Tee Higgins’ mom throws shade at Jake Browning with cryptic 3-word message as Bengals QB throws 3 INTs in loss to Lions

The Cincinnati Bengals had a mediocre performance against the Detroit Lions on Sunday, as quarterback Jake Browning threw three interceptions—two in the second quarter and one in the third—against three touchdowns in a 24-37 defeat. At least one person was not happy with the showing. During the game, Camilla Stewart, mother of wide receiver Tee Higgins, sent this scathing message on social media: “Quarterback me please” followed by two sadly sighing emojis.

All but one of the interceptions turned into touchdowns for the Lions, with running back David Montgomery even throwing one to backup tight end Brock Wright on a trick play. The Bengals’ defense struggled to keep the Lions’ offense in check throughout the game.

In between plays, analyst Daryl Johnston commented, “This offense has got to stop being a hindrance to this team! This offense isn’t even close to where it is with Joe Burrow at quarterback.” Play-by-play announcer Kevin Kugler added, “Without Joe Burrow there, that deep ball is absent. There’s no vertical passing game at all.”

After the third interception, Johnston voiced his concerns about the quarterback’s approach: “The recklessness from Weeks 3 and 4… it has come back again here this afternoon.”

Despite the struggles earlier in the game, all of the Bengals’ touchdowns occurred in the fourth quarter. Tee Higgins caught one of them, while Ja’Marr Chase was responsible for the other two scores.

### Bengals Urged to Trade for Quarterback After Week 5 Loss to Lions

With Joe Burrow out for the foreseeable future and Jake Browning performing poorly in three games, speculation is mounting that head coach Zac Taylor and general manager Duke Tobin should start entering trade talks to acquire a veteran quarterback, such as Kirk Cousins, Joe Flacco, or Russell Wilson.

So far, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Bengals have not begun any trade discussions, remaining confident that their backup quarterback will regain the form that helped the team finish 9-8 the last time their franchise faced a serious injury at the quarterback position.

However, in his instant analysis, USA Today’s Chris Roling urges the Bengals to act quickly: “This needed to happen a week ago. Browning looks lost and is probably suffering from the fact that defenses aren’t caught off guard by his lack of film now. The price on a quarterback trade is going up the more obviously desperate the Bengals get, but they need to acquire a Russell Wilson-caliber veteran and field a watchable team.”

The Bengals’ next game is on the road against the Green Bay Packers. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:25 p.m. ET on CBS.

Eagles’ offensive woes continue as Broncos hand Super Bowl champs their first loss

A.J. Brown skipped the cryptic social media post and went straight to the hard truth about the state of the punchless Eagles offense. “The inconsistency showed up again,” Brown said.

The Super Bowl champion Eagles got off to a 4-0 start even with an offense largely missing the blockbuster plays (well, outside of special teams) and breathtaking runs that defined the team a year ago. Under first-year coordinator Kevin Patullo, every key Eagles offensive player has seen a significant dip in production from last season.

Perhaps spurred by Brown’s social media measures and a general malaise from the fan base, the Eagles picked up the pace a bit in the first half Sunday against Denver. They scored 17 points — which seemed like a 2024 30 — in the half and stretched the lead to 17-3 headed into the fourth.

The play calling seemed easy to seal another win. Let Saquon Barkley finally get some carries to stretch the field and burn the clock. Let Jalen Hurts continue to hit Brown and DeVonta Smith for drive-extending receptions.

None of it happened.

Bo Nix and the Broncos instead found their groove and scored 18 points in the quarter to rally to a 21-17 win, sending the Eagles to their first loss in 11 games.

As Brown noted, the Eagles were inconsistent — if not downright bland — offensively over the first four games under Patullo. That sparked some hand-wringing from 1,000-yard receivers Brown and Smith.

Brown even wrote a cryptic social media post after last week’s win in Tampa Bay that seemed to hint at some unhappiness before clarifying all was good with him in Philly.

Brown and Smith combined for four catches for 34 yards last week. They blew past those totals in the first half alone against the Broncos and both were pivotal players in one of their finest drives of the season.

With the game tied 3-all, Hurts hit Smith on a 52-yard reception to the Denver 26 — the longest pass play of the season for the Eagles. Hurts targeted Brown on the next play, and the wideout drew a pass interference call that put the ball on the 2-yard line. That extra yard was the difference in a tush push vs. a run-pass option, and Hurts had enough time to connect with tight end Dallas Goedert for the touchdown.

Goedert has caught a touchdown pass in three straight games.

Hurts found another forgotten member of a once-explosive offensive unit in the third quarter when he hit a wide-open Barkley on a wheel route for a 47-yard touchdown pass and a 17-3 lead, much to the delight of cheering actor and Eagles fan Bradley Cooper.

That spark was snuffed out in a hurry in the fourth.

The misplay of the game came in the third when the Eagles still led 17-3 and Hurts appeared to overthrow an open Brown on what could have been a 61-yard touchdown.

“I have to really watch the film to be able to assess that,” Hurts said. “Obviously that’s the one that you want to hit in a big moment in the game.”

The other critical play came in the fourth when the Eagles had a late fourth-down conversion called back on an illegal shift penalty whistled against Barkley. The Eagles were instead forced to punt.

Hurts did throw for 280 yards. Smith had eight catches for 114 yards receiving, and Brown’s complaints only netted him five catches for 43 yards.

“I won’t say the word out of balance. I just think we’re searching for improvement and so given what type of team we’re built to be, we have to be able to establish the run in some regard and that could look different,” Hurts said. “It may not be what it’s been, but ultimately being able to lean on the run game is important.”

Oh yeah, the run game.

The Eagles seemed to forget they have Barkley in the backfield. The 2,005-yard rusher from a season ago was held to just 30 yards on only six — six! — carries. He has a paltry 267 yards rushing through five games.

Why did the Eagles abandon the run?

“I’m not really going to get too caught up in that,” Barkley said. “At the end of the day, whether we ran the ball enough or not, we had an opportunity to win a football game. We didn’t.”

How Ross Chastain’s Charlotte woes gave Joey Logano a lifeline in the NASCAR championship fight?

Ross Chastain endured a challenging day at the Charlotte Roval, as pit stop miscues and a chaotic finish ultimately cost him a spot in the final Round of 8. The No. 1 driver lost out to Joey Logano in a dramatic battle for the last transfer position.

Chastain started the race in 10th position, while Logano began further back in 17th. Despite the setback on the starting grid, the Trackhouse driver was fast enough to earn valuable stage points early on. However, his day took a turn for the worse after overshooting his pit exit following Stage 1. Although he managed to recover and even passed Logano during Stage 2, more trouble awaited him.

During a pit stop on lap 87, Chastain was caught speeding on pit road. He quickly double-clicked into third gear and dialed back, but it was not enough to avoid a costly pass-through penalty. Later in the race, with 10 laps remaining, Logano pitted, leaving Chastain with a 10-point lead in the standings. Chastain chose to stay out on the track, hoping to fight for his spot in the playoffs.

With just four laps to go, Logano had gained momentum, passing multiple cars and narrowing the points gap to just three. In a desperate attempt to maintain his position, Chastain made a risky move trying to pass Denny Hamlin in the final corners. Unfortunately, the maneuver resulted in a collision that wiped out both cars. Chastain scrambled across the finish line in reverse, while Logano managed to pass him by a mere 0.167 seconds, clinching the final transfer spot.

Reflecting on the incident, a teammate commented, “I saw [Chastain] going in there sideways trying to get the No. 11, and I was like, ‘Oh boy, this could be the difference right here.’ But at that point, I was just a passenger. I was too far back to do anything myself, so I was just going to go through the corner and hope for the best.”

Amidst the drama, Trackhouse teammate Shane van Gisbergen emerged victorious, securing his fifth consecutive win on road courses.

Taking full responsibility for the outcome, Chastain appeared visibly dejected after his playoff exit. “Today, we were good enough to run top five and I took us out of that. It’s all on me,” he admitted.

Chastain’s exit paves the way for defending champion Joey Logano to secure yet another shot at the title. Meanwhile, Logano’s teammate Ryan Blaney trails the playoff leader, Denny Hamlin, by just two points — setting up a thrilling remainder of the season.

Cowboys WR CeeDee Lamb drops 2-word reaction as George Pickens torches Jets’ defense in 37-22 win

George Pickens made a big splash in Week 5 with a 43-yard touchdown as the Dallas Cowboys defeated the New York Jets 37-22. Injured wide receiver CeeDee Lamb reacted to Pickens’ performance on Sunday by reposting the NFL’s highlight of Pickens along with a succinct two-word caption: “That Guy!”

The play occurred late in the third quarter. Dak Prescott threw deep, Pickens outran the Jets defender, and scored easily. It was one of many big plays that helped Dallas take control early. The Cowboys led 23-3 at halftime and maintained their advantage throughout the game.

That touchdown marked George Pickens’ fifth of the season. With that score, Pickens became the first player in Cowboys history to secure five touchdown receptions in his first five games.

### CeeDee Lamb’s Injury Status

CeeDee Lamb has been sidelined since suffering an ankle injury in Week 3 against the Chicago Bears. He missed Week 4 versus the Green Bay Packers and Week 5 versus the Jets; however, the team chose not to place him on injured reserve. If his recovery progresses well, Lamb could return by Week 7 or Week 8. Given that high-ankle sprains often take four to six weeks to heal, a return as late as Week 9 or 10 remains a possibility.

### Cowboys’ Acquisition of George Pickens

The Cowboys traded for George Pickens in March 2025, despite already having CeeDee Lamb as their WR1. At the time, Lamb was healthy and coming off a Pro Bowl season, but Dallas sought an additional top-tier receiver to stretch the field and reduce the pressure on Lamb.

### Looking Ahead

The Cowboys face the Carolina Panthers next on October 12. Fans will be keen to see how both wide receivers contribute as the season progresses.

### Jerry Jones on CeeDee Lamb’s Ankle Injury

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones addressed Lamb’s ankle injury and the play that caused it during a September 23 interview on “105.3 The Fan,” just one day after Dallas’ 31-14 loss to Chicago.

Jones expressed no regrets about the decision that led to the injury, saying, “There’s no regret. No. That goes with it. That’s been an effective play for us over the last few years. It’s one that we will take advantage of when he gets back.”

### Contract Situations

The timing of Lamb’s injury is challenging, as he is in the final year of his rookie contract. Drafted 17th overall in 2020, Lamb has established himself as the Cowboys’ top receiver and a two-time Pro Bowler. Dallas picked up his fifth-year option for 2024, making the 2025 season his last before he must sign a new deal or enter free agency. Contract negotiations are expected soon.

Meanwhile, George Pickens, acquired from Pittsburgh earlier this year, remains on his rookie deal signed in 2022, which also expires after the 2025 season. This means he too could become a free agent if the Cowboys do not extend his contract.

Stay tuned for more updates as the Cowboys navigate the rest of their season with this dynamic receiving duo.

Broncos rally from 14-point deficit to hand Eagles their first loss of the season, 21-17

Bo Nix threw an 11-yard touchdown pass and J.K. Dobbins rushed for a 2-yard score in the fourth quarter as the Denver Broncos erased a 14-point deficit to hand the Philadelphia Eagles their first loss of the season, 21-17, on Sunday.

The Broncos batted down Jalen Hurts’ last-gasp pass on the final play of the game, sending the Super Bowl champions to just their second defeat in their last 22 games.

Denver (3-2) caught a huge break during their rally when the Eagles had a late fourth-down conversion called back due to an illegal shift penalty against running back Saquon Barkley. This forced Philadelphia (4-1) to punt, and Hurts was unable to lead another comeback attempt. His final pass, on second-and-10 from the 29-yard line, was knocked down as time expired, securing the improbable Broncos victory.

Nix celebrated by waving his arms toward dozens of Broncos fans dressed in orange who had gathered near the visitors’ tunnel.

Nix threw for 242 yards — a week after throwing for a career-high 326 yards and two touchdowns against the Cincinnati Bengals — as Denver’s run-first offense and dominant defense came alive in the fourth quarter.

The Broncos totaled just 199 yards and trailed 17-3 at the end of the third quarter before Nix jump-started the offense.

Dobbins, who followed up his 101 rushing yards against Cincinnati with 79 yards on Sunday, punched in a 2-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter to make the score 17-10.

The Broncos regained possession, and Nix connected with Courtland Sutton for a 34-yard gain on the decisive drive. He then found Evan Engram over the middle for an 11-yard touchdown.

Head coach Sean Payton gambled on a two-point conversion, which paid off when Nix hit Tony Franklin, putting Denver ahead 18-17 with 7:36 remaining in the game.

The play stunned and silenced the Philadelphia crowd — a familiar gut punch coming off the Phillies’ blown three-run lead the previous night in a playoff loss to the Dodgers.

However, the resilient Eagles were far from ready to surrender their 10-game winning streak.

At fourth-and-4 from their own 49-yard line, Hurts connected with DeVonta Smith on a long reception that should have resulted in a first down — only for a penalty on Barkley for an illegal shift to wipe the play off the board. Smith finished with eight catches for 114 yards.

That marked the end of the Eagles’ late push.

Will Lutz added a 36-yard field goal with 1:11 left to extend Denver’s lead to 21-17.

Hurts threw for 280 yards, including a 2-yard touchdown pass to Dallas Goedert and a 47-yard TD pass to Barkley in the third quarter that had given the Eagles a 17-10 lead.

### Injuries

**Broncos:** Running back Tyler Badie left late in the fourth quarter with a shoulder injury.

**Eagles:** Guard Landon Dickerson suffered an ankle injury, and tight end Grant Calcaterra was sidelined with an oblique injury.

### Up Next

The Eagles have a short trip on a short week, facing the New York Giants on Thursday night.

Commanders' penalty leads to Chargers' opening touchdown

The Commanders had the Chargers stopped at the Washington 11-yard line, setting up Cameron Dicker for a field goal attempt. Dicker made the chip-shot kick; however, the Chargers’ points were taken off the board due to an offsides penalty.

Mike Sainristil was flagged for offsides, granting the Chargers a first down. This costly error proved pivotal.

Just two plays later, Justin Herbert connected with Ladd McConkey for a 2-yard touchdown, putting the Chargers ahead 7-0.

During the drive, Herbert suffered a cut on his left hand and a scraped elbow after a 41-yard run. Despite the minor injury, he completed 3 of 4 passes for 21 yards on the opening drive.
