UFC 322 video: Kyle Daukuas drops Gerald Meerschaert, chokes him out for blistering 50 second finish
Kyle Daukaus is making the most of his second stint in the UFC. After making short work of Michel Pereira in his return fight, Daukaus effectively did the same thing to Gerald Meerschaert at UFC 322 on Saturday.
Daukaus scored a knockdown on the feet after connecting with a blistering left hand and then quickly snatched a D’arce choke, which forced Meerschaert to tap out just 50 seconds into the opening round.
Following his release from the UFC after back-to-back losses, Daukaus has now scored six wins in a row, including two victories in the octagon with less than two minutes total time spent in the cage.
“I’m living the dream right now,” Daukaus said after the win. “The way my life is, it’s been amazing. We knew that he was going to be grappling heavy. I’m getting very comfortable in my striking and it’s showing. I knew once I tagged him, we’d follow up and get the finish.”
As soon as he left the UFC, Daukaus went on a mission to earn his way back, and he’s definitely done that with the performances that got him signed back to the roster, along with a pair of jaw-dropping wins since returning.
Daukaus put together a perfectly timed combination that ended with a punch that rattled Meerschaert, and he followed that with a few more strikes to put his opponent down. Rather than hammer away with strikes, Daukaus saw the opening for the D’arce choke and secured the submission instead.
With the win, Daukaus moves to 17-4 with one no contest, and he’s looking like a real problem for the middleweight division in his return.

Wallace shines, but Illinois offense stalls in road loss to Oregon State
**CORVALLIS, OR** — A tough one on the road for the Illini. Traveling west for their first away game of the season, Illinois took on the Oregon State Beavers Friday night. The road challenge proved too big, with the Illini coming up just short in a hard-fought 64-59 loss.
The opening quarter set the tone with fast starts followed by cold spells. Oregon State came out firing from deep, hitting its first two three-pointers, while Illinois responded with back-to-back midrange jumpers. After this early exchange, scoring stalled. The Beavers went over two minutes without a field goal and turned the ball over on three straight possessions.
The second quarter initially swung in Illinois’ favor. A steal and transition layup from Gretchen Dolan extended Illinois’ lead to 22-16, as the Illini looked poised to take control. Offensive help was scarce beyond Wallace until the final two minutes of the quarter, when Cearah Parchment nailed a clutch three-pointer to tie the game at 41. Even with Wallace’s heroics, Illinois found themselves down 43-41 entering the fourth quarter. Through three quarters, Wallace had 14 points and 3 rebounds, while Oregon State senior guard Tiara Bolden rose for the Beavers with 13 points and 5 rebounds.
The fourth quarter evolved into a battle of big shots. Parchment drilled another of her season-high 4 three-pointers with under two minutes left to cut the Beavers’ lead to three, setting up a tense finish. Yet again, Bolden answered, sinking a step-back three with 45 seconds remaining that stretched Oregon State’s lead to eight and effectively sealed the game.
Bolden finished with 25 points, tying her career high. Wallace kept Illinois alive with a banked-in three in the final seconds, ending with 24 points, but it wasn’t enough. Oregon State closed it out at the free-throw line, handing Illinois its first loss of the season, 64-59.

Texans’ Wednesday injury report includes updates on two key starters

Pelicans’ DeAndre Jordan already making a locker room impact with Derik Queen
Just a few weeks ago, DeAndre Jordan’s career was in purgatory as he had yet to sign with a team. Thankfully, the New Orleans Pelicans took a chance on him to add more veteran presence to their young roster. While Jordan has not seen a lot of playing time, he has been a welcome addition to the locker room.
In particular, he has helped Derik Queen navigate his rookie season with the Pelicans. The Pelicans got their first win of the season on Tuesday after beating the Charlotte Hornets, 116-112. Queen had his best performance yet with 12 points, eight rebounds, seven assists, and four steals in just 18 minutes off the bench.
As Queen was being interviewed in the locker room after the game, Jordan urged him to stand up and be proud of his all-around showing. The 20-year-old newcomer obliged with a smile.
“Come on, stand up, dog. You had 12, eight, and seven tonight. Don’t sit down. You got to stand on that s*** while doing the interview. There you go! Right on!” said Jordan in the video posted by Pelicans reporter Dylan Sanders.
The 37-year-old Jordan, who got a DNP versus the Hornets, is widely known in the NBA as a great teammate with a positive aura and easygoing character. Queen stepped up in the absence of Zion Williamson, who will be out for at least a week due to a hamstring injury. The 13th overall pick out of Maryland should only get better as the season progresses—especially with Jordan cheering him on.

Even Tyler Glasnow didn’t expect to be Game 6 hero for Dodgers
After becoming the first pitcher since 2001 to throw back-to-back complete games in a postseason, Yoshinobu Yamamoto only made it through six innings on Friday. With the season on the line, the Los Angeles Dodgers asked their bullpen to preserve a 3-1 lead in a must-win Game 6.
LA’s relievers were fairly well-rested after an off day following Game 5 as the World Series shifted back to Canada. Game 3 starter Tyler Glasnow didn’t believe he’d factor into the Dodgers’ relief plans. But Dave Roberts ultimately called on Glasnow to get the team out of a tight spot. And despite the unexpected outing, the 10th-year veteran delivered.
“I’m not gonna lie, I didn’t really think I was gonna get in there,” Glasnow said after the Game 6 victory, per SportsNet LA. “But I think as the game got a little bit sticky at the end, I was like, alright, there’s a real chance I’ll get in the game.”
### Tyler Glasnow Earns 1st-Career Save in Must-Win Game 6
Following Yamamoto’s departure after 96 pitches, Roberts turned to Justin Wrobleski in the seventh inning. The second-year lefty worked his third straight scoreless appearance against Toronto on Friday. Roberts skipped Blake Treinen and went straight to newly anointed closer Roki Sasaki in the eighth inning.
The rookie starter-turned-reliever last pitched on Monday, and the Dodgers hoped he could pull off a two-inning save on four days’ rest. Sasaki escaped the eighth, working around a leadoff single and a walk. But he ran into trouble again in the ninth inning.
After Alejandro Kirk was hit by a pitch, Addison Barger hammered a ground-rule double. The Dodgers were fortunate that the ball got wedged under the wall in left center. The dead ball ruling prevented a run from scoring.
However, with the tying run at second base and no outs, Roberts tabbed Glasnow to work out of the jam. If he failed, the Dodgers would be eliminated. But the All-Star righty kept LA’s World Series hopes alive.
Glasnow induced a pop-up for the first out. He then got Andres Gimenez to line into a wild, game-ending 7-4 double play. With just three pitches, Glasnow earned his first-career save and helped the Dodgers force a decisive Game 7 on Saturday.
“It’s pretty wild. I still haven’t really processed it either. Going out to be able to get a save in the World Series is pretty wild,” Glasnow said.
