Trump-Zelensky meeting was ‘bad’ – Axios

Friday’s White House meeting between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky was described as “tense,” Axios reported, citing sources familiar with the discussions.

According to two individuals briefed on the meeting, Trump informed Zelensky that he does not plan to provide long-range Tomahawk missiles “at least for now.” The talks, which lasted around two and a half hours, were characterized by one source as “not easy” and by another as “bad.”

At times, the conversation “got a bit emotional,” Axios noted. While “nobody shouted,” one source said that Trump was “tough” throughout the session. The meeting ended abruptly when Trump reportedly stated, “I think we’re done. Let’s see what happens next week,” possibly alluding to upcoming Russia-US talks.

Afterward, speaking to reporters, Zelensky declined to comment on the issue of Tomahawk missile deliveries. He only mentioned that the US “does not want escalation.”

Petro llama a Trump “grosero e ignorante” en una escalada de tensiones verbales

El presidente de Colombia, Gustavo Petro, respondió este domingo al expresidente de Estados Unidos, Donald Trump, llamándolo “grosero e ignorante con Colombia” en una publicación realizada en la plataforma X.

La reacción de Petro se dio luego de un mensaje previo de Trump en Truth Social, donde el exmandatario acusó a Petro de ser “un líder del narcotráfico ilegal que fomenta fuertemente la producción masiva de drogas”. Además, Trump anunció que Estados Unidos dejaría de hacer “pagos y subsidios a gran escala” a Colombia, país que, según él, ha fracasado en gran medida en su lucha contra los carteles de droga que producen narcóticos ilegales y los envían a territorio estadounidense.

“El propósito de esta producción de drogas es la venta masiva de producto en Estados Unidos, lo que causa muerte, destrucción y caos”, escribió Trump en su publicación en Truth Social. En letras mayúsculas agregó:
**“A PARTIR DE HOY, ESTOS PAGOS, O CUALQUIER OTRA FORMA DE PAGO O SUBSIDIO, YA NO SE REALIZARÁN”.**

No quedó claro de inmediato a qué pagos específicos se refería Trump, pero Estados Unidos es, con diferencia, el mayor financiador de la seguridad en Colombia, aportando miles de millones de dólares cada año.

En respuesta, Petro afirmó:
“Señor Trump, jamás Colombia ha sido grosera con EEUU, al contrario, ha querido mucho su cultura. Pero usted es grosero e ignorante con Colombia”.
“Yo no hago bussines como usted, yo soy socialista, creo en la ayuda y el bien común y en los bienes comunes de la humanidad, el mayor de todos: la vida, puesta en peligro por su petróleo”, añadió el mandatario colombiano.
“Si yo no soy negociante, pues mucho menos narcotraficante, en mi corazón no hay codicias”, concluyó.

Por su parte, la cancillería de Colombia rechazó este domingo la “amenaza directa contra la soberanía nacional” del presidente de Estados Unidos y anunció que acudirá a “todas las instancias internacionales” para defenderla.

El Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores emitió un comunicado en el que calificó las declaraciones de Trump como “ofensivas” hacia el presidente Petro y como “una amenaza directa a la soberanía nacional al plantear una intervención ilegal en territorio colombiano”.

Las relaciones entre Washington y Bogotá se han deteriorado en los últimos meses. En septiembre, Estados Unidos revocó la visa de Petro después de que él llamara a soldados estadounidenses a desobedecer las órdenes de Trump durante una manifestación a favor de Palestina en Nueva York.
