Japan’s First Ordinance Limits Smartphone Use to Two Hours a Day

The new ordinance, set to take effect on October 1st, marks the first of its kind in Japan by establishing smartphone usage guidelines for all residents. Notably, no penalties will be imposed for any violations of these guidelines.

The primary goal of this measure is to ensure that children get sufficient sleep, while also encouraging increased communication within families. To support this, the ordinance outlines specific cut-off times for minors when using smartphones.

Elementary school students and younger are advised to stop using their smartphones by 9 PM. Meanwhile, junior high school students and older minors (under 18 years old) are encouraged to cease smartphone use by 10 PM.

By promoting healthier smartphone habits, this initiative aims to foster better sleep and strengthen family relationships across the community.

Manoj Bajpayee On Whether He Believes In The Supernatural World, Jugnuma, Anurag Kashyap And More

**Jugnuma – The Fable: Manoj Bajpayee on the Mystical New Film**

*Jugnuma – The Fable*, starring Manoj Bajpayee and directed by Raam Reddy, is set in 1989 and tells the story of a family living in the hills whose peaceful life is disturbed by mysterious fires breaking out in their orchards. The film is currently running in theatres and features a talented cast including Priyanka Bose, Deepak Dobriyal, and Tillotama Shome.

There is a hint of mystical elements woven into the narrative, notably with Manoj Bajpayee’s character acquiring wings and flying off into the sky, adding a magical dimension to the story.

In an exclusive phone interview, Manoj Bajpayee shared insights about his involvement in the film, his thoughts on the supernatural, and more.

**How did you get associated with Jugnuma?**

Ram offered me the script, and when I read it, I was completely taken in by the unique world he created on paper. The story also touched on certain existential issues that resonated deeply with me, as I was personally searching for similar answers.

**What really made you say yes to the script? Was it Anurag, Guneet, Ram, or a combination of all three?**

Guneet came on board much later, after the film was completed. After watching it, she decided to be part of the project. Anurag saw the film in New York and immediately wanted to help take it as far as possible. However, during the making of the film, it was just Ram and me. I said yes because of Ram’s talent as a filmmaker and the script itself, which I found to be unique, mesmerizing, and magical.

**The mysterious fires and magical elements — is the story loosely based on any true incidents?**

I’m not entirely sure. Ram would be the best person to answer that. What I do know is that the inspiration came from reports of fires in jungles and mountains, which Ram then used as a springboard for his imaginative story.

**Do you believe there’s another world out there — a supernatural one?**

Sort of. Honestly, you’ll have to watch the film to really understand what it’s about. Personally, I do believe in God and in powers beyond our mental comprehension. Even though we can’t see these forces, there’s a reason why the natural world around us moves with such precision, almost like on autopilot. With our naked eyes, we perceive this presence through nature, but there has to be someone—or something—designing, protecting, and sometimes even devastating this world.

*Jugnuma – The Fable* promises to be a beautifully crafted narrative blending reality, mysticism, and human emotions. Don’t miss it in theatres now.

UP eager to move forward after beating from UST

It wasn’t the start Coach Goldwyn Monteverde and the University of the Philippines had hoped for in Season 88 of the UAAP men’s basketball tournament.

Getting pounded, 87-67, by a University of Santo Tomas team that dominated Sunday’s marquee encounter left the defending champions with little time to rue the defeat. With another challenging game ahead, the team must quickly regroup and refocus.

The beautiful destination 5 hours from UK that boasts 29C in October and turquoise lagoons

The Red Sea, popularized by famous winter sun destinations like Sharm El Sheikh and Hurghada in Egypt, is usually a go-to for winter sun seekers. Perfect weather year-round and mid-length flights further boost the ideal conditions for holidaymakers on our side of the world. Not to mention, holiday packages can make planning a trip on short notice a lot easier.

However, for those looking for something a little more exclusive, yet surprisingly attainable, there is a spot well-known to Egyptians and kitesurfing enthusiasts—but yet to be discovered by Britons. It’s a little oasis of beauty and comfort: El Gouna.

Located just 30 minutes north of Hurghada, El Gouna is a plush, self-contained resort town that boasts a world of activities and a range of lavish hotels catering to all types of getaways—from honeymoons to family holidays and golfing trips.

During my 5-night holiday, I was able to sample only a few of the many excursions and comforts this town has to offer. My adventure started with a thrilling desert quad bike safari, where I visited a Bedouin encampment at sunset.

Staying at the Steigenberger Golf Resort offered an outlook into the more mature, relaxed side of the resort, where crowds vary from families with young children to seniors golfing on the hotel’s own 18-hole championship golf course located on the other side of the lagoon.

Other parts of the town lend themselves to a more active stay, like the famed Mangroovy Beach—one of the most popular spots among kitesurfers—and the sophisticated Casa Cook Hotel, which is adjacent to a kite centre for those who like to get up and go.

As well as stunning golden sand beaches, El Gouna is home to incredible coral reefs and wrecks, such as the famous Sha’ab El Erg and Careless Reef, which can be explored on snorkeling and diving tours.

Transfers within the town take no longer than 20 minutes, making it easy—and highly recommended—to plan a variety of activities within a day. For those seeking a truly local experience, tuk-tuks provide a whimsical way to explore the town, allowing for spontaneous stops that make exploring fun and effortless.

When it comes to dining and nightlife, Abu Tig Marina and the Downtown area are the places to be. These lively spots feature local shops and restaurants with something for everyone.

At dusk and in the evening, these areas come to life as hotspots for visitors looking to try different cuisines—ranging from the top-rated African eatery Bongoyo to Camino, a lively Latin restaurant.

I’d strongly recommend anyone visiting El Gouna to create their own scent as a holiday keepsake at Norshek, a charming store selling hair and body products made with natural oils. Here, you can customize your body butter, hand wash, perfume, or hair conditioner to your liking.

Try a blend of oud and pomegranate for a sweet and indulgent, long-lasting mix.

For Indian food lovers, Tandoor is a must-visit. Not only does it boast a privileged location overlooking the entire marina, but it also offers superb fare with all the classics plus a few unique fusion dishes.

Fanadir Marina offers a more upscale, quieter atmosphere where diners can enjoy uninterrupted views of docked boats while savoring a dimly lit supper or shopping for clothes.

Among the dining options, Villa Caracas is the place to go for traditional Lebanese cuisine, while the neighboring restaurant Marzipan serves authentic Egyptian fare in abundant portions that are ideal for sharing.

Another highlight of El Gouna is its proximity to Luxor, a day tour that begins with a surreal drive through the desert and showcases some of Egypt’s most spectacular landmarks. These include the colossal Karnak Temple and the Valley of the Kings—an ancient royal burial ground from Egypt’s New Kingdom.

For those staying overnight in Luxor, adventurers can enjoy a hot air balloon ride at sunrise. This offers stunning views of many ancient landmarks, including the imposing mortuary temple of Hatshepsut, and a striking contrast between the lush, cultivated fields lining the Nile River and the surrounding desert and mountains.

Will EU Missions’ momentum carry them beyond 2030?

Plans by the European Commission to stop financing the EU Missions through Horizon Europe in 2030 are not winning unanimous support. While some stakeholders believe that the momentum of these initiatives will carry them forward, others worry that discontinuing funding could undermine the progress made so far.

Ending funding in 2030 risks jeopardizing advancements just as many initiatives begin to deliver tangible results, said Pirita Lindholm, director of the European Regions Research and Innovation Network (ERRIN). She emphasized that tackling societal challenges does not end in 2030; continued support is essential to maintain momentum.

Launched in 2021, the five EU Missions are large-scale initiatives designed to address some of the European Union’s greatest challenges. These include climate change, cancer, ocean restoration, soil health, and the development of climate-neutral and smart cities. Each mission was given clear goals to guide their impactful work.

FDA will advise doctors about link between autism, acetaminophen use during pregnancy, Trump says

President Donald Trump announced Monday that the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will be notifying physicians that the use of acetaminophen during pregnancy “can be associated with a very increased risk of autism.”

“They are strongly recommending that women limit Tylenol use during pregnancy unless medically necessary,” he said. Trump emphasized that women should not use it during pregnancy “unless medically necessary,” such as for fever.

However, experts caution that autism is caused by multiple factors, and the science concerning the connection between Tylenol use during pregnancy and autism is not settled. Acetaminophen, commonly known by the brand name Tylenol, has long been considered the only safe over-the-counter option for pain or fever relief for pregnant individuals. Other common pain relief options like ibuprofen or regular-dose aspirin can increase the risk of serious complications during pregnancy. Meanwhile, not treating a fever can also be dangerous for both the fetus and the pregnant person.

Trump made the announcement from the Oval Office alongside US Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., FDA Commissioner Dr. Marty Makary, National Institutes of Health Director Dr. Jay Bhattacharya, and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz.

Trump thanked Kennedy, calling him “the man who brought this issue to the forefront of American politics, along with me.” “We understood a lot more than a lot of people who studied it,” Trump added.

Earlier this month, Tylenol maker Kenvue stated that it had engaged in a “scientific exchange” with HHS officials about the issue and urged pregnant women to consult their healthcare provider before taking any over-the-counter medication.

“Acetaminophen is the safest pain reliever option for pregnant women as needed throughout their entire pregnancy,” the company said in a statement Sunday. “Without it, women face dangerous choices: suffer through conditions like fever that are potentially harmful to both mom and baby or use riskier alternatives.”

The company also noted, “The facts are that over a decade of rigorous research, endorsed by leading medical professionals and global health regulators, confirms there is no credible evidence linking acetaminophen to autism. We stand with the many public health and medical professionals who have reviewed this science and agree.”

Canada’s flagship container terminal runs on 100% biofuel for shore vehicles

In Canada, Global Container Terminals (GCT) has announced that GCT Deltaport — Canada’s flagship container terminal — has now fully transitioned to 100% renewable fuel for its diesel equipment. This milestone marks a significant step forward in the company’s ongoing decarbonization journey.

This achievement was made possible through a strong partnership with the Tsawwassen First Nation (TFN) and longtime fuel supplier Parkland Corporation. Their collaboration reflects a shared commitment to sustainability and reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the maritime industry.
