The Climate Prediction Center has issued a La Niña Advisory, confirming that La Niña has formed in the tropical Pacific Ocean and is likely to continue through February 2026.

La Niña is one phase of ENSO, or El Niño Southern Oscillation — a global climate system that impacts atmospheric circulation worldwide, influencing weather patterns across the globe. La Niña is often considered the cool phase of ENSO because it occurs when waters of the tropical Pacific Ocean are cooler than average.

This cooling causes dry, sinking air over the tropical Pacific while air rises near Southeast Asia, leading to increased clouds, rainfall, and storm activity in that region.

The effects of La Niña on winter weather vary depending on where you are in the United States.

Woman, 19-month-old killed in Route 222 crash in Berks

A 19-year-old woman and a 19-month-old child were killed Monday in a crash on Route 222 at the overpass for Kutztown Road in Richmond Township, police said.

The woman and child, both residents of Columbia, Lancaster County, were passengers in a car driven by a 27-year-old woman from Pottsville, according to Fleetwood police, who provide coverage in the township. Police confirmed that the child was in a safety seat, but it remains unknown whether the adult passenger was wearing a seat belt.

The driver and a 7-year-old boy, who was also a passenger in the car, sustained serious injuries. Authorities stated that the driver was not wearing a seat belt, and it is unclear if the boy was secured in a safety seat.

Here is the police account of the incident: The car was traveling southbound on Route 222 at approximately 10:50 a.m. Monday. As it entered a curve, the vehicle went off the road, crossed the center median, and entered the left northbound lane, where it collided with an SUV driven by a 44-year-old woman from White Marsh, Maryland. The car then went over the bridge and crashed onto the road below.

Tragically, three of the four occupants of the car were ejected from the vehicle.

Following the collision, the SUV spun and was struck by a tractor-trailer driven by a 42-year-old male. The SUV ended up partially underneath the trailer. The SUV driver was wearing a seat belt and suffered minor injuries. The truck driver was also wearing a seat belt and was not injured.

The injured parties were transported to Lehigh Valley Cedar Crest Hospital for treatment.

Police have not released the names of those involved. Northbound traffic on Route 222 was detoured for more than five hours while the investigation continued.

46-year-old star responds to claim she got fired from AEW for trying to poach talent to WWE

A 46-year-old wrestling personality, Sarah Stock, was recently accused by a social media user of attempting to convince AEW performers to jump ship to WWE. The Canadian star has since disputed the claim.

Following this, Stock found herself embroiled in a series of quarrels with dissenting voices on social media. Scherzer doesn’t argue with Schneider, leaves World Series Game 3 with lead that bullpen wastes

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Max Scherzer didn’t argue this time.

John Schneider pointed to Toronto’s bullpen before crossing the foul line on the way to the mound, and the 41-year-old pitcher nodded in agreement as his manager arrived. Scherzer left World Series Game 3 with a 4-2 lead over the Los Angeles Dodgers after 4 1/3 innings Monday night, becoming the oldest Series starting pitcher since 45-year-old Jamie Moyer in 2008.

Still, Scherzer appeared disappointed with himself for allowing Kiké Hernández’s leadoff single in the fifth inning. After the Dodgers tied the score against reliever Mason Fluharty, Scherzer was shouting, seemingly at himself, in Toronto’s dugout.

He could get another chance to face the Dodgers, as Scherzer is lined up to start a potential Game 7 on Saturday.

A three-time Cy Young Award winner, “Mad Max” had lived up to his nickname earlier this postseason. He famously told Schneider in profane terms to leave him in Game 4 of the American League Championship Series against Seattle on Oct. 16, when the manager visited the mound with two outs and a runner on in the fifth inning.

On Monday, Scherzer struck out Randy Arozarena and recorded two outs in the sixth inning, earning his first postseason win since the 2019 World Series opener for Washington against Houston.

“I’m going to try to avoid any mound visits with Max tomorrow,” Schneider said with a smile on Sunday.

Scherzer was back at Dodger Stadium, where the eight-time All-Star spent the 2021 season with Los Angeles. He disappointed Dodgers fans then when he was scratched from NLCS Game 6 against Atlanta due to arm fatigue, and Los Angeles was eliminated.

Becoming the first pitcher to take the mound for four different teams in the World Series, Scherzer was amped up. He averaged 94.8 mph with 37 four-seam fastballs — his highest since Sept. 19, 2022, when he pitched six perfect innings for the New York Mets to beat Milwaukee for his 200th win.

Hernández, who was in a 1-for-16 slump, singled to start the fifth on a 1-2 fastball at the top of the strike zone. Scherzer retired Andy Pages on a flyout, bringing up Shohei Ohtani, who had doubled leading off the game and hit a solo home run in the third on a full-count fastball.

Schneider signaled to his bullpen before even reaching the foul line, and as he approached the mound, Scherzer nodded in understanding.

Ohtani hit an opposite-field double off Fluharty and scored on Freddie Freeman’s two-out single, tying the score 4-4.

Overall, Scherzer allowed three runs and five hits with three strikeouts and a walk. He also gave up a solo homer to Teoscar Hernández on a hanging slider to start the second inning.
