The Last Frontier season 1 episode 6 continues the conspiratorial action thriller set in the Alaskan wilderness. While one enemy is still running free, another one, called the “Angel of Death,” threatens Fairbanks, as the town is already engulfed in darkness.
The series has been laden with more questions than answers since the plane crash in the premiere episode. In episode 6, as Frank pieces together evidence, one of the key conspiracies is confirmed—the plane crash was an act of sabotage designed to kill Havlock and every inmate aboard. No one was supposed to survive.
The co-pilot’s testimony and Sidney’s confession reveal that there is a much bigger betrayal at play. Despite his flaws, Havlock may be running around just searching for answers.

Was the Plane Crash Premeditated?
Much of the series so far has focused on the aftermath of the plane crash in the premiere episode, especially how it allowed dangerous inmates to break out and wreak havoc in the town. However, episode 6 delves deeper into the cause of the crash, revealing that it was no accident.
The Last Frontier season 1 episode 6 confirms the crash was premeditated—a targeted assassination attempt on Havlock (aka Levi). Everyone on the plane was deemed expendable.
The co-pilot, who survived both the crash and the Angel of Death’s clutches, confirms they lost control of the plane while it was still ascending. Everything was corrupted, and they had no control over the aircraft.
Moreover, the hard drive Hutch retrieved in episode 5 contains the malware used to disable the plane’s systems. The episode also confirms that the courier Havlock plans to meet in Fairbanks—who was believed to be delivering Archive 6—is actually a killer sent to assassinate him.
Sidney’s Connection to the Plane Crash
While Sidney is not directly connected to the JPAT aircraft crash, something she created was used to bring down the plane.
In her confession during episode 6, Sidney reveals she once developed malware capable of simulating a random air disaster. Originally, it was designed for an untraceable hit on a Chinese diplomat.
She told Frank that the project was shelved, only for the malware to be revived and used in the sabotage of Havlock’s plane. What frustrates her most is that the CIA’s original plan appears to be killing Havlock while framing her for the incident.
This possibility remains a threat, especially now that the FBI has possession of the drive containing the malware. With the co-pilot as a surviving witness, they have the evidence needed to pin the entire scheme on Sidney.
One interesting moment in episode 6 is Havlock’s lingering uncertainty about both the crash and Sidney’s involvement. An altercation with the courier reveals Havlock questioning how much Sidney knows about the crash, or even if she knows anything at all.
Who is the ‘Angel of Death’?
Episode 6 introduces the “Angel of Death,” aka Dr. William Wigg. His nickname fittingly reflects his sinister nature—a gifted doctor but also a sociopath and serial killer.
It’s revealed that he poisoned 36 patients and coworkers. Though his original motive remains unclear, his unsettling storyline in episode 6 centers around using the co-pilot as a bargaining chip to secure a safe deposit box.
Inside the box are Polaroids of his victims, including the son of the bank manager who delivers the deposit box—his first victim.
While Dr. Wigg tries to placate the woman with false apologies, it turns out she knows exactly who he is and what he did to her son. She came prepared and ultimately shoots him dead before boarding the plane.
