WNBA Finals Game 2 winners, losers: Jackie Young, A’ja Wilson shine, Mercury look deflated

WNBA Finals Game 2 Recap: Las Vegas Aces Take Commanding 2-0 Lead Over Phoenix Mercury

LAS VEGAS — The Las Vegas Aces are now just two wins away from securing their third WNBA title in four years. The No. 2 seed Aces took a commanding 2-0 lead over the No. 4 seed Phoenix Mercury in the best-of-seven 2025 WNBA Finals with a 91-78 victory in Game 2 on Sunday, Oct. 5 at Michelob Ultra Arena in Las Vegas.

Jackie Young Leads the Charge

Aces guard Jackie Young dominated the game, finishing with a game-high 32 points on 12-of-20 shooting from the field and 3-of-7 from beyond the arc. Young scored an incredible 21 points in the third quarter alone, setting a WNBA Finals record for the most points scored in a single quarter.

Interestingly, Young had been absent from practice the day before, dressed in street clothes. Head coach Becky Hammon revealed that Young was battling fatigue, but she appeared revitalized during Game 2. “Last game, she had no legs. No lift. Apparently, she went and found some legs because she was cooking today. She’s a bad, bad girl,” Hammon remarked.

A’ja Wilson’s Dominance Continues

A’ja Wilson added 28 points and 14 rebounds, proving once again why she is one of the league’s top players. Wilson scored 20 of her 28 points in the first half, becoming only the third player in WNBA Finals history to score 20 or more in one half. Along with 14 rebounds, she also contributed three assists and one steal.

Wilson just missed recording her ninth 30-plus point playoff game. Had she reached 30 alongside Young, they would have been the first duo in WNBA Finals history to each score 30 or more points in the same game. “I dropped the ball on that one. Sorry, Jack,” Wilson joked after the game.

Las Vegas Big Three Unstoppable

The Aces’ superstar trio of A’ja Wilson, Jackie Young, and Chelsea Gray were almost unstoppable throughout the game. Together, they combined for 70 of the Aces’ 91 points. Gray contributed a double-double with 10 points and 10 assists, while Wilson and Young powered the offense.

Head coach Becky Hammon praised the trio, saying, “They’re studs. That is why the expectation is so high, because of those three.”

Phoenix Mercury’s Big Three Fight Hard

On the other side, the Mercury leaned heavily on their own star trio of Alyssa Thomas (10 points, six rebounds, five assists), Satou Sabally (22 points, nine rebounds), and Kahleah Copper (23 points, three rebounds), who combined for 55 of Phoenix’s 78 points.

Alyssa Thomas Sets Assist Record

Despite the loss, Alyssa Thomas achieved a significant milestone, becoming the all-time leader in assists in WNBA postseason history by surpassing Courtney Vandersloot with 391 assists and counting. Thomas finished the game with 10 points, six rebounds, five assists, and three steals, a bright spot for the Mercury amidst their struggles.

Concerns Over Satou Sabally’s Injury

A major concern for Phoenix was an apparent ankle injury sustained by Satou Sabally at the 3:57 mark of the fourth quarter after a collision with A’ja Wilson. The foul was ruled a common foul, but Sabally did not return to the game and was visibly limping as she headed to the bench.

Postgame, coach Nate Tibbetts said Sabally was pulled as a precaution, emphasizing the team’s cautious approach moving forward. When asked how she was feeling, Sabally simply responded, “Fine.”

Phoenix’s Three-Point Shooting Struggles

The Mercury struggled mightily from beyond the arc. After Kahleah Copper opened the scoring with a 3-pointer, Phoenix missed 15 consecutive attempts and finished shooting just 17.9% (5-of-28) from three-point range. This marked their second-worst 3-point performance of the postseason.

Three-point shooting was critical to the Mercury’s two double-digit comeback wins over the Minnesota Lynx in the semifinals, but Sunday’s cold shooting left them unable to keep pace. Coach Tibbetts noted, “We tried to force it a little. We were pretty stagnant offensively.”

The Mercury are 2-1 in the playoffs when making 10 or more three-pointers, highlighting how integral outside shooting is to their success.

Coaching and Rotation Decisions Under Scrutiny

Coach Nate Tibbetts’ inexperience in the WNBA Finals appeared evident in Game 2, particularly in his rotation choices and timeouts. He relied on an eight-person rotation and did not utilize his bench depth effectively until the lead ballooned close to 20 points.

Bench players DeWanna Bonner, Sami Whitcomb, and Kathryn Westbeld combined for only eight points. Tibbetts did not call a single timeout during the Aces’ dominant 30-point third quarter, missing opportunities to disrupt their momentum.

Bench Production Lacking for the Mercury

The Mercury, who entered the postseason with the highest scoring bench in the league, have seen limited contributions from their reserves in the Finals. Their bench was outscored 41-16 in Game 1 and 16-8 in Game 2.

DeWanna Bonner was limited to four points on 1-of-5 shooting in 23 minutes, while Sami Whitcomb played 14 scoreless minutes (0-of-3 FG, 0-of-2 3PT). The lack of offensive support beyond their Big Three has hampered Phoenix’s ability to stay competitive.

Officiating Controversy Continues

Officiating once again became a controversial topic during Game 2. Several calls and missed calls frustrated players and fans alike. Phoenix star Alyssa Thomas was vocal about what she felt were missed fouls, while chants of “Refs, you suck” echoed throughout Michelob Ultra Arena, reflecting the crowd’s displeasure.

Looking Ahead

With a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series, the Las Vegas Aces are in a commanding position to capture their third WNBA title in four years. The Phoenix Mercury will need to address their shooting woes, injury concerns, and deepen their rotation if they hope to turn the series around.

Stay tuned for more updates as the Finals continue.

Coins worth over USD 1 million recovered from 1715 shipwreck

A salvage crew has recovered over 1,000 silver coins, five gold coins, and rare gold artifacts worth USD 1 million from the 1715 Spanish Treasure Fleet shipwreck off Florida’s Treasure Coast. This remarkable discovery comes more than 300 years after a hurricane sank the fleet.

The find offers a rare glimpse into colonial-era maritime history, with many coins displaying visible dates and mint marks. After conservation, these treasures will be displayed in local museums, enriching public heritage and providing valuable educational opportunities.

Unearthing more than 1,000 coins at once is exceptionally rare and hints at the possibility of further treasures lying offshore.

Metrolink from airport to Dublin granted planning permission

The Metrolink connecting Dublin Airport to the city centre has been granted planning permission. The 18.8 km MetroLink rail line, most of which will be underground, is set to run from north of Swords to Charlemont in the south of Dublin city centre, with an estimated cost of €11 billion.

An Coimisiún Pleanála decided to grant permission generally in accordance with an inspector’s recommendation, which is contained in a comprehensive 1,600-page report. In granting the railway order, it also allows for the compulsory acquisition of land required for the project.

Various Metro projects for the capital have been proposed over recent decades, but none have yet proceeded to the construction stage despite more than €100 million being spent on planning those routes. Once operational, trains are expected to run every three minutes during peak periods.

The approval was welcomed by Minister for Transport Darragh O’Brien, who plans to bring proposals to the Government for the establishment of MetroLink as a statutory delivery body responsible for overseeing the project’s construction. This is the largest single investment project outlined in the National Development Plan.

Minister O’Brien stated, “MetroLink will be transformative for the people of North Dublin and the entire country. It will provide a fast, high-capacity, high-frequency public transport route, and it will enable the construction of tens of thousands of new homes.”

Dublin Chamber also welcomed the decision, calling the metro a game-changer for the capital. However, it warned that work must start without delay to realize the benefits as soon as possible.

The Railway Order authorizes all necessary works for the construction of MetroLink. The journey time from Swords to the city centre is expected to be approximately 25 minutes.

*Note: By the end of 2023, over €150 million had been spent on MetroLink developments.*

What is Ghost of Yotei’s Watanabe Mode?

**Everything You Need to Know About Ghost of Yotei’s Watanabe Mode**

*Ghost of Yotei* offers an assortment of gameplay modes that players can enjoy, but one mode in particular—Watanabe Mode—has sparked a lot of questions. Here’s a detailed look at what Watanabe Mode is, its inspirations, and how to activate it.

### What Is Ghost of Yotei’s Watanabe Mode?

Watanabe Mode is a special gameplay option that transforms the game’s soundtrack. Instead of the more traditional musical themes you might expect, activating this mode replaces the audio with a set of tracks inspired by the iconic works of anime director Shinichiro Watanabe.

Despite its audio focus, Watanabe Mode can be easily switched on in the *Display* settings tab within the main settings menu.

### Origins of the Music in Watanabe Mode

A common point of confusion is the origin of the tracks featured in this mode. The game’s menu clarifies that the music was created **under the direction of** Shinichiro Watanabe, rather than being composed by Watanabe himself.

Throughout his career, Watanabe has collaborated with highly talented musicians and producers on acclaimed anime such as *Cowboy Bebop*, *Samurai Champloo*, *Space Dandy*, and *Terror in Resonance*. His guidance and vision have helped shape some of the most respected soundtracks in the anime world.

### The Sound and Style of Watanabe Mode

According to a user named Scannerbarkly on Cortex, the music in Watanabe Mode closely follows the stylistic cues of the popular “Lo-fi Beats” genre. This style grew from the influence of artists like Nujabes, whose work on the *Samurai Champloo* soundtrack left a lasting legacy.

Unlike the jazzy, horn-driven themes of *Cowboy Bebop*, Watanabe Mode’s music stays softer and more percussion-light. Compared to Nujabes’ distinctive Boom Bap drum beats, the mode’s tracks lean towards gentler percussion that’s characteristic of modern Lo-fi.

That being said, since the user hasn’t completed the game on Watanabe Mode, there might be hidden musical elements still undiscovered that add further depth and variety to the soundtrack.

### Combining Watanabe Mode With Other Styles

One of the coolest features of *Ghost of Yotei* is the ability to stack Watanabe Mode with other unique modes:

– **Kurosawa Mode**: Changes the game’s rendering to black and white, evoking the classic style of filmmaker Akira Kurosawa.
– **Miike Mode**: Adds more mud and blood effects while tightening the camera angle to mimic Takashi Miike’s intense cinematic style.

Stacking these modes together changes both the aesthetic and audio experience, allowing players to customize how they enjoy the game.

Whether you’re a fan of anime soundtracks or just looking to try something new in *Ghost of Yotei*, Watanabe Mode offers a compelling way to experience the game’s world through the lens of one of anime’s most influential directors. Don’t forget to explore the other modes as well for even more variety!

Kingdom Come Deliverance Remaster Is Rumored To Launch in Early 2026

A remaster or upgraded version of *Kingdom Come: Deliverance* is rumored to be in development, with a potential release window set for early 2026. This speculation has been circulating online, originating from a Reddit user, bertik11, who shared insights on the Leaks and Rumors subreddit.

According to bertik11, the first game in Warhorse Studios’ series will receive an upgrade sometime between January and April next year. The user also clarified that the studio is not currently working on a new *Lord of the Rings* game, as some rumors suggested, but is instead focused on developing their own fantasy title.

While this information comes from an unofficial source and should be taken with caution, bertik11 has a track record of accurate Kingdom Come: Deliverance-related rumors. For instance, last year, they correctly revealed the delay of *Kingdom Come: Deliverance II* to 2025 prior to the official announcement. They also predicted the medieval village design of the game’s Gamescom booth, which was later confirmed.

*Kingdom Come: Deliverance* was well-received as a solid role-playing game upon its initial release in 2018. However, a remaster could significantly enhance the experience, especially if it addresses some of the game’s most critical issues. Improvements in quality of life, such as streamlining the steep learning curve and refining the user interface, would make the game more accessible. This would benefit players who enjoyed its excellent sequel but have yet to experience the beginning of Henry of Skalitz’s story firsthand.
