on Basnet’s car when he reached Biratnagar. Raut shared the incident on Facebook, writing, “As Mahesh Basnet was traveling to Biratnagar, a 17-year-old threw red paint on his vehicle. The youth’s message is clear: the hands that consider martyrs as ‘terrorists’ are stained with blood. If the state fails to curb such provocative expressions, deliver justice, or take responsibility, it will fuel today’s anger.” Raut emphasized that citizens should not be compelled to protest on the streets simply because the government fails to act responsibly. This is not the first time Basnet has faced such resistance; a few days earlier, his attempt to travel to Simara was also obstructed. People’s News Monitoring Service.

San Jose State loses quarterback Walter Eget in 25-3 loss to first-place San Diego State
San Jose State’s 25-3 loss to San Diego State on Saturday night was mostly caused by the Spartans’ self-inflicted wounds that created too big of a deficit to battle back from at Snapdragon stadium. On top of two turnovers and a pair of missed field goals, it didn’t help that the Spartans also lost starting quarterback Walker Eget in the first quarter. “It was kind of indicative of this year. The kicking game hurt us and we had big turnovers,” said Spartans coach Ken Niumatalolo, whose team has a minus-9 turnover margin and has made just 58 percent of its field goal attempts (11-for-19). Eget suffered an apparent leg injury and was later seen on the sideline using crutches after going 4-for-8 for 32 yards and an interception. While not revealing many details, Niumatalolo struck an ominous tone when asked about Eget’s injury. “I’ll just say it didn’t look good,” Niumatalolo said. “Haven’t got anything official but we’ll find out in a little bit.” Eget’s injury forced freshman quarterback Tama Amisone to take over the offense. Amisone, a 5-foot-11, 184-pound product of Hawaii’s Kapolei High, utilized his duel-threat abilities to give the Aztecs a different look. He rushed for a team-high 75 yards on 13 runs while completing 15 of 27 passes for 104 yards and an interception. The San Diego State defense, which is ranked first in the Mountain West while allowing just 12. 5 points per game, held the Spartans to 268 yards of offense and out of the end zone. The Aztecs had seven tackles for loss, including four sacks. After electing to receive the ball at the outset, the Spartans quickly put themselves in trouble when Eget was intercepted by ex-McClymonds High of Oakland standout Dwayne McDougle on the third play of the game. The first of McDougle’s two interceptions set up the Aztecs at the Spartans’ 20-yard line. They scored six plays later on Lucky Sutton’s 1-yard touchdown run. San Jose State moved into field goal range on its next offensive drive, but kicker Denis Lynch slipped while attempting a 43-yard field goal that had no chance of success. Fellow Spartans kicker Mathias Brown, kicking from the left hash, then went 1-for-2 on his field goal attempts in the first half, making a 37-yarder and missing a 39-yarder. Despite their offensive woes, the Spartans’ defense looked much-improved in interim defensive coordinator Bojay Filimoeatu’s first game since taking over for longtime coach Derrick Odum, who was fired on Monday. San Jose State’s defense limited the Aztecs offense to just 248 yards total yards and 5-for-13 on third downs. But the SJSU offense was never able to capitalize. “If we could have just mustered up something on offense, I feel like our defense could have kept their juice,” Niumatalolo said. “I thought the defense rallied and that was a testament to Bojay.” San Jose State (3-8, 2-5 MWC) has now lost three games in a row, its longest losing streak since 2023. Meanwhile, San Diego State (9-2, 6-1 MWC) put itself in position to clinch the conference’s regular-season title with a victory next Friday night against New Mexico. With Amisone in the game and without Eget, the nation’s second-leading passer with 3, 015 yards, the Spartans emphasized the run game heavily. The Spartans’ offensive philosophy change Saturday night was by necessity, though. “We got beat up front,” Niumatalolo said. “It’s hard to throw the football when the quarterback is running for his life.” SJSU running backs Steve Chavez-Soto (51 yards, 14 carries) and Viliami Teu (23 yards, five carries) combined for 74 yards on 19 attempts for a combined 133 rushing yards for SJSU. Like Eget, Amisone had to leave the game due to an undisclosed injury. While he received medical attention on the sideline, Spartans freshman quarterback Robert McDaniel, a UCLA transfer, took over for their final drive of the game. McDaniel finished the game 1-for-3 passing for minus-1 yard. San Diego State’s offense was missing its top two wide receivers as both Jordan Napier and Jacob Bostick were ruled out of the game with injuries. The Aztecs offense struggled to get the passing game going without them as quarterback Jayden Denegal went just 4-for-8 for 16 yards until the two-minute warning. But Denegal completed a 52-yard bomb to Donovan Brown to move the ball to the SJSU 4. This set up a 1-yard TD sneak by Denegal, giving SDSU an 18-3 lead. Senegal finished 8-of-16 for 81 yards passing.. SJSU finishes the season 0-6 on the road and will close its season at home next Saturday at 7: 30 p. m. against Fresno State in the annual battle for the Valley.

Celeste Rivas’ Body Was ‘Partially Frozen,’ Cause of Death Likely ‘Undetermined’
Almost three months after the body of 15-year-old Celeste Rivas was uncovered in the trunk of a Tesla registered to singer D4vd, investigators are unable to determine a cause of death. In a report from TMZ, the L. A. County Medical Examiner received the body of the teenager in terrible condition. Rivas was reportedly decapitated and her limbs were removed, although her torso remained intact. The state of the body allegedly made it difficult for investigators to determine its sex initially. Rivas’ body was also reportedly “partially frozen” and was thawing when authorities recovered her body from the car. The medical examiner is now having a difficult time determining Rivas’ cause of death, although it is being investigated as an “apparent homicide.” Even though a cause of death may be undetermined, an arrest can still be made. D4vd has reportedly been uncooperative since being named a suspect in Rivas’ death. As of now, the singer hasn’t been interviewed by police. Investigators are reportedly eyeing a second suspect. According to attorney Mark Geragos on the 2 Angry Men podcast, he alleges that digital evidence points to a second person’s involvement “before, during and after” the teenager’s death. Podcast co-host Harvey Levin echoed the claim, saying a late-night trip D4vd took to a remote area of Santa Barbara County last spring is of special interest to investigators, who think Rivas’ body was already in the car and the second suspect was with him.
