Keegan Murray MRI reveals mild calf strain

While the Sacramento Kings continue to contemplate what their future holds, one thing is certain: Keegan Murray is an essential piece for the team’s success moving forward.

However, for the time being, the Kings will be without Murray following a calf injury he suffered during the team’s loss to the Detroit Pistons on Tuesday.

Keegan Murray underwent an MRI after the injury, and the results revealed a mild calf strain. This injury is expected to sideline him for at least one week, according to Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints.

This is a developing story, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

Fan who charged at Donovan Mitchell banned from Barclays Center indefinitely

A fan who went viral for charging at Donovan Mitchell during an Oct. 25 Cleveland Cavaliers-Brooklyn Nets matchup in Brooklyn received a harsh punishment. According to Cleveland. com’s Chris Fedor, the fan has been banned from attending any event at Barclays Center and all league-related events (NBA, WNBA, G League and 2K) that take place at an NBA arena or facility. During a stoppage in play midway through the fourth quarter of the Cavs-Nets matchup, the fan ran onto the court and approached Mitchell. He was holding his cell phone and appeared to be taking a photo or video. Barclays Center security swiftly removed him from the court and the arena. Fan who stormed court during Nets-Cavs matchup banned for life Mitchell was asked about the situation after the game. “Oh s***,” he told ClutchPoints’ Spencer Davies. “I took a few steps back and then I repositioned my feet, and I was ready to handle whatever was necessary. The kid wanted a selfie. I know he’s probably doing some jail time, but when he gets out, he’s probably got a great selfie. Sorry, I don’t think that’s a joke.” Cavaliers head coach Kenny Atkinson added that he was unsure what was happening during the “bizarre” situation. “I was kind of like, strange. You never see that in an NBA game. I think you see it in European soccer, right? When a fan runs out there. bizarre. Bizarre,” Atkinson said. The Cavaliers wound up winning the game 131-124, with Mitchell posting a game-high 35 points.

Luka Doncic Predicted to Reunite With Ex-Teammate on Lakers

Seventh-year Los Angeles Lakers guard Luka Doncic has been widely predicted to reunite with Daniel Gafford, his former teammate on the Dallas Mavericks, before the NBA trade deadline on February 5.

ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel first reported that the Lakers will pursue Gafford to bolster their depth at the center position behind Deandre Ayton. “One of the teams with strong interest in Gafford dating back to last season is the Los Angeles Lakers, sources said,” Siegel reported on November 7. “Could we see a reunion between Luka Doncic and Gafford in Los Angeles in February?”

Following this, several analysts and fans urged the Lakers to pursue Gafford, given the big man’s proven chemistry with Doncic. Gafford was a key piece of the Mavericks team that made it to the 2024 NBA Finals, averaging 9.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks through 22 postseason games a few seasons ago.

### Lakers Could Pursue Gafford

Noah Weber of The Smoking Cuban believes that Mavericks fans would be heartbroken if the Nico Harrison-led front office trades Gafford to the Lakers, especially considering the historic Luka Doncic-Anthony Davis trade less than a year ago.

“Seeing him join Doncic once again would break Mavericks fans to the core, but this has seemed like a realistic option for months due to Gafford’s dynamic with Doncic, as well as the Lakers’ team needs,” wrote Weber. “Los Angeles has gotten great production out of Deandre Ayton, but bringing in Gafford would be a major upgrade over Jaxson Hayes.”

Weber also highlighted the strong bond between Gafford and Doncic, noting that Gafford expressed interest in teaming up with Doncic on Team Slovenia. While a trade to the Lakers may be ideal for both Gafford and the Lakers, it would be a tough blow for Mavericks fans.

### Mavericks Not Interested?

This season, Gafford is averaging 8.8 points and 4.4 rebounds but has become somewhat ineffectual on a Mavericks team lacking a true floor general. Dallas currently ranks 29th in offensive efficiency, a situation unlikely to improve until Kyrie Irving returns from his ACL injury.

On paper, trading Gafford makes sense for the Mavericks, given their front-court depth with Derek Lively II, Anthony Davis, and Dwight Powell—not to mention the size advantage on the wings provided by P.J. Washington and Cooper Flagg.

However, the Mavericks reportedly may not be willing to part with Gafford. Over the weekend, NBA insider Marc Stein dismissed rumors of a potential reunion between Doncic and Gafford, citing Lively’s knee injury as a key factor.

“External interest in Gafford is sure to surface, league sources say, but the Mavericks to this point have not entertained the idea of trading him,” Stein wrote on his Substack. “How could they, with Derek Lively II, their would-be center of the future, limited to just three games played thus far due to a knee sprain?”

As the trade deadline approaches, the Lakers’ pursuit of Gafford remains a storyline to watch, with potential implications for both teams and their fanbases.

Klay Thompson a late addition to injury report, won’t play vs. Wizards

At 2-7, the Dallas Mavericks hold the worst record in the Western Conference to start the 2025-26 NBA season. As they look to snap a four-game losing streak on Saturday against the Washington Wizards, the team will be even more short-handed than usual, with Klay Thompson added late to the injury report.

Thompson was officially listed as out for the Mavericks’ game against the Wizards due to an illness, according to ClutchPoints’ official Mavericks reporter Joey Mistretta. This will mark the first game Thompson has missed this season.

In addition to Thompson’s absence, the Mavericks are already facing frontcourt challenges. Dereck Lively II is sidelined with a knee injury, while Anthony Davis and Daniel Gafford are both listed as questionable for the upcoming game against Washington.

Thompson is in his second year with Dallas after signing as a free agent last offseason. So far this season, he has appeared in nine games, averaging just about 20 minutes per game—a career low. His stats include 7.6 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game, with shooting splits of 31.6 percent from the field, 26.4 percent from three-point range, and a perfect 100 percent from the free-throw line.
