Charles M. Bland, 72, who claimed to children he was a professor, doctor and scientist, among other things, before molesting them, has been denied parole. Jenna Wade, coordinator of the Victim / Witness Division of the Trumbull County Prosecutor’s Office, said that Bland will not be eligible for parole again until October 2035. On May 8, 2013, Bland was given a 10-year-to-life prison sentence by former Trumbull County Common Pleas Court Judge W. Wyatt McKay after Bland pleaded guilty to four counts of rape, two counts of gross sexual imposition, 25 counts of pandering obscenity involving minors and one count of illegal use of minor in nudity-oriented material or performance. Bland’s victims were as young as 6, according to the prosecutor’s office. While living at Suburban Trailer Park in Trumbull County, Bland claimed to be a professor, a philosopher, a doctor, scientist and astronomer. He went so far as to print counterfeit degrees and diplomas, which he hung in his run-down trailer. He concocted these lies to gain the trust of his neighbors and gain access to their children. Under these fake credentials, Bland lured unsuspecting neighborhood children into his trailer under the guise of “tutoring” them. Once inside, Bland would use his age and size to violate these youngsters, forcing them to engage in various sex acts, including forced touching, forced oral sex, and digital and vaginal penetration. A search of Bland’s trailer found a nude image Bland personally took of a 6-year-old girl. Assistant Prosecutor Gabriel Wildman, who wrote the parole board in opposition to Bland’s release, said he was pleased with the decision to keep him in prison. Bland will remain in Belmont Correction Institution, with his next parole hearing scheduled for August 2035, according to the prison’s website.

Hoskinson Affirms Cardano ISO 20022 Support as Deadline Nears
Charles Hoskinson Reaffirms Cardano’s Support for ISO 20022 Ahead of SWIFT Migration Deadline
Charles Hoskinson, co-founder of Cardano (ADA), has reaffirmed the blockchain network’s support for the ISO 20022 global banking standard. This announcement aligns Cardano with other major digital assets such as XRP, HBAR, and ALGO, as the financial industry approaches a critical deadline. The statement comes just 13 days before SWIFT’s hard migration deadline on November 22, marking a significant moment for global banking and payment systems.
### The Significance of ISO 20022 and SWIFT’s Migration
ISO 20022 is a unified data messaging standard designed to modernize and harmonize financial communications worldwide. It replaces older, text-based formats with structured, metadata-rich messages, improving cross-border wire transfers, securities settlements, and institutional payment messaging. The new standard enables faster, clearer, and more transparent communication between banks, payment processors, and digital asset networks.
The deadline set by the Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication (SWIFT) on November 22 marks the end of the “co-existence period,” during which the old MT and new MX message formats operated side-by-side. After this date, all transactions must comply with CBPR+ (Cross-Border Payments and Reporting Plus) guidelines.
### Industry Challenges and Delays
The global rollout of ISO 20022 has faced several delays. Originally scheduled for November 2021, the migration was postponed multiple times over five years due to challenges in upgrading legacy infrastructure. SWIFT’s recent confirmation of a hard deadline emphasizes that no further extensions will be granted.
Despite this firm timeline, readiness varies widely across regions. A June report from Central Banking revealed that fewer than half of the 49 surveyed central banks were fully compliant with the standard, while about 6% had only partial upgrades. Europe leads adoption under the MiCA regulatory framework, with systems such as TARGET2 and EBA Clearing completing their transition in March 2023, aligning with SWIFT’s CBPR+ guidelines that cover payment initiation, clearing, and cash management.
### Cardano’s Position Among ISO 20022-Compliant Blockchains
Hoskinson described ISO 20022 as “necessary to open banking and combining the TradFi and DeFi worlds.” He emphasized Cardano’s role, stating that ADA “is glad to be holding the line with XRP, HBAR, ALGO, and others.”
According to Hoskinson, certain blockchain networks are poised to benefit from the growing importance of ISO 20022 compliance. These include XRP, XLM, ADA, HBAR, ALGO, QNT, and IOTA. These assets are recognized for their utility in cross-border payments, institutional settlements, and enhancing interoperability between traditional finance and decentralized systems.
### Bridging Traditional Finance and DeFi
The alignment of Cardano and other compliant blockchains with ISO 20022 positions them as crucial “bridge” assets in the evolving global financial ecosystem. Their ability to support automated, data-rich financial communication aligns perfectly with the goals of the new banking standard, offering opportunities as the industry moves toward a more integrated and efficient payment landscape.

As the November 22 deadline approaches, Cardano’s reaffirmation of ISO 20022 support signals its commitment to fostering innovation and interoperability in both traditional and decentralized finance sectors. This pivotal moment highlights the growing importance of blockchain networks in shaping the future of global financial communications.

Thunder get massive praise from Charles Barkley, Kenny Smith
Charles Barkley and Kenny Smith had high praises for Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the Oklahoma City Thunder as the 2025-26 NBA season kicked off. The Thunder are on a quest to repeat as NBA champions, having secured the title last season. Despite starting the campaign without Jalen Williams due to injury, the team held down the fort with a strong performance against the Houston Rockets in their season opener.
Barkley and Smith shared their thoughts on the Thunder ahead of the team’s matchup against the Indiana Pacers during a segment of *Inside the NBA* on Thursday. Barkley praised the squad for its impressive depth. “That’s why this team is a favorite. They’re the deepest team in the NBA. They’re two-deep, they’re pretty much three-deep in their positions. They got it all, so they are heavy favorites. But I’m telling you, man, they just plug and play, because as long as they got [Gilgeous-Alexander] and [Chet Holmgren], they got to be,” Barkley said.
Kenny Smith echoed this sentiment, highlighting the team’s balance even without its star players. “Let’s say Shai has to do something for a month, they’re still a playoff team. They would be a top eight team in the West without Shai Gilgeous-Alexander—that’s how strong this team is,” Smith replied.
### How Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the Thunder Played in the First Half vs. Pacers
The praise from Charles Barkley and Kenny Smith speaks volumes about the championship-level talent on the Thunder roster. Currently, Oklahoma City leads Indiana 54-47 at halftime in their first rematch since Game 7 of the 2025 NBA Finals.
Indiana is missing star guard Tyrese Haliburton, who will miss the entire season while rehabbing a torn Achilles. This absence has presented a challenge for the Pacers’ offense, which showed as Oklahoma City outscored them 32-22 in the second quarter.
Only two players on the Thunder have scored in double figures so far. Gilgeous-Alexander is leading the charge with 21 points, three rebounds, two assists, two steals, and a block. He’s been efficient, shooting 5-of-8 from the field and a near-perfect 11-of-12 from the free-throw line. Ajay Mitchell is next with 10 points and two rebounds, while Chet Holmgren has contributed five points and two steals.
### What’s Next for the Thunder?
Following this matchup, the Thunder will continue their road trip. They are set to face the Atlanta Hawks on October 25 at 7:30 p.m. ET. With their depth and star talent, Oklahoma City looks poised to make another strong run this season.
