7 competitive shows to watch if you’ve been enjoying Physical: Asia

**Physical: Asia** is the newest installment in the Physical franchise, turning individual competition into a battle for national pride. From the creators of *Physical: 100*, the series gathers top athletes like Manny Pacquiao, Robert Whittaker, Superbon, Yushin Okami, and Kim Dong-hyun, each leading a team of champions, Olympians, and fan favorites. Together, they compete for ₩1 billion (around $700,000) and the title of Asia’s strongest nation.

The 12-episode season pits teams from Korea, Japan, Thailand, the Philippines, Indonesia, Mongolia, Turkey, and Australia against each other in brutal challenges such as shipwreck survival and king of the hill battles. One mistake can eliminate an entire country, making every match a test of strategy and unity.

Filmed on a massive soundstage in Korea, the set spans five soccer fields and features a half-sunken ship, a haunted village, and a replica of Gyeongbokgung Palace. Every design detail, from traditional motifs to the Korean-inspired score, celebrates Asian heritage while pushing athletes to their physical and emotional limits.

If you enjoyed *Physical: Asia* for its themes of teamwork and challenges, here are seven other competitive shows that capture a similar spirit.

*Disclaimer: The following list is ranked in no particular order, and the opinions expressed belong solely to the author.*

### 1) Survivor

*Survivor* is the American version of the global reality competition franchise based on Sweden’s *Expedition Robinson*. Premiering in 2000 and hosted by Jeff Probst, the show strands contestants in remote locations where they must find food, build shelter, and compete in physical and mental challenges for rewards and immunity.

Contestants are voted out until only a few remain, and a final jury selects the “Sole Survivor,” who wins $1 million. Fans who enjoy *Physical: Asia* for its mix of strategy and team loyalty will find *Survivor* equally compelling, as contestants rely on wit and alliances to outlast opponents in extreme environments.

### 2) Ink Master

*Ink Master* is an American reality competition that began on Spike in 2012. Tattoo artists compete in creative challenges judged by industry professionals, with one eliminated each episode. Winners earn the title of Ink Master and a cash prize that increased from $100,000 to $250,000 in later seasons.

Produced by Original Media, the show streams on Paramount+ and airs 24/7 on Pluto TV, spawning several spin-offs like *Ink Master: Redemption* and *Grudge Match*. Like *Physical: Asia*, *Ink Master* features elite competitors pushed to their limits, where creativity and precision decide who earns ultimate bragging rights.

### 3) American Ninja Warrior

*American Ninja Warrior* (ANW) is a U.S. sports entertainment and reality competition series based on Japan’s *Sasuke*. Contestants tackle obstacle courses across various cities, progressing through Qualifiers, Semifinals, and a four-stage Finals in Las Vegas known as Mount Midoriyama.

The competitor who completes all stages the fastest wins $1 million, while top performers may earn $100,000. Hosted by Matt Iseman and Akbar Gbaja-Biamila, the show has crowned only three grand champions: Isaac Caldiero, Drew Drechsel, and Vance Walker.

If viewers loved *Physical: Asia* for its thrilling obstacle challenges and displays of athletic excellence, *American Ninja Warrior* delivers similar action as competitors battle for victory through strength and focus.

### 4) The Challenge: USA

*The Challenge: USA* is a spin-off of the long-running reality series *The Challenge*, airing from July 6, 2022, to October 19, 2023. The show features contestants from popular CBS reality shows including *Big Brother*, *Survivor*, *Love Island*, and *The Amazing Race*, competing in intense physical and mental challenges for cash prizes and bragging rights.

*The Challenge: USA* shares *Physical: Asia’s* spirit of teamwork and endurance, uniting reality stars in intense physical and mental tests where only the strongest alliances and strategies prevail.

### 5) Ultimate Beastmaster

*Ultimate Beastmaster* is an American reality sports competition that premiered on Netflix on February 24, 2017. Unlike other obstacle course shows, it features international contestants and localized versions with hosts from six participating countries, whose reactions appear across all editions.

In the show, contestants race through an intense obstacle course called “The Beast.” Winners from each episode advance to compete for the title of Ultimate Beastmaster. The series expanded in season 3 to include nine countries, using a tournament-style format with semifinals and finals.

Winners include Felipe Camargo of Brazil (season 1), Haibin Qu of China (season 2), and Corbin Mackin of the United Kingdom (season 3).

Much like *Physical: Asia*, *Ultimate Beastmaster* celebrates international athleticism, featuring top contenders from multiple nations competing on colossal obstacle courses for global glory.

### 6) The Titan Games

*The Titan Games* is an American sports competition series that aired on NBC from January 3, 2019, to August 10, 2020. Hosted by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, it features everyday athletes taking on extreme physical and mental challenges inspired by Greek mythology and Johnson’s own workouts.

Produced by A. Smith & Co. and Universal Television Alternative Studio, contestants compete for the title of Titan and a $100,000 prize under the tagline, “Titans aren’t born, they’re made.”

Viewers drawn to *Physical: Asia’s* emphasis on power and perseverance will appreciate *The Titan Games*, where everyday heroes and pro athletes face mythic challenges designed to test both body and mind.

### 7) American Gladiators

*American Gladiators* is a U.S. competition series (1989–1996) where amateur athletes faced off against each other and the show’s “Gladiators” in physical challenges. Created by Johnny C. Ferraro and Dann Carr in 1982, it grew from a local event into a global franchise, inspiring international versions and a kids’ spinoff (*Gladiators 2000*).

*American Gladiators* paved the way for shows like *Physical: Asia*, combining fierce athletic competition and the pursuit of honor in the ultimate test of endurance.

Interested viewers can watch *Physical: Asia* on Netflix.

David Arquette on Kevin Williamson’s Directorial Role in Scream 7

**Scream Star David Arquette Shares His Thoughts on Kevin Williamson’s Return as Director for Scream 7**

Scream star David Arquette has recently shared his thoughts on the exciting developments for the upcoming *Scream 7*, including Kevin Williamson transitioning from writer to director.

**Back to Its Roots**

*Scream 7* is set to bring the franchise back to its roots while reuniting some familiar faces, even those presumed dead. The film is directed by Kevin Williamson, the original *Scream* writer, who co-wrote the script with *Scream VI* scribe Guy Busick. The story picks up two years after the events of *Scream VI*, focusing on a new Ghostface and centering around Sidney Prescott for the first time since *Scream 4*.

**Plot and Setting**

According to the official synopsis, Sidney has sought a quieter life in a small town with her family when a new Ghostface emerges, targeting her and her teenage daughter. This setup allows the series to return to a more intimate, suspense-driven tone, while still incorporating the signature meta twists and brutal moments that fans love.

**Familiar Faces and New Characters**

The cast features a mix of beloved legacy characters and fresh faces. Neve Campbell returns as Sidney Prescott, after sitting out *Scream VI*, along with Courteney Cox as Gale Weathers. Roger L. Jackson reprises his role as the voice of Ghostface.

The film also brings back franchise favorites like Matthew Lillard and Scott Foley—whose characters were killed off in earlier entries—as well as newer survivors such as Jasmin Savoy Brown and Mason Gooding.

New cast members include Isabel May, McKenna Grace, Celeste O’Connor, Sam Rechner, Anna Camp, Joel McHale, Michelle Randolph, Jimmy Tatro, Asa Germann, Ethan Embry, Tim Simons, and Mark Consuelos.

**The Surprising Return of Dewey**

Perhaps the most surprising element is the return of David Arquette as Dewey Riley. Dewey’s character died in *Scream* (2022) in what was one of the franchise’s most brutal departures. His appearance in *Scream 7* has sparked theories ranging from flashbacks and dream sequences to AI or voice-changer technology—leaving fans speculating about how he might fit into the story.

**Arquette’s Excitement to Return**

Arquette explained his decision to return in an interview with Men’s Journal. He said, “I was really excited to work with Kevin Williamson again. I mean, he’s the writer of *Scream*, and he’s directing this one. It’s a really great 360 moment. I can’t really say too much about the movie, but I was really excited to work with Kevin. We’ve had such a history, and he wrote the original and created this entire world, and he just knows it better than anyone.”

**Release and Teasers**

*Scream 7* is scheduled to hit theaters on February 27, 2026. The first trailer teases a new Ghostface stalking Sidney and her daughter. While the full context of Dewey’s involvement remains a mystery—though fans might catch his voice in the trailer—the film promises a full-circle return to Woodsboro-style terror, with Williamson at the helm and many key players making a comeback.

From Dive Bar to Hotel: Cambria Suites Replacing Route 1 Motels in Woodbridge

A New Hotel to Rise on Route 1 South in Avenel, Woodbridge

A new five-story hotel is set to rise on Route 1 South in the Avenel section of Woodbridge, marking the end of an era for the old City Hotel, Star Hotel, and the iconic dive bar, The Spot.

### When Route 1 Was the Beating Heart of New Jersey Road Trips

There was a time when motels ruled New Jersey’s highways. After World War II, families hit the road for vacations in record numbers, and motels popped up everywhere—especially along Route 1 and other roads leading to the Jersey Shore. These motels were affordable, convenient, and embodied the spirit of the 1950s and ’60s road-tripping family.

### From Family Vacations to Faded Signs: The Decline of Route 1 Motels

But times changed. With the completion of the interstate highway system, travelers began bypassing local roads like Route 1. Flying became more popular, and the once-thriving motels started to fade away. While some classic motels survived—some even enjoying a retro revival in places like Wildwood and Cape May—most met a common fate: they became “cheap motels,” eventually closed, and were demolished.

### City Hotel and The Spot Make Way for Cambria Suites

Demolition is now underway for the City and Star Hotels, as well as The Spot, which has been closed for about 15 years. Rising in their place will be a Cambria Suites hotel at 939-943 Route 1 South—a five-story, 104-room building that will also feature a restaurant on the first floor.

### Avenel’s Route 1 Rebirth: From Blight to Boom

Woodbridge Mayor John McCormac has described the project as a long-overdue improvement. He called the old motels “one of the ugliest sites on Route 1,” adding that the township has worked hard to clean up blighted properties in the area.

“Route 1 in Avenel has experienced a rebirth,” McCormac said. “New stores and businesses have opened along Route 1, Avenel Street, and Rahway Avenue ever since the Station Village apartment complex took over one of the worst contaminated sites in the township at General Dynamics.”

### The End of an Era, A Fresh Start for Woodbridge

It’s the end of an era for the old Route 1 motels, but like much of Woodbridge, this stretch of highway is getting a fresh start and a brighter future.

Joe Soucheray: Seems Mayor-to-be Kaohly Her brings regard for detail and private success. Pinch me!

At this year’s Nativity County Fair, a fundraising bonanza that could teach the city of St. Paul a thing or two about money, Kaohly Her was an affable attendee. She appeared unannounced, engaged, and forthright. One fellow told me he could have been knocked over with a feather, as she not only answered his questions but did so without cloying staff or factotums trying to hustle her away for a merry-go-round ride or something similarly safer than talking to an actual voter.

Her is not one of her pronouns—that’s her name.

State Rep. Kaohly Her will be St. Paul’s new mayor, the city’s 55th since Thomas R. Potts kicked us off in 1850. Everything has gone swimmingly. Her won smoothly and without contention. Mayor Melvin Carter was ramrod straight and dignified in his concession.

Her was once one of Carter’s policy advisers, of whom he had many. Perhaps Her can trim the heft from a mayor’s office that has grown preposterously bloated with too many assistants to the assistants. Pinch me, but by all accounts, Her is a detail person who embraces the unglamorous nitty-gritty of trying to make things work.

There is a more important reason to believe that Her is just what the doctor, or our city’s current condition, has ordered. She is 52. She fled Laos with her family 50 years ago. She spent time in refugee camps.

It has been reported that her family moved to Chicago, followed relatives to Wisconsin, and then joined Her’s maternal grandparents in St. Paul. The family prospered in St. Paul. Yes, prospered—as in did not wish to accept anything less. They bought houses for a dollar each under a city program and turned a profit. Her’s dad got a college degree. Kaohly went to the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

She had a 15-year career in the banking industry, living in Chicago and Maryland before returning to St. Paul after her second child was born. According to the Star Tribune, Her and her husband saved aggressively and invested in land and housing. She lives on Summit Avenue, and the family owns a hobby farm in Stillwater.

Pinch me.

In other words, Kaohly Her is not a professional activist. She has worked and succeeded in the real world. She believes others can as well. She is not a socialist. She apparently doesn’t recite a constant litany of despair, oppression, or victimization that she would intend for other people to pay for.

It’s easy to sense that she doesn’t suffer fools gladly or in any other way. Nobody, certainly in the last 50 years, has come into the mayor’s office with such a history of non-political success. She is heavily invested in the city as a homeowner.

She has to understand that St. Paul cannot survive the constant property-tax increases. She must understand that spending must be brought under control, that government not only must work, but that its employees must show up for work.

A fellow can really let the fantasy off the leash about that farm. That means that Her owns stuff and knows how to use stuff. They probably have a tractor and shovels and a lawn mower, pitchforks and a couple of ladders. She not only goes to the hardware store, but maybe even likes going to the hardware store. She is leading the life of a regular person.

This is actually a shock to the system. St. Paul and Minneapolis are governed by young people, some of whom haven’t done anything except attend gender-issue seminars and anti-police rallies.

And along comes a mayoral candidate who only got into the race in August, who saw her city in decline and decided to do something about it: encourage business growth of any size, trim spending, demand results and accountability from the people she puts in place, wave to a cop once in a while.

Happy days might not be here yet, but the city at least has a chance.

Ripple Has Value Beyond XRP, Crypto Founder Pushes Back at VCs

The post **Ripple Has Value Beyond XRP, Crypto Founder Pushes Back at VCs** appeared on BitcoinEthereumNews.com.

Critics have argued that Ripple’s $40 billion valuation relies heavily on its XRP holdings. However, Versan Aljarrah, founder of Black Swan Capitalist, calls this a misunderstanding of how the company actually operates.

Some venture capitalists (VCs) have expressed skepticism about Ripple’s valuation. Reports suggest that several VCs believe Ripple is “worth nothing without XRP,” and that its equity alone does not justify the $40 billion valuation. There is speculation that these investors may have participated in Ripple’s latest funding round partly to gain indirect exposure to XRP at a discount, rather than out of confidence in Ripple’s products.

Despite these criticisms, Aljarrah argues that dismissing Ripple’s value beyond XRP reveals a fundamental misunderstanding of its architecture. Ripple’s infrastructure, liquidity hubs, and strategic partnerships act as a vital bridge between traditional finance and blockchain technology. In this ecosystem, XRP functions as the settlement layer—not the core product. Both components are interdependent and essential to Ripple’s overall value.

Over the past two years, Ripple has experienced rapid growth, completing six acquisitions and launching its USD-backed RLUSD stablecoin. According to a former Ripple employee, the company’s recent $500 million funding enables it to expand without selling XRP tokens. This strategy helps maintain market confidence and supports the company’s $40 billion valuation in secondary markets such as Carta.

Michael Arrington, founder of TechCrunch and CEO of Arrington Capital, has also pushed back against critics. He described the anti-Ripple sentiment as demonstrating “stunning amounts of cognitive dissonance,” highlighting that critics often overlook Ripple’s real-world traction and business fundamentals.

As discussions about Ripple’s valuation and future continue to intensify within the XRP community, it becomes clear that the company’s value proposition extends well beyond its XRP holdings, encompassing a broader financial infrastructure and innovative blockchain solutions.
