**Chrome Will Now Auto-Mute Notifications from Websites You Often Ignore**

Google is rolling out a new feature in its Chrome browser that automatically mutes notifications from websites users frequently ignore. This move aims to combat “notification fatigue” by reducing the number of unnecessary pop-up alerts.
The update applies to both Android and desktop versions of Chrome and expands on the capabilities of Chrome’s existing Safety Check tool, which helps users manage sensitive permissions such as camera and location access.
### How the New Feature Works
The enhancement extends the Safety Check tool to cover website notifications. It automatically revokes notification permissions from sites that send excessive alerts but receive little to no user interaction. This functionality is similar to an existing Android feature that allows users to unsubscribe from notifications with a single tap.
However, it’s important to note that this new feature does not affect web apps installed on the device; it specifically targets websites with high notification volumes and low engagement rates.
### Tackling Notification Overload
Google highlights that fewer than 1% of all web notifications in Chrome receive any form of user interaction, meaning the vast majority of alerts go ignored. During testing, the company observed a significant decrease in notification overload, while the overall number of notification clicks remained largely unchanged. Interestingly, websites that send fewer notifications are seeing an increase in user engagement.
### User Control and Customization
Users retain full control over this feature. Chrome users can disable the automatic revocation of notification permissions at any time. Additionally, they can restore notifications from specific websites by revisiting those sites or by adjusting permissions through the Safety Check menu in Chrome.
### Availability
While Google has not announced an exact release date, this feature is expected to be included in an upcoming Chrome browser update available to all users.
This update marks a positive step towards creating a less intrusive and more user-friendly browsing experience by minimizing unwanted interruptions while still allowing users to stay informed through notifications they care about.

Trump also expressed uncertainty about his upcoming meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, which was initially scheduled to address these trade issues. However, he later clarified that the meeting had not been canceled and that he still planned to attend.

Trump’s announcement and comments triggered a sharp reaction in financial markets. The S&P 500 experienced a significant decline, closing down 2.7%, marking its biggest drop since April.

Moreover, Beijing introduced new port fees on ships connected to the US, including those owned or operated by American firms, further escalating trade frictions.

Since May, the US and China have maintained a fragile trade detente after agreeing to remove triple-digit tariffs on each other’s goods. Nonetheless, tensions remain high, with US tariffs on Chinese products still carrying an additional 30% levy compared to earlier this year.
Negotiations have continued, covering issues such as TikTok, agricultural exports, and the trade of rare earth materials. Initially, a high-level meeting between President Trump and President Xi was expected to take place in South Korea this month. However, recent developments make this meeting appear unlikely.
