Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont to seek third term in 2026

EAST HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont filed the necessary paperwork on Friday to seek a third term in 2026. The Democrat, who has been asked by reporters for months about whether he will run again, said a formal announcement will likely be made next week.

“Yeah, Susan and I are ready to go,” he said during an event about affordable housing, referring to Lt. Gov. Susan Bysiewicz. “I didn’t want you to have to ask me any longer.”

Lamont’s candidate registration form was filed Friday afternoon with the State Elections Enforcement Commission.

Lamont, 71, a wealthy former cable entrepreneur, has developed a reputation as a fiscal moderate. He has signed a major tax cut and worked to pay down unfunded state pension liabilities. Additionally, he has supported access to abortion through safe harbor laws and advocated for greater protections for immigrants.

Notably, Lamont was one of two Democratic governors who attended President Donald Trump’s inauguration. He has carefully chosen which issues to criticize the Republican on, a tactic that has drawn complaints from more liberal Democrats in Connecticut. Some critics have also taken issue with his budgeting approach, deeming it too conservative.

No Connecticut governor has served three consecutive terms in modern times. Former Republican Gov. John G. Rowland was elected to a third consecutive term in November 2002 but resigned in 2004 amid a corruption scandal.

Lotus House unveils The Children’s Village to provide crucial services for kids in Overtown

MIAMI (WSVN) – Lotus House has unveiled The Children’s Village, a new facility designed to provide several vital resources for children and families in Miami’s Overtown neighborhood.

Located on Northeast 14th Terrace, directly across from Lotus House’s 500-bed shelter, The Children’s Village is home to a preschool, after-school care programs, intervention services, and healthcare support. This vibrant center brings together multiple local youth organizations under one roof, united in their mission to support kids and families in the community.

“During the pandemic, we realized that our kids needed more than what we were offering them, so we came up with the idea of building a playground. Shortly after, we realized that they needed more than that. So we invited all of the providers who offer amazing services in Overtown to join us in one roof,” said Lotus House Executive Director Isabella Dell’Oca.

Among the programs offered at The Children’s Village is Girl Power Rocks, which focuses on empowering young girls through educational support, confidence-building, and safety awareness.

“We provide them with different skills to avoid dangers. For instance, trafficking is a significant concern here in Miami, so we address these issues with the girls and provide them with tools like conflict resolution and guidance on how to be better citizens in the community,” explained Rashada Campbell, Director of Operations for Girl Power Rocks.

The Children’s Village is open and available to any youth residing in Overtown, aiming to create a safe and supportive environment for the neighborhood’s children and families.

Demi Lovato’s newest album is about having fun and being carefree ahead of her next tour

Demi Lovato is diving back into the spotlight, and this time, she’s keeping things light. After dropping her newest album, she’s hitting the road, bringing a fresh, carefree vibe to her music and performances. Recently, Deco got a taste of Demi’s delicious life, and it’s clear she’s keeping it cute, catchy, and totally fun.

Demi Lovato is done taking things so seriously. In her latest album, *It’s Not That Deep*, she’s leaving all the drama at home. “It’s a simple, party fun song and it’s sexy and it’s like, that’s what it is,” Demi shares. “I think so much of my past was, like, I want to try and write, you know, deeply emotional songs about my past. And with this album, I was like, ‘I’m in a place where I’m having fun. I want my lyrics to reflect that too.’”

For Demi, combining heartbreak with a breakthrough remains important, as shown in songs like “Here All Night.” She explains, “It’s about someone that’s really struggling through a breakup but they’re going to dance on the dance floor until her heart gets out.”

A big part of her personal journey has been tying the knot with the love of her life. Demi says, “I found the love of my life and we’re married, and he helps me feel confident. He helps me, you know, live in the moment. And I think it’s a combination of everything coming together, right?”

Maturity plays a significant role in her new outlook. “I think there’s something about your 30s too, where you just take a second and you are able to let go of some of the pressures that you once put on yourself maybe in your 20s,” Demi reflects. “Now I’m 33 and I’m not taking myself so seriously because I realize there’s room for everyone.”

Going on tour with this album feels like the most festive time of the year for Demi. “It’s like waking up on Christmas morning when you’re 6 years old,” she says excitedly. “I was like, ‘Wow, I’m really sure of this album and I’m really sure of this era,’ but so many people are too, and that’s really rewarding. I can’t wait to bring the show on the road.”

Fans can catch Demi Lovato live next year, with a tour stop in Orlando on April 10. Get ready for a fun, feel-good experience with one of pop’s brightest stars!

Shooting on Greek island of Crete leaves 2 dead and at least 6 injured

Two people have died and at least six others were injured in a shooting on the Greek island of Crete, authorities reported. The incident occurred on Saturday and is believed to have been sparked by a long-standing family feud.

The shooting took place shortly after 11 a.m. in the village of Vorizia, located 52 kilometers (32 miles) south of Heraklion, Crete’s largest city. According to police statements, the two victims—a 39-year-old man and a 56-year-old woman—died as a result of the shootout.

Six other individuals were injured and transported to local hospitals with varying degrees of severity, local emergency services EKAB confirmed. Among the injured are two men who remain hospitalized under guard while their involvement in the incident is being investigated by authorities.

Local media reports indicate that the shooting is the latest episode in a long-running feud between two local families. This follows an explosion on Friday night at a house under construction in the area, which caused property damage but no injuries.

The shooting led to a significant deployment of security forces and emergency response teams to the small mountain village. Authorities have opened a preliminary investigation into the events. Further updates are expected as the investigation continues.
