NY Post ^ | 11/22/2025 | Rich Calder Posted on by DFG The NYPD shelled out nearly $1. 1 billion on overtime last fiscal year the most of any city agency, but still nearly 14% less than the prior 12 months, The Post has learned. Cops and non-uniformed NYPD staffers pocketed a combined $1, 087, 616, 025 in OT for the fiscal year ending June 30 including a jaw-dropping 55 captains, lieutenants, detectives and other staffers who each raked in more than $100, 000 in OT beyond their actual salaries, an analysis of newly released payroll records. Leading the way was now-retired Lt. John Tancredi, who racked up 1, 256 extra hours worth $163, 681 bringing his total pay to $345,249. Lt. Christopher Cheng, a 27-year veteran, was second with $147, 758 in paid OT that’s 1, 122 extra hours worked bringing his total earnings to $340,249 with base pay and fringe benefits. Cheng, who works in Midtown’s Manhattan South precinct where cops routinely clock in extra hours monitoring protests, declined to comment through his union reps. Tancredi could not be reached. NYPD overtime spending which accounted for 18% of the agency’s $6 billion payroll wound up a whopping 59% over the $601. 9 million budgeted for fiscal 2025. Still, overall overtime dropped 13. 7% from $1, 259, 696, 367 the previous fiscal year after Mayor Eric Adams and newly appointed NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch laid out new rules in December aimed at cracking down on sky-high OT. State Sen. Mack Bernard introduces 5 bills to cut property taxes for Florida homeowners
**Florida Lawmakers Propose New Bills to Cut Rising Property Taxes**
*WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.* — Florida lawmakers are introducing new solutions to tackle the rising property taxes that continue to burden homeowners across the state. State Senator Mack Bernard, a Democrat and former Palm Beach County commissioner, has filed five bills aimed at reducing property taxes for Floridians.

“On Nov. 1, residents are going to receive their tax bills,” Bernard said. “What relief can we provide these residents?”
Bernard’s five bills, filed on October 23, focus on providing property tax breaks to first-time homesteaders, senior homeowners, and long-time Florida residents. The bills include:
– **S 270:** Homestead Property Exemption for Persons Age 65 or Older
– **S 272:** Homestead Exemption for Persons 65 and Older
– **S 274:** Homestead Property Tax Benefits for Long-term Owners
– **S 276:** Homestead Property Tax Benefits for Long-term Owners and Permanent Residents
– **S 278:** Limitation on the Assessed Value of New Homestead Property
“When we talk about affordability, people often mention insurance reform,” Bernard explained. “But with insurance reform, you still have to wait on that insurance company, and eventually you may get $100. If you’re a senior, we’re going to exempt your property taxes — you will know exactly that savings.”
In addition to senior homeowners, some bills offer tax breaks for first-time homebuyers and long-term residents. Bernard elaborated, “If you’ve been paying a homestead exemption in this state for more than 20 years, then after 20 years we’re going to cap your assessment. Then after 30 years, what we’re saying is we’re going to give you a 50 percent exemption on your property taxes.”
Meanwhile, House Republicans have introduced eight bills aimed at cutting property taxes, but face criticism from Governor Ron DeSantis, who has called those proposals “half measures.” DeSantis insists that only one plan should proceed to the 2026 ballot.
“We have more ideas that haven’t been put on paper yet that are certainly out there, more ways to find relief,” said State Representative Toby Overdorf (R-Stuart), co-chair of a select committee on property taxes.
With Republicans controlling the Capitol, Bernard expressed optimism about moving forward with discussions on how best to help homeowners: “If my bill doesn’t pass, I’m good. All I care about is the residents having relief.”
The future of Bernard’s bills and other property tax relief measures will become clearer when lawmakers convene in January for the legislative session.

**Overview of the Incident**
Pakistan Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi has accused India of orchestrating a series of attacks on the Jaffar Express train. The most recent attack occurred on Tuesday when an explosion near Sultan Kot derailed four bogies of the train, injuring seven passengers.
According to Shikarpur Deputy Commissioner Shakeel Ahmed Abro, the blast happened at 8:15 AM, and all injured individuals were promptly taken to Shikarpur Civil Hospital for treatment.
—
**Accusations Against India**
Speaking to *Dawn*, Railways Minister Abbasi claimed that the terrorists targeting the Jaffar Express are, in fact, proxies of India. He stated:
*”India is not ready to digest and bear its defeat during Operation Bunyan Al Marsoos. These cowardly acts are the pain India continues to feel from the wounds it received during the May war.”*
Abbasi further assured the public that the train service would continue as usual, emphasizing, *”We will never be afraid of such attacks.”*
—
**Responsibility Claimed by Baloch Republican Guards**
The militant group Baloch Republican Guards (BRG) has claimed responsibility for Tuesday’s attack. The group stated that the Jaffar Express was targeted specifically when “occupying Pakistani Army” personnel were on board, causing casualties among soldiers.
The BRG declared,
*”We claim responsibility for this attack and announce that such operations will continue until the independence of Balochistan is achieved.”*
—
**History of Attacks on Jaffar Express**
The Jaffar Express, which operates between Peshawar and Quetta, has been a frequent target of militant attacks, especially in recent months. The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) has often been implicated in these assaults.
The latest explosion marks the seventh attack on this train in 2025 alone. The deadliest incident occurred in March when militants hijacked the train and killed 21 passengers.
—
**Diplomatic Tensions and Denials**
Following the March hijacking, Pakistan accused terrorists of coordinating with handlers in Afghanistan and alleged that India was behind the masterminding of the attack.
However, India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal strongly rejected these claims, stating:
*”The whole world knows where the epicenter of global terrorism is.”* He urged Pakistan to reflect inward rather than blaming external forces for its internal challenges and failures.
—
**Conclusion**
The recurrent attacks on the Jaffar Express highlight ongoing tensions and security challenges in Pakistan’s railway corridors, with serious accusations and denials between the two neighboring countries underscoring the complex geopolitical dynamics of the region.
