Joel Quenneville returns to South Florida with a win and applause

SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) — Joel Quenneville returned to South Florida on Tuesday to applause, a welcome message, and a win.

Quenneville last coached a game in Sunrise four years ago as head coach of the Florida Panthers before he resigned and was banned from the NHL for his handling of a sexual assault scandal involving his 2010 Stanley Cup-winning Chicago Blackhawks squad.

“I’m appreciative,” Quenneville said after Tuesday’s game against the Panthers, which his Anaheim Ducks won in a shootout, 3-2. “My time here was great. It was short, but I’ve been watching their success over the last three and four years.”

Quenneville, along with Blackhawks executives Stan Bowman and Al MacIsaac, was banned from the league for nearly three years after an independent investigation concluded that the team mishandled allegations raised by former player Kyle Beach against video coach Brad Aldrich during the team’s Stanley Cup run in 2010. The trio was reinstated last July.

Bowman became the Edmonton Oilers’ general manager three weeks later, while Quenneville — the second-winningest coach in NHL history — was hired by the Anaheim Ducks in May.

Since the incident, Quenneville has spoken openly about his personal growth, noting after his hiring that he has worked to educate himself on abuse.

“I own my mistakes,” Quenneville said in May. “While I believed wholeheartedly the issue was handled by management, I take full responsibility for not following up and asking more questions. That’s entirely on me. Over nearly four years, I’ve taken time to reflect, to listen to experts and advocates, and educate myself on the realities of abuse, trauma and how to be a better leader. I hope others can learn from my inaction.”

Quenneville has spent parts of 25 NHL seasons behind the benches of St. Louis, Colorado, Chicago, and Florida. He coached the Blackhawks for more than 10 years and led them to championships in 2010, 2013, and 2015.

The Blackhawks fired Quenneville in November 2018 after a 6-6-3 start, and he joined the Panthers for the 2019-20 season.

Earlier this month, Quenneville returned to the United Center in Chicago to a mixed reaction of boos and cheers. The reaction to his return to Sunrise appeared more subdued.

The public address announcer at Amerant Bank Arena called Quenneville’s name as a “welcome back” message flashed on the jumbotron in the first period. The crowd responded with brief applause and cheers.

Quenneville has expressed admiration for the Panthers’ success as back-to-back Stanley Cup champions over the past few years.

“I remember when I came here, Vinny [Panthers owner Vincent Viola] told me, ‘We’re going to win the Cup. We’re going to win multiple cups,’” Quenneville said. “So he was right.”

“I just believe he beats him” – Jonathan Haggerty makes early pick for Rukiya Anpo vs. Marat Grigorian winner at ONE 173

Reigning ONE bantamweight kickboxing world champion Jonathan Haggerty has weighed in on one of the most intriguing kickboxing matchups at ONE 173, set to take place inside Tokyo’s Ariake Arena on Sunday, Nov. 16.

On the same card where Haggerty will challenge defending king Nabil Anane for the ONE bantamweight Muay Thai world title, veteran Armenian striker Marat Grigorian faces promotional newcomer Rukiya Anpo in a featherweight kickboxing bout that has captured attention due to the heated trash talk between the two fighters.

When the South China Morning Post (SCMP) caught up with the 28-year-old Englishman, known as ‘The General,’ he shared his thoughts on the clash and revealed which fighter he believes will emerge victorious.

“Marat is a beast. I really like his style. I like it the way he is. I believe he beats him for sure. I say for sure I just believe he beats him,” Jonathan Haggerty said.

Watch his full interview with SCMP below:

The Knowlesy Academy and Team Underground martial artist’s endorsement of the 34-year-old Grigorian carries significant weight, given his own experience competing at the elite level. Grigorian, a three-time Glory kickboxing world champion and former two-time ONE featherweight kickboxing world title challenger, brings years of experience facing the sport’s best.

Meanwhile, the 29-year-old Anpo, a former K-1 champion, makes his promotional debut with bold predictions and supreme confidence. However, Haggerty believes that experience will trump youth and bravado when these two lock horns on Nov. 16.

### Jonathan Haggerty Ready for His Own High-Stakes Challenge at ONE 173

While Jonathan Haggerty offered his prediction for the Grigorian vs. Anpo matchup, his focus remains locked on his own massive challenge against Nabil Anane. ‘The General’ aims to reclaim two-sport world champion status by capturing the ONE bantamweight Muay Thai world title after previously holding the promotion’s bantamweight kickboxing and Muay Thai crowns simultaneously.

A victory would validate his return to Muay Thai and prove he remains one of the most versatile strikers in combat sports. However, the 21-year-old Anane has gone unbeaten in his past eight fights under the promotional spotlight and remains a force to be reckoned with, even for someone of Haggerty’s quality.

Wood scores 2 including winner in return from injury, lifting Blue Jackets to 4-3 win over Sabres

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — Miles Wood scored twice, including the overtime winner 2:53 into the extra period, rallying the Columbus Blue Jackets to a 4-3 victory over the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday night.

Zach Werenski and Yegor Chinakhov each recorded a goal and an assist as the Blue Jackets extended their winning streak on the road to four games. Jet Greaves made 35 saves, highlighted by a crucial stop on Jiri Kulich’s breakaway just 40 seconds into overtime, using his right pad.

Wood forced overtime by tipping in Chinakhov’s shot with 6:05 remaining in regulation. His two-goal performance was especially notable as it came during his return after missing five games due to a frightening injury to his left eye. Wood was injured while chasing a loose puck when Devils defenseman Dougie Hamilton’s stick rode up beneath Wood’s visor and struck his eye.

For Buffalo, Josh Doan, Ryan McLeod, and Josh Dunne—who scored his first NHL career goal—found the back of the net. The Sabres have improved to 4-1-2 in their past seven games after an 0-3 start. Goaltender Alex Lyon finished with 35 saves.

The game-winning goal originated from Isac Lundestrom, who set up the decisive play by reversing up the boards in the Buffalo zone and sending a cross-ice pass to a wide-open Werenski in the left circle. Werenski then threaded a pass to Wood, who redirected the puck over Lyon to secure the win.

Columbus overcame two separate one-goal deficits in the game. Their current four-game road winning streak marks their longest since a five-game spree from January 20 to February 12, 2022.

Up next:
– Blue Jackets: Host the Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday night.
– Sabres: Play at Boston on Thursday night.

Bruins score three in second period to beat Islanders

BOSTON — David Pastrnak had a goal and an assist to help the Boston Bruins rally for a 5-2 victory over the New York Islanders on Tuesday night.

Pastrnak, Elias Lindholm, and Mikey Eyssimont scored during Boston’s second-period rally after the Bruins managed just four shots on goal in the opening period. Morgan Geekie added a power-play goal in the third, and Fraser Minten sealed the game with an empty-netter as Boston rebounded from a 7-2 loss at Ottawa on Monday night.

Charlie McAvoy contributed two assists, while Joonas Korpisalo made 33 saves for Boston, which earned its second win since starting the season 3-0.

For the Islanders, Bo Horvat had a goal and an assist. Kyle Palmieri also scored, and Ilya Sorokin finished with 17 saves. New York lost in regulation for the first time since dropping to 0-3 on October 13.

Horvat gave the Islanders an early lead, scoring just 1:08 into the first period for his sixth goal in six games. He then assisted on Palmieri’s one-timer at 4:52 of the first. The Islanders outshot the Bruins 10-4 in the opening period—a margin that could have been even wider if the Bruins hadn’t blocked seven shots.

The second period belonged to the Bruins. The Islanders handed Boston opportunities with a pair of early penalties, the second of which led to Lindholm’s power-play goal at 3:57. Pastrnak tied the game at 6:49, and Boston took its first lead just 59 seconds later when Eyssimont tipped a shot past Sorokin.

Up next for the Islanders: a visit to the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday.

Assen 2025: Showdown from the Cathedral from Rate iMotorbike Reports

A great ninth Dash win of the year came just how out of the fresh #93 with what has been the most difficult weekend of their 12 months yet. Ducati are best in the constructor standings, having at least one rider in the constructor tape with an excellent podium in every race.

Only two riders not operating Ducati have claimed victories: Johann Zarco on the Honda in France and Marco Bezzecchi on the Aprilia in the UK. Marc Marquez is the current points leader with 270 points, while his brother Alex sits second with 230 points. The pair finished first and second at both the Aragon Grand Prix and the Italian Grand Prix.

It’s the second part of an exciting double-header following Mugello, with the Championship fight heating up. There are many questions ahead of Round 10 as Marc Marquez (Ducati Lenovo Team) looks to extend his margin on one of Francesco Bagnaia’s (Ducati Lenovo Team) favourite tracks. Meanwhile, Alex Marquez (BK8 Gresini Racing) remains in contention as other contenders look to spring surprises.

Despite pressure from Bezzecchi, the six-time MotoGP champion managed his tyres and pace perfectly until grabbing the checkered flag. Points are awarded to the top fifteen finishers of the main race and to the top nine in the sprint race.

The 2025 FIM MotoGP World Championship is the largest family of the 77th Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) Road Racing World Championship seasons — the highest level of motorcycle road racing.

**Marathonbet Free Bet Offer: Qualifying 2**

Due to delays last week, the new behavior start session took place recently. Joan Mir crashed at the first turns, with Raul Fernandez also leaving the track after contact with Franco Morbidelli and retiring shortly after. Pedro Acosta failed to improve his time and was given a 3-second post-race penalty, dropping him to ninth.

Marc Marquez surged to fourth on the grid to win the 2025 Dutch MotoGP Race at a damp, overcast Assen. The 45-second class started nearly an hour late due to a major cleanup following an oil spill during the wet Moto3 sessions.

Thankfully, track conditions improved enough for slick tyres by the time the premier class green lights went on. The MotoGP Assen race is one of the most revered events on the MotoGP World Championship calendar, having run every year since 1949 except for the 2020 break during the pandemic.

Sun and rain are common in the Netherlands, making weather variable and often unpredictable; nevertheless, Marc Marquez dominated FP3 by finishing second fastest.

**Race Highlights: Assen GP**

Marc Marquez narrowly defeated Marco Bezzecchi at Assen to claim his third consecutive Grand Prix win and his sixth victory of the year, further cementing his position as the 2025 MotoGP title favourite. The race saw multiple accidents, delays, and red flags—Joan Mir and Aleix Espargaro fought hard to maximise their laps amid challenging conditions.

A time penalty was given to Franco Morbidelli for cutting the final chicane, though he did not lose additional positions. Marc Marquez was just a few laps away from his milestone 68th top-class victory in a generally clean Moto2™ race.

Four riders retired during the session, including Fabio Quartararo, Pedro Acosta, and Enea Bastianini. Meanwhile, Marc Marquez may have injured his arm after a crash at the start.

The brothers finished closely, only 0.351 seconds apart, joined on the podium by Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia Racing), who took his first MotoGP podium of the year. Fabio Di Giannantonio finished a remarkable fourth for VR46, overtaking Francesco Bagnaia in the final stages.

**Team and Rider Updates**

After seven straight wins, Repsol Honda Team arrives at Assen in top form. The Dutch TT is the longest-serving race on the MotoGP calendar and is traditionally held on the last Sunday in June, attracting large crowds.

Following the unpredictable weather at Assen, Repsol Honda riders Marc Marquez and Dani Pedrosa petitioned for their inclusion in Q2 after Friday’s FP3 session showed mixed wet-dry conditions on the track.

Marc Marquez sustained injuries on Friday: a left shoulder wound from a slide at Ramshoek and a high-speed crash at Ruskenhoek. Despite this, he remained a strong title contender. Meanwhile, Italian rider Di Giannantonio edged a second ahead of Bezzecchi in P4 on Friday, with Bagnaia settling for P5.

**Qualifying and Race Strategy**

Francesco “Pecco” Bagnaia, last race’s winner, will start 16th on the grid. Early laps saw poleman Fabio Quartararo fall out of the top ten, with Alex Marquez falling behind Bezzecchi and Pedro Acosta. Acosta was fastest by lap nine, although Vinales started the sprint from tenth.

Despite starting last, Marquez quickly asserted leadership, skillfully overtaking rivals in difficult Assen conditions. Once in front, he maintained a comfortable lead, securing a significant victory milestone in what is shaping up to be a stellar season with eight wins.

This victory mirrors Marquez’s comeback in the 2019 German GP, where he overcame a less advantageous starting position to claim the checkered flag.

**Sprint Races and Championship Outlook**

The introduction of sprint races has added excitement and complexity to the championship. Moto2™ Q2 at the Motul Grand Prix of the Netherlands saw Franco Morbidelli temporarily regain fourth place behind the race leader Bagnaia and the Marquez brothers.

Sadly, Alex Marquez suffered a left arm fracture after colliding with Pedro Acosta but remains determined to continue his strong championship pursuit. Marc Marquez leads the rider standings by 40 points over Alex, with Bagnaia third, 110 points behind the leader.

**TT Assen Course and History**

The TT Circuit Assen is renowned for its fast corners and rapid direction changes, making it a favourite among riders. Its unstable weather conditions often add unpredictability to race outcomes.

There are few repeat winners at Assen aside from the dominant Valentino Rossi era in the early 2000s. However, this year, Marc Marquez left his rivals in the dust, winning both the Sprint and the Grand Prix.

Round 10 of the 2025 MotoGP season takes place on the last weekend of summer, with Assen continuing to hold a special place in MotoGP history as “The Cathedral” of motorcycle racing. It has hosted the Dutch GP every year since 1949 except 2020 and is known for its spectacular racing and vibrant atmosphere.

**Stay Updated**

For all pre-race analysis, qualifying results, live lap times, and the latest news, stay tuned to VAVEL’s comprehensive MotoGP coverage.

With the championship tightly contested, the return of Assen’s unpredictable weather, and the continued rivalry among the Marquez brothers, this round promises thrilling action and further twists in the 2025 MotoGP World Championship. Don’t miss it!

The End Is Near! MSNBC Announces When It Will Go Dark, Turn into MSNOW

**MSNBC to Rebrand as MS NOW on November 15, 2025**

*By Curtis Houck | October 28, 2025, 6:34 PM*

Cue the Sinatra music! On Monday, MSNBC’s parent company, Versant—the conglomerate overseeing seven cable news channels including Comcast—announced that the network formerly known as MSNBC will rebrand as **MS NOW** starting Saturday, November 15, 2025. This move brings an end to the network that originally launched on July 15, 1996.

Along with ditching the much-lampooned name and the cheaply designed logo—a waving flag with two stripes set against a blue or white background—Versant revealed the marketing campaign behind MS NOW, themed **“Same Mission. New Name.”**

A press release touted MS NOW as an acronym for “My Source for News, Opinion, and the World,” which it claims “defines the news organization’s enduring mission: to cover breaking news as it happens, provide best-in-class opinion journalism rooted in fact, and report on unfolding events around the world.”

The release also boasted that the network has spent “over nine months” preparing for the name change, as well as “developing and building an ambitious newsgathering model hyper-focused on the needs of the MS NOW audience.” This preparation comes amid the reality that NBC correspondents will no longer be able to cross-pollinate coverage and support the network.

Citing its Washington D.C. bureau, which already “produces original, evidence-based reporting and in-depth investigative journalism,” along with a “multi-year deal” with British outlet Sky News to enhance foreign reporting, Versant highlighted an October 6th internal email outlining the network’s ten core values.

Some of these values, as noted and critiqued by observers, include:
– **Integrity** — “upholding the highest ethical standards.”
– **Opinion** — having “opinion journalists and contributors operate based on accurate, reported facts.”
– **Fairness** — to “report the news with an open mind.”

The rebranding effort has drawn mixed reactions, with some critics mocking the new name and questioning whether this change will be enough to save a network many see as struggling to maintain its identity.

Remembering the many visits with Thailand’s Queen Mother Sirikit

**Farewell to Thailand’s Gem**

The longer you live, the more friends you have to say goodbye to.

A lifetime ago, in Bangkok’s Chitralada Palace garden, I met Her Stunningly Gorgeous Majesty Queen Sirikit of Thailand. She had a tiny, perfect figure, ebony black hair, and a face like marble. Swathed in Thai silk, she was the embodiment of elegance. Over the years, we stayed friends.

She left us last week.

We shared many visits—sometimes I was there, sometimes she was here. Once, as we sat in the sweltering sun, she told me in her excellent accented English, “Due to my country’s blessed weather, I have no lines in my face. It is because I perspire so often. This is what keeps my skin smooth.”

Over the years, we did things for one another. She wished for Bloomingdale’s to open a Thai department to sell her country’s handicrafts and exquisite Thai silk. I would conduct interviews there, and she’d invite me to her parties here.

We first met in 1961. That’s a long friendship.

During my time on TV news, she granted me an exclusive one-on-one sit-down interview. I specifically wore a white Thai silk suit to honor her. The interview took place in a suite at the Plaza Hotel, where the Thai contingent was staying. In walks Her Majesty, flanked by more than just the Thai army—and what was she wearing? A stunning white Thai silk suit. She certainly wouldn’t change clothes, and asking me to go home to change would have taken too long.

I wanted to shoot myself—but that wouldn’t have been necessary because her staff would have done it for me.

Another memorable moment was a dinner she planned in my honor in upcountry Chiang Mai. I had just stepped off the plane, my hair a mess like it had been “ripped off a camel’s behind.” Wearing a big floppy hat to protect myself from the sun, I was chauffeured directly to the banquet without stopping at a hotel to freshen up.

Seated next to Her Majesty at a tightly packed table, nerves got the better of me—I dropped a utensil. Although seventy-five servants would have eagerly retrieved it, I foolishly bent down to pick it up myself. In doing so, my wide straw hat brim scraped Her Majesty’s face. She paid it no mind, but I could swear half the soldiers with bayonets in place were ready to shoot me.

Among her gifts to me were a handmade, woven dark straw basket evening bag, lined with Thai silk, featuring an 18-karat gold handle and trimmed with diamonds. I still have it. Another gift was a brooch—a 24-karat gold beetle with actual beetle wings laminated on its sides. When I asked why, she said, “Because beetles are earth’s longest lasting creatures.” I still treasure that as well.

What did she want from me? A small drugstore packet of Kleenex.

My last time with her was during Thailand’s massive tsunami disaster. People were washed away, homes destroyed, lives lost. My friend Geoffrey Weill—one of the world’s most successful travel experts—and I had two longtime close South African friends, young teenage sisters, who were missing. We were frantic.

I flew with Geoffrey to Thailand. Queen Sirikit assigned us a high-ranking air force officer who commandeered an army plane. We flew to Phuket, where the Israeli army, experienced in handling death, was in charge of the recovery of bodies and severed parts. One of our friends had a South African map tattooed on her side, which helped identify her.

After that, Her Majesty was not well. She had stepped down. Her once gorgeous figure had taken on weight. She was no longer receiving visitors. I did not see her again—but I will love her always.

Speaking of international matters, a related anecdote comes to mind from Saudi Arabia. Once, a violent sandstorm disrupted all wire services, and suddenly this sign appeared:
**“Until further notice, please limit calls to four wives.”**

Mike Macdonald Tips 275-Pounder to Fix Seahawks’ Run Game

Mike Macdonald knows the Seattle Seahawks need a boost in their running game, and he is referring to beefy fullback Robbie Ouzts, who is expected to play against the Washington Commanders in Week 9. Ouzts has missed the last four games due to an ankle injury, but Macdonald believes the blocking back’s return is “great. It wasn’t a long practice, but got some good reps in,” according to The Tacoma News Tribune’s Gregg Bell.

Having Ouzts back in the lineup will lead to a shift in how the Seahawks deploy personnel in the running game. As Macdonald pointed out, “We’ve majored in 12 personnel, 13 personnel. We’ll see how the game plan shakes out, but Robbie provides more two-back flexibility than probably we’ve had.” These new, heavier formations could unlock the Seahawks’ so far unfulfilled potential when running the ball.

### Seahawks Need Changes in the Running Game

Despite the breakaway talents of Kenneth Walker III and the rugged dependability of Zach Charbonnet, the Seahawks’ running game is not intimidating opponents. They rank eighth in the league in rushing attempts but are 30th in yards-per-carry average (3.7), according to Seahawks.com Senior Reporter John Boyle.

These numbers are not what one would expect given offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak’s expertise with the famed zone-stretch system. However, that staple play hasn’t been yielding much for Walker and company. “Teams are dedicated to stopping it — the Seahawks face loaded boxes at the highest rate in the league,” notes Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic.

In response, Kubiak is attempting to diversify the run game by incorporating more counter, gap, and straight-ahead power runs. These plays were used with mixed results during the 27-19 win over the Houston Texans in Week 7. As Dugar explained, “The pivot would then be to gash teams between the tackles, which the Seahawks attempted with a little bit of success against the Texans. But is that the best use of the personnel? They have a light, athletic offensive line, which is why a scheme based on running off the ball was supposed to pop.”

Another challenge is that the tight ends have not been physical enough to hold their blocks consistently, meaning the Seahawks need to get bigger along the line of scrimmage. This is where Robbie Ouzts comes in.

### Robbie Ouzts’ Return Boosts One-Dimensional Offense

Though only a rookie and a 2025 NFL draft fifth-round pick, Ouzts has already made a positive impact. For example, in Week 2 against the Pittsburgh Steelers, he helped Kenneth Walker rush for 105 yards by delivering a series of crushing blocks. NFL Network’s Brian Baldinger highlighted some of his best blocks, showcasing the difference a fullback the size of a defensive lineman can make.

Adding Ouzts provides the Seahawks with more power and physicality up front, putting some much-needed “oomph” into their rushing concepts. This could be the key to moving the ball more effectively on the ground and making the run game a more threatening part of Seattle’s offense.
