Iconic TV Show Ending After 50 Years
Japan’s iconic superhero series **Super Sentai**, which inspired the popular *Power Rangers* franchise, is ending after 50 years on the air. According to local media reports, the decision to end *Super Sentai* comes as merchandise sales and event proceeds have failed to cover production costs. Broadcaster TV Asahi declined to comment on future programming when approached by MANTANWEB.
*Super Sentai* premiered in 1975 and follows five teenagers who transform into masked fighters to battle aliens. The team typically consists of three men and two women, led by a hero in a red suit—a formula familiar to *Power Rangers* fans. The remaining team members are color-coded, featuring green, black, blue, yellow, and pink fighters.
The show’s martial arts sequences and live-action action made *Super Sentai* an iconic series in Japan. It went on to inspire the U.S. *Power Rangers* series, which debuted in 1993 under the direction of Israeli-American entrepreneur Haim Saban. The *Power Rangers* franchise has since launched countless spinoffs and become a significant part of pop culture.
Reflecting on the inspiration for *Power Rangers*, Saban shared in a 2017 interview with the *Los Angeles Times*:
*“I’m laying in bed in my hotel room in Japan. At the time there was no Netflix, no cable, no nothing — just three channels playing game shows. All of a sudden, there were these five kids in spandex fighting monsters. Don’t ask me why, but I fell in love. It was so campy!”*
Motivated to reimagine the series for a U.S. audience, Saban initially found *Power Rangers* a tough concept to sell:
*“Every selling season, I would go out and offer it to the networks and would get kicked out of the room,”* he recalled. *“They told me how crazy I was.”*
It wasn’t until after Saban Entertainment’s first hit with the 1992 *X-Men* animated series that attitudes began to shift. Former Fox Kids President Margaret Loesch told Saban she was looking for something “quirky and different, with comedy and action” that would appeal to boys—paving the way for *Power Rangers*’ success.
As *Super Sentai* comes to an end, its legacy lives on through the franchise it inspired and the generations of fans who grew up watching these colorful, heroic teams battle evil.

The New Guy Speaks, Why the Ben Johnson-Ryan Poles Dynamic Works, Kevin Byard’s Quote Nails It, and Other Bears Bullets
This is #notanad, but if you’re someone with the Portillo’s app, then you should check it to see if you have a free sandwich promo. I saw mine yesterday and cashed it in. As you might expect, a free Italian beef made my day. Adding a chocolate cake shake didn’t hurt either.
—
Chicago Bears safety Kevin Byard III told ESPN about the team’s wild Week 9 win in Cincinnati:
“We’ll never apologize for winning in this league. It’s very hard to do.”
I’ve been thinking about this quote all week because it reminds me of something we discussed on a recent installment of the BN Bears Podcast. Winning is hard. And winning at the NFL level is extremely difficult. So regardless of the opponent’s issues and shortcomings, wins shouldn’t be taken for granted.
Frankly, the Bears haven’t won enough for us to be dismissive about a victory — no matter how ugly.

The Ben Johnson-Ryan Poles dynamic works for me. This quote (via the Tribune) captures the essence of the working relationship these two have as the Bears’ top decision-makers:
> “A lot of times you get into these moments and you get tunnel vision about right now: What do I need to do?” Poles said.
> “His ability to see short term and long term for us to be able to have those conversations is, as a front-office person, really awesome to have.
> “Not only him but also (defensive coordinator) Dennis Allen, too, who has been in that (head coaching) chair, to see the big picture and how we want to build this football team. They have a really good understanding of it, which is good.”
Something always felt off about the Matt Eberflus-Ryan Poles dynamic. It seemed like those two were philosophically at odds when it came to team building. For example, Poles arrived emphasizing the importance of building in the trenches and having offensive playmakers on the outside — yet the team ended up focusing on building a defense from back to front while delaying adding impact weapons on offense.
Perhaps this can be one of those “all is well that ends well” situations for the Bears now that Poles has Johnson in his corner.
The biggest takeaway from Poles’ comments (you can read more [here](#)) is that collaborative efforts are only as good as the people you’re collaborating with.

New Bears defensive lineman Joe Tryon-Shoyinka opened up about why his time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as a 2021 first-round pick didn’t work out:
> “Consistency, you know? It’s a production-based business. Look at the stats; it probably wasn’t where it needed to be, but you can’t let that stop you. You gotta keep grinding, keep working, you know there’s more ahead of you. That’s in the past.”

Transactions around the league don’t stop just because the NFL Trade Deadline is behind us. The Bears will reportedly host a visit with free-agent cornerback Asante Samuel Jr. next week. He has other visits lined up before then, so hopefully, Chicago can get him out to Halas Hall.
In his last healthy pro season, Samuel posted a Pro Football Focus grade of 73.9. That ranked as the 25th-best among 128 cornerbacks with enough snaps to qualify. I’d gladly welcome that type of production into the locker room.

Los Angeles Chargers cornerback Asante Samuel Jr. (26) was recently called for pass interference during a game against the Green Bay Packers on November 19, 2023, at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wis. The Packers defeated the Chargers 23-20.

Sun-Times reporter Jason Lieser writes that the Chicago Bears opting for a slow and steady approach when addressing roster issues makes sense.
Sometimes, as football fans, we want quick fixes and stop-gaps because we see that work for other teams. However, it’s easy to lose sight of what happens afterward. There are many cases where a short-term fix merely masks a long-term problem.
The Bears need to focus on fixing long-term issues by addressing them with potential long-term solutions. Perhaps the steady hands of Ben Johnson and Dennis Allen can help steer the franchise in that direction.
—
One of my favorite facts about this Bears season comes from Brad Biggs on Twitter/X: punter Tory Taylor has just 26 punts this season, the lowest number for the team through its first eight games in the Super Bowl era.
After watching Taylor punt 82 times last year, this is a welcome stat. That said, I would like to see Taylor’s punting numbers improve.
– His 48.5 yards per punt ranks 14th
– His 41.5 net yards ranks 18th
– Percentage of punts inside the 20 has dropped from 41.5% to 30.8%
– Touchbacks on punts have increased from 4.9% to 7.7%
We need a wider discussion about the overall disappointment in Chicago’s special teams unit in a separate post.

The passing of Dallas Cowboys defensive end Marshawn Kneeland is both surprising and saddening. Hug your loved ones whenever you get the chance.
> We are deeply saddened by the tragic news of the passing of Cowboys’ Marshawn Kneeland. Our thoughts and prayers are with his girlfriend Catalina, family, friends, and his teammates.

🙄🙄🙄 Of course, Minnesota Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy has a performatively angry alter-ego. Here’s what he said about it (via ESPN):
> “It really kind of started to show up this year, and it came about last year during IR. Just never had a full season, where you want to be out there so freaking bad, but you can’t. It was just this built-up anger that was kind of ready to just explode, and I chose to harness it instead of letting it go into a self-destructive kind of way. I kind of love feeding that wolf, because my entire life at [the University of Michigan], there was a smiley face on my hand, and [if] you smile, and you have fun, you’re going to play better and all that — which is true. But I also think there’s a lot of power that comes from that built-up anger that you can transmute into your performance.”
The Bears will get to see J.J. McCarthy (and his alter ego “Nine”) in Week 11 in Minnesota. Before that, they face the New York Giants in Week 10.
—
A nugget from Pro Football Talk’s Michael David Smith points out that Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff is on pace for a career-high in sacks taken.
Goff has been sacked 18 times in 8 games, putting him on pace for 38 sacks this season.
It’s wild to think about a quarterback taking 38 sacks being a career-high when Caleb Williams took 68 last year. Perspective is everything.
—
Wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling told reporters that Aaron Rodgers is the reason he signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers. That’s not something I’d admit publicly, but to each their own.
Valdes-Scantling and Rodgers were teammates with the Green Bay Packers from 2018-21. Since then, Valdes-Scantling has bounced around the league with stops in Kansas City, Buffalo, New Orleans, Seattle, and San Francisco before landing in Pittsburgh.
The Bears will see Valdes-Scantling, Rodgers, and the rest of the Steelers in Week 12.

Florida releases nearly $60M to cover missing, frozen voucher funds
Florida Officials Aim to Solve Voucher Program Funding Woes with Nearly $60 Million in Payments
Florida government officials hope that nearly $60 million in payments to families and schools will resolve last year’s financial troubles in the state’s education voucher program. However, lawmakers emphasized Wednesday that fundamental changes are still needed in the way the state and its scholarship funding organizations operate.
“It is my sincere hope that through the work of this subcommittee, together we can explore ways to improve the implementation and administration of our state scholarship programs to ensure that what happened in fiscal year 2024-25 is not repeated going forward,” said Rep. Jenna Persons-Mulicka, R-Fort Myers, chairperson of the House PreK-12 Budget Subcommittee.
Her panel has recently held three hearings to address concerns with the voucher program. Last year, the House rejected Senate efforts to reform the funding model now under scrutiny.
The Problems at Hand
The issues that surfaced last year centered on two main problems:
First, school districts faced a $47 million shortfall in state funding as students who claimed voucher awards attended public schools.
Second, about 22,000 voucher recipients had their accounts frozen after being identified as enrolled in public education.
“The Department [of Education] has come to us, the Legislature, the appropriators, to help resolve those issues because there were no funds left in the [Florida Education Finance Program] for fiscal 2024-25,” Persons-Mulicka told her subcommittee.
Funding Fixes Announced
According to Persons-Mulicka, the solution now appears to be in hand. The Department and scholarship funding organizations—Step Up for Students and AAA—spent months determining which students had their accounts improperly frozen.
On October 29, $16.9 million was released to these organizations for students who were owed money. As of Wednesday, almost all the funds had been distributed to about 3,700 of the initially identified 22,000 children.
“For those families and for those schools that accept scholarship funds,” she said, “I encourage you to all check your scholarship accounts as of today.”
Legislative Action for School Districts
For the affected school districts, the Legislature advanced a $47 million budget amendment on Wednesday.
“This amount will be released to school districts to make them whole for fiscal year 2024-25,” Persons-Mulicka said. She noted that the Department informed districts the money should be received next week.
Continuing Concerns and Next Steps
After announcing the funding fixes, the subcommittee engaged in a lengthy discussion about ongoing challenges. Topics included how students are identified so their vouchers can be properly assigned and issues families have raised about the reimbursement process for voucher-related expenses. These concerns have persisted for several years and have intensified as the program has expanded.

“If I play in the PL now in a top team, I’ll still score the same (goals)” – Cristiano Ronaldo makes bold claim in new Piers Morgan interview
Cristiano Ronaldo has boldly claimed that he would have scored the same number of goals in the Premier League last season as he did in the Saudi Pro League with Al-Nassr. The Portuguese superstar believes he still has what it takes to lead the attack of a top English side, despite being 40 years old.
Speaking to Piers Morgan, Ronaldo emphasized that he has been proving year after year that he can consistently score goals. The former Manchester United forward insisted that his impressive numbers are not merely a product of playing in the Saudi Pro League. He added that if he had top players supporting him on the pitch in the Premier League, he would have managed the same goal tally.
He said:
“Ah! Excuse. Yeah, excuses. It’s the most simple way. For everything, excuses, excuses, excuses. Year by year, year by year, I score more. Even in a bad year, I scored 25 goals. If I played the Premier League, now in a top team, I will score the same! If I had a good team, at 40 years old, I will score the same. I don’t need to speak because they can say whatever they want, but the numbers, they don’t lie.”
Ronaldo also addressed critics who downplay his achievements in the Saudi Pro League.
“They can’t say Saudi league. They have never been here, they never play here. They don’t know what [it is like] to run in 40 degrees [temperature]. They don’t know. And I still continue and I repeat the Saudi League, the Saudi league, it’s much, much better than Portuguese League, of course. French league is only PSG. Premier League is good, of course, is the number one.”
Last season, Cristiano Ronaldo scored 25 goals in the Saudi Pro League, in addition to a further 10 goals in the AFC Champions League and the Saudi Super Cup.
### Cristiano Ronaldo Wants More Respect for the Saudi Pro League
Ronaldo also expressed frustration about the Saudi Pro League goals being downplayed by France Football in their Ballon d’Or considerations. He said ignoring these goals is a mistake.
“It’s easier for me to score in Spain than in Saudi Arabia,” he explained.
“And they should count, even they should count, like the goals to be the top scorer, the Golden Ball [Ballon d’Or]. Why? They don’t count Saudi league. Why? Look how many top players we have in a league. Check! Ask the other players if the league is good, don’t ask me because it’s easy to ask me, I’m always saying that ‘Ah, Cristiano saying that because he play in Saudi’. No, no. I play everywhere. Everywhere. For me, it’s more easy to score in Spain than to score in Saudi.”
To put his achievements into perspective, Ronaldo scored 450 goals in 438 matches for Real Madrid. Since joining Al-Nassr in 2022, he has impressively netted 102 goals in 115 matches.
Cristiano Ronaldo continues to defy age and expectations, proving that his goal-scoring prowess remains as potent as ever.

Cowboys defensive end Marshawn Kneeland dies at 24
FRISCO, Texas — Dallas Cowboys defensive end Marshawn Kneeland tragically passed away Thursday morning, the team announced.
“It is with extreme sadness that the Dallas Cowboys share that Marshawn Kneeland tragically passed away this morning. Marshawn was a beloved teammate and member of our organization. Our thoughts and prayers regarding Marshawn are with his girlfriend Catalina and his family,” the team said in a statement. He was 24 years old.
The Cowboys have not disclosed any details regarding the cause of Kneeland’s death.
Kneeland was the Cowboys’ second-round pick out of Western Michigan in the 2024 NFL Draft, selected 56th overall. In Monday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals, he scored the Cowboys’ first touchdown by recovering a blocked punt in the end zone.
The team is currently on their bye week and is not scheduled to return to practice until Monday.
During the 2024 season, Kneeland missed two games due to injury but was credited with 15 tackles, one sack, two tackles for loss, and six quarterback hurries. As a rookie in 2023, he missed six games with a knee injury but still recorded 17 tackles, two tackles for loss, 13 quarterback pressures, a pass breakup, and a fumble recovery.
Before joining the NFL, Kneeland set records at Godwin Heights High School in Wyoming, Michigan, for tackles, sacks, and tackles for loss. During his college career at Western Michigan, he played in 38 games and amassed 27.5 tackles for loss, 13 sacks, three forced fumbles, and three pass deflections.
In 2023, Kneeland earned second-team All-Mid-American Conference honors, finishing the season with 57 tackles, 4.5 sacks, and 7.5 tackles for loss in just nine games.
Kneeland is the second Dallas Cowboys player to pass away during the season in recent years. In 2012, linebacker Jerry Brown died in a car crash in which teammate Josh Brent was driving.
The Cowboys organization, players, and fans mourn the loss of Marshawn Kneeland and extend their deepest condolences to his family and loved ones during this difficult time.

Monster Hunter Wilds offers a rich and rewarding experience but can be daunting for newcomers. This beginner guide will help new players understand how to start Monster Hunter Wilds and share essential MH Wilds tips for a smooth journey into the game’s expansive world.
What Should I Do First in Monster Hunter Wilds?
New players should begin by completing the tutorial, which introduces core mechanics such as combat basics, item usage, and exploration.
Next is character creation, allowing hunters to customize their look and select a Palico companion. Afterward, choosing a beginner-friendly weapon is crucial.
Recommended starter weapons include Dual Blades, Long Sword, Hammer, and Great Sword due to their manageable combos and straightforward mechanics. Players should practice weapon combos in the training area located at the base camp to gain confidence.
Additionally, learning the user interface and mastering quick item selection—especially for healing potions—is vital for survival and success.
How Do I Choose the Right Weapon for Beginners?
In Monster Hunter Wilds, weapons vary greatly in playstyle and complexity. New players should start with weapons that balance usability and power.
- Dual Blades: Offer speed and flurries of attacks.
- Long Sword: Provides balanced offense and defense with meter management.
- Hammer: Delivers heavy damage and stun capabilities.
- Great Sword: Excels at charged, powerful hits.
Exploring weapon tutorials in the pause menu before actual hunts helps players understand combos and special moves. Spending time practicing your chosen weapon improves hunting efficiency and monster control.
What Are Some Essential MH Wilds Tips for New Players?
- Use the SOS Flare: Regularly calling for help from NPCs or online players reduces the difficulty of challenging hunts.
- Consume Meals: Eating before quests boosts health and stamina.
- Sharpen Weapons: Maintain attack power during hunts by sharpening your weapon frequently.
- Manage Inventory: Keep healing items, traps, and bombs accessible to turn the tide in battles.

Progression involves increasing your Hunter Rank by completing quests and defeating monsters. Players collect materials from monster parts and environmental nodes to craft weapons and armor.
Equipping decorations and talismans enhances abilities and combat efficiency. Loadouts help organize gear setups for different hunt types. Improving Palico equipment is also important, as Palicos assist in combat and provide support during hunts.
How Can I Get Help or Play with Others?
The game features crossplay, so hunters can team up regardless of platform. Joining friends in cooperative play makes difficult hunts easier and more enjoyable.
Players should familiarize themselves with multiplayer etiquette and communication to optimize teamwork.
What Are Common Beginner Mistakes to Avoid?
- Avoid overwhelming yourself by trying multiple weapons at once; master one before exploring others.
- Do not neglect learning the item menu and quick usage, as ineffective healing can lead to repeated failures.
- Pay close attention to monster behaviors and environmental hazards; observing attack patterns increases your survival odds.
- Resist the urge to rush quests; adequately preparing with food buffs and proper gear significantly improves success rates.

Frequently Asked Questions
1. Can you customize your Palico companion’s appearance in Monster Hunter Wilds?
Yes, Monster Hunter Wilds offers extensive customization options for your Palico, allowing players to personalize fur patterns, colors, ear shapes, eye designs, and more. This enables hunters to create a companion that visually complements or contrasts with their own character, making the Palico a unique and personal partner during hunts.

Yes, players can edit their characters and Palico’s appearance at any time by accessing the Appearance Menu from the Base Camp Tent. This feature lets hunters revisit the character creator and adjust facial features, hair, and gear appearance without starting a new game.
3. Are there any restrictions or costs related to character customization changes in Monster Hunter Wilds?
During the beta phase, character editing was unlimited and free. However, it is anticipated that in the full release, appearance changes might require special vouchers or microtransactions. Some genetic traits or features may be locked and only editable using these vouchers, encouraging players to finalize significant choices early.
4. How does character customization in Monster Hunter Wilds affect gameplay or stats?
Character customization primarily affects visual appearance and player identity, without directly impacting gameplay or combat stats. Accessories like headgear or armor may provide gameplay benefits, but features such as body type, facial structure, or hair are cosmetic. This allows players to create characters that fit their style without worrying about performance trade-offs.
