Bhopal News: CMRS Team To Inspect Metro Stations Next Week

**Bhopal Metro Rail Safety Team to Inspect Priority Corridor Stations Next Week**

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) team is scheduled to arrive in Bhopal next week to inspect the eight metro stations along the priority corridor. This follows their earlier visit on September 25, when they inspected the metro train and depot facilities.

The upcoming inspection of the metro stations is a crucial step before the CMRS grants sanction for the commercial operation of the metro service. The government aims to roll out the metro train within this month itself.

Sources from the Metro Rail Corporation have indicated that the CMRS team could arrive any day next week. Ahead of the team’s visit, the Managing Director of Metro Rail Corporation, S. Krishna Chaitanya, carried out a thorough inspection on Tuesday to review the preparations.

During his visit, Krishna Chaitanya evaluated various facilities including the metro railway stations’ entry and exit gates, escalators, control room, fire safety measures, track conditions, power supply systems, security arrangements, and elevators.

Typically, the CMRS team conducts two rounds of inspections covering the metro depots, trains, and stations before granting permission for the public rollout.

Insiders from the Metro Rail Corporation revealed that some work is still ongoing at three out of the eight metro stations. Authorities are working diligently to complete the remaining tasks ahead of the CMRS team’s arrival.

Your asthma inhaler might not be good for the environment

**Your Asthma Inhaler Might Not Be Good for the Environment**
*By Dwaipayan Roy | Oct 07, 2025, 08:03 pm*

A recent study has revealed that inhalers used to treat asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) significantly contribute to greenhouse gas emissions. Conducted by scientists from the University of California and Harvard University, the research found that these devices produce annual emissions equivalent to those of over half a million petrol-powered cars in the US alone.

The study’s findings were published in the *Journal of the American Medical Association* and highlight an often-overlooked environmental impact of common medical treatments.

### Metered-Dose Inhalers: The Biggest Culprit

The research examined global warming pollution from three types of inhalers between 2014 and 2024. It found that metered-dose inhalers (MDIs), which use hydrofluoroalkane (HFA) propellants to deliver medication, are the most damaging. These devices accounted for a staggering 98% of inhaler-related emissions over the decade.

In total, US patients with commercial insurance and government programs such as Medicaid and Medicare produced an estimated 24.9 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent during this period—highlighting a significant environmental footprint.

### Eco-Friendly Alternatives Exist but Are Not Widely Used

Unlike metered-dose inhalers, dry powder inhalers (DPIs) and soft mist inhalers do not use propellants. DPIs rely on a patient’s breath to release medicine, while soft mist inhalers convert liquid medication into a fine spray. Both alternatives have a much lower environmental impact.

William Feldman, lead author from UCLA, emphasized that only a small portion of patients actually require metered-dose inhalers for their treatment. Despite this, the adoption of these greener alternatives remains limited.

### Barriers to Adoption: Insurance and Market Challenges

Feldman pointed out that most patients could switch to dry powder or soft mist inhalers. However, insurance coverage and market barriers have slowed their uptake in the United States.

For instance, a dry-powder version of albuterol—the most commonly used inhaler drug—is available but typically not covered by insurance. Additionally, budesonide-formoterol, a drug widely sold in dry powder form across Europe, is not presently available in the US market.

### Calling for Policy and Pricing Reform

Feldman stressed that this research is not about blaming patients but rather a call for policy reform to make lower-emission inhalers more accessible. A related commentary in *JAMA* by Alexander Rabin of the University of Michigan echoed this sentiment, urging insurers and policymakers to ensure that environmentally friendly inhalers are affordable and accessible to everyone.

As awareness grows about the environmental impact of medical devices, policy changes and improved insurance coverage could play critical roles in reducing the carbon footprint of asthma and COPD treatments while maintaining patient care quality.

`Bombs its own people, sanctions genocidal mass rape`: India slams Pak at UNSC

“Every year, we are unfortunately fated to listen to the delusional tirade of Pakistan against my country, especially on Jammu and Kashmir, the Indian territory they covet,” the Indian envoy said.

“A country that bombs its own people, conducts systematic genocide, can only attempt to distract the world with misdirection and hyperbole,” Harish added. He further stated that the world sees through Pakistan’s propaganda.

On March 25, 1971, the Pakistani army launched a brutal crackdown involving widespread civilian killings throughout East Pakistan (now Bangladesh), code-named ‘Operation Searchlight’.

Harish addressed the council meeting chaired by Russia, asserting that India’s record on the “Women, Peace and Security” agenda is unblemished and unscathed.

India’s strong response in the council came after Pakistan raised the issue of Jammu and Kashmir during its statement. The Pakistani delegate remarked, “To exclude Kashmiri women from the Women, Peace and Security agenda erases its legitimacy and undermines its universality.”

In his remarks, Harish emphasized that India remains unwavering in its commitment to the “Women, Peace and Security” agenda. He expressed India’s readiness to share its expertise with partners, particularly those in the Global South, fostering collective solutions to shared challenges.

Highlighting India’s consistent contribution to UN peacekeeping, Harish described it as an expression of the country’s commitment to global peace. “What distinguishes India’s peacekeeping legacy is not merely the scale of our contribution, but our pioneering recognition of women as indispensable agents of peace,” he said.

As early as the 1960s, India deployed women medical officers to the Congo, marking one of the earliest instances of women serving in UN peacekeeping operations. Harish noted that this was not merely a symbolic gesture but a practical acknowledgment that women’s perspectives, skills, and presence are essential to effective peacekeeping.

In February 2025, India hosted the International Conference on Women Peacekeepers from the Global South, bringing together women peacekeepers from 35 nations. The two-day gathering examined evolving challenges faced by women in peacekeeping operations, from addressing sexual exploitation and abuse to leveraging technology for enhanced effectiveness.

Harish emphasized that the conference was not merely a forum for discussion but a platform for developing actionable strategies to increase women’s participation and their impact in future peace missions.
