La Niña is one phase of ENSO, or El Niño Southern Oscillation — a global climate system that impacts atmospheric circulation worldwide, influencing weather patterns across the globe. La Niña is often considered the cool phase of ENSO because it occurs when waters of the tropical Pacific Ocean are cooler than average.
This cooling causes dry, sinking air over the tropical Pacific while air rises near Southeast Asia, leading to increased clouds, rainfall, and storm activity in that region.

### What Does La Niña Mean for U.S. Winter Weather?
The effects of La Niña on winter weather vary depending on where you are in the United States.
During a La Niña winter, the jet stream across North America tends to be more variable. It usually drifts farther north over the northern Pacific and sometimes farther south across the southern United States, though the exact position can fluctuate.

A 19-year-old woman and a 19-month-old child were killed Monday in a crash on Route 222 at the overpass for Kutztown Road in Richmond Township, police said.
The woman and child, both residents of Columbia, Lancaster County, were passengers in a car driven by a 27-year-old woman from Pottsville, according to Fleetwood police, who provide coverage in the township. Police confirmed that the child was in a safety seat, but it remains unknown whether the adult passenger was wearing a seat belt.
The driver and a 7-year-old boy, who was also a passenger in the car, sustained serious injuries. Authorities stated that the driver was not wearing a seat belt, and it is unclear if the boy was secured in a safety seat.
Here is the police account of the incident: The car was traveling southbound on Route 222 at approximately 10:50 a.m. Monday. As it entered a curve, the vehicle went off the road, crossed the center median, and entered the left northbound lane, where it collided with an SUV driven by a 44-year-old woman from White Marsh, Maryland. The car then went over the bridge and crashed onto the road below.
Tragically, three of the four occupants of the car were ejected from the vehicle.
Following the collision, the SUV spun and was struck by a tractor-trailer driven by a 42-year-old male. The SUV ended up partially underneath the trailer. The SUV driver was wearing a seat belt and suffered minor injuries. The truck driver was also wearing a seat belt and was not injured.
The injured parties were transported to Lehigh Valley Cedar Crest Hospital for treatment.
Police have not released the names of those involved. Northbound traffic on Route 222 was detoured for more than five hours while the investigation continued.
Authorities are still investigating the crash. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

A new pop-up is raising a big stink, celebrating the city’s signature grime with a cheeky collection of rat-themed merchandise and chaotic charm. Among the highlights is the sold-out Ratbubu: a tattooed and pierced Labubu dressed like a rodent.
The WELOVENYC “Comeback Collection” features everything from creepy Ratbubu plushies to trash-bag earbud covers ($25), “Legal Cocaine” coffee mugs ($35), and “S-t Shield” sneaker guards ($12). True New Yorkers are embracing the grit and grime of our beloved dirty city through this quirky lineup.
“It’s more about what New York is really like. The funky stuff,” Tanya De Poli, a co-creator of the WELOVENYC collection, told The Post. This curious compilation is a collaboration between numerous New York artists, which drew a long line of locals to the dingy corner of Walker and Lafayette for its Friday night opening.
“Rats are a part of that, so why not play that up?” she added. That seems about right, considering the Big Apple has even employed a “rat czar” and features a rat whisperer who offers tours of the city’s most populous rodent hangouts.
Shoppers were greeted at the teeny pop-up space at 101 Lafayette St. by a back wall covered in real rat traps spray-painted with “We Heart NYC.” Hanging there were some of the creepy-but-cute $55 Ratbubus, the store’s priciest item.
The first 300 limited-edition toys sold out on opening night, sending desperate fans back to the store Saturday morning or sliding into the team’s DMs begging for one. “They went crazy,” De Poli told The Post with a laugh as a fresh shipment arrived Monday afternoon.
Labubus are small, plush toy keychains of an elf-like monster adorned with pointed ears, a wide serrated grin, large eyes, and fuzzy costumes. These have gained popularity after being sported on the designer bags of celebrities like Rihanna, Dua Lipa, BLACKPINK’s Lisa, David Beckham, Emma Roberts, Hilary Duff, Kim Kardashian, and countless others. Some have sold for as high as $10,000.
But the new, coveted Ratbubus are much cheaper—at least for now.
Opening night also offered free, pre-designed “flash” tattoos by Chris Torres with any $50 purchase. The team was stunned by how many people waited patiently to have a rat permanently inked on their skin.
However, don’t worry if you have FOMO: Ratbubus and more rat tattoos return Tuesday night, this time with rat-shaped latte art by Moonface. Keep in mind, though, that only 100 Ratbubus will be available, so you’d better hurry.
The third and final Ratbubu drop happens Thursday, capped off with a rat costume contest so fans can twin with their new furry accessories.
“I knew it would be both memorable and iconic. One of my favourite aspects of this is the New York creatives involved who came together to make this happen,” Rick McGuire, the founder and creator behind SubwayCreatures, told Little Black Book. He partnered with the WELOVENYC team to curate the pop-up, which will run through Saturday, Nov. 1.
Among the artists popping up is Pamela Barsky, known as the “Original New York Bag Lady” for her line of scrawled-on totes. Her radical rodent bags ($35) offer phrases that include “Sometimes I think the rats run this city better than we do” and “Real New Yorkers don’t scream when they see a rat.”
“It’s the new and more honest New York,” WELOVENYC co-creator Checha Agost Carreno proclaimed to The Post, celebrating the authenticity of the project which clearly has an appreciative homegrown audience. “We didn’t want this collection to be for the tourists,” De Poli added.

### Jack Pratt’s Early Challenges and Teenage Years
Anna and Chris’ son Jack was born about two months early in August 2012 and spent time in the neonatal intensive care unit.
“The day came when I got to take Jack home,” Anna recalled at a 2021 event for the Global Alliance to Prevent Prematurity and Stillbirth, “and the first years were filled with doctor’s appointments, five surgeries, physical therapy, a lot of laughter—because Jack was and is the most adorable, cutest thing I could ever have imagined.”
Now, Jack is navigating his teenage years. However, he isn’t too old to ask his mom and dad for advice.
“I think as parents, we’re always questioning, ‘What are we doing? Are we giving good guidance? Are we raising kids with a good foundation?’” Anna explained to *E!* in March 2025.
So when Jack turns to her for help, “Those indicators make me feel like, ‘Okay, I’m on the right path here,’” she continued. “And I’m really proud of him.”

### Sibling Dynamics and Family Life
A little more than a year after Katherine and Chris tied the knot, they welcomed daughter Lyla Maria Schwarzenegger Pratt in August 2020—her middle name a nod to Katherine’s mother.
While Chris keeps much of his family life private, he shared that Jack was already acing his duties as the older sibling.
“He’s really great with her,” the *Jurassic World* star told *Entertainment Tonight* in 2021. “She always wants to pull his glasses off his face, and he’s very patient with her. He’s a great big brother.”
Fast-forward to March 2022, when Chris and Katherine grew their family with the addition of daughter Eloise Christina Schwarzenegger Pratt.
“I’m girl dad 2.0,” the *Zero Dark Thirty* actor told *E!* in June 2022. “My oldest daughter is adjusting very well to being a big sister. At first, she was kinda like, ‘So, what’s the deal with that thing? What up with that? Look at me.’ And now, she’s very much embraced the idea. She constantly wants to hold her sister, and she’s just very, very sweet. That’s the stuff that’s important. It’s the stuff that life is made of, and I feel incredibly blessed and filled with joy.”

### Christopher and Christina Schwarzenegger
Christopher Schwarzenegger, born in 1997, is Arnold and Maria’s youngest son. He has stayed largely out of the public eye and is Vice Chair of the Special Olympics Founder’s Council.
According to his bio, Christopher is also the Director of Development at production company Indus Valley Media. He previously worked at creative content agency Malka and for sports psychologist Trevor Moawad. Christopher is a University of Michigan graduate with a degree in psychology.
Christina Schwarzenegger, born in 1991, is their youngest daughter. She is an executive producer, with past credits including the 2018 documentary *Take Your Pills* and its 2022 follow-up *Take Your Pills: Xanax*.

### Joseph Baena: Arnold’s Son from an Affair
Joseph is Arnold’s son from his affair with then-housekeeper Mildred Patricia Baena. Born in 1997, Arnold didn’t learn he was Joseph’s father until much later.
“I had an affair in ’96,” *The Terminator* alum said in his 2023 docuseries *Arnold*. “In the beginning, I really didn’t know. I just started kind of feeling. The older he got, the more it became clear to me, and it was then just really a matter of how do you keep this quiet? How do you keep this a secret?”
Arnold called the affair a “major failure” in his life but noted that Joseph makes him proud.
“It was wrong what I did,” he said in the doc. “But I don’t want to make Joseph feel that he’s not welcome in this world because he’s very much welcome in this world. And I love him, and he’s turned out to be an extraordinary young man.”
Like his dad Arnold, Joseph is an actor with a passion for fitness. He also works in real estate and competed on season 31 of *Dancing With the Stars*.

Chris and Anna tied the knot in 2009 but announced their breakup after eight years of marriage. Anna (previously married to Ben Indra) hinted that her life with Chris wasn’t as picture-perfect as it seemed.

“My two other marriages were with actors, and I don’t think we did a great job of eliminating competitiveness—or at least I didn’t,” she shared on another episode of her podcast later that year.
“Being a proud person and not wanting to reveal vulnerability, any hints of competitiveness and comparison, I didn’t handle that very well, I don’t think, and I hope I’ve grown from that.”
