**Texas Man Arrested for Killing Hyderabad Student at Gas Station**

*By Snehil Singh | October 7, 2025, 10:30 AM*

A 23-year-old Texas resident, Richard Florez, has been arrested in connection with the murder of 28-year-old Indian student Chandrashekar Pole at a Fort Worth gas station.

**The Incident**

The tragic event occurred on Friday night while Pole was working his part-time shift at a gas station on Eastchase Parkway. According to reports, Florez allegedly shot Pole before fleeing the scene. Shortly after, Florez reportedly fired at another vehicle about a mile away and then crashed his car into a gate while attempting to enter a residence on Meadowbrook Drive.

**Legal Proceedings**

Florez was apprehended soon after the crash. Authorities discovered a firearm in his vehicle. Fort Worth Police spokesperson Officer Brad Perez confirmed to NBC DFW that Florez is currently hospitalized but has been charged with homicide. The motive for the shooting remains under investigation.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office declared Pole dead at the scene.

**Victim’s Profile**

Chandrashekar Pole, a native of Hyderabad, India, had completed his Bachelor of Dental Surgery before moving to the United States two years ago. He recently earned a Master’s degree in Data Analytics from the University of North Texas in Denton and was actively seeking employment.

To support himself financially, Pole took on a part-time job at the gas station where the shooting took place.

**Repatriation Efforts**

The Indian Consulate in Houston is collaborating with Pole’s family to facilitate the repatriation of his remains. However, due to a local government shutdown, formal police statements and further details have been delayed.

This incident adds to a growing list of violent attacks involving Indian students in the United States.

**Community Reaction**

Pole’s death has deeply affected the local Indian-American community, sparking fear and mourning. In response, community members have launched a GoFundMe campaign to assist with repatriation costs and support for Pole’s family.

This is not an isolated incident; on September 10, another Indian-origin individual, Chandra Nagamallaiah from Karnataka, was fatally attacked at his workplace in East Dallas, Texas, during a dispute with a co-worker.

Our thoughts are with the families and communities affected by these tragic events. We will continue to follow this story as it develops.

Taylor Swift’s latest album, *The Life of a Showgirl*, has made an extraordinary impact, reportedly selling an astonishing 2.7 million copies on its first day in the United States. This marks Swift’s biggest single-day sales week ever and the second-highest sales week for any album since Luminate began tracking data in 1991.

The only album to surpass this feat is Adele’s *25*, which sold 3.378 million copies in its first week back in 2015, underscoring the magnitude of Swift’s achievement.

### Vinyl Sales Record Broken

In addition to digital and physical sales, *The Life of a Showgirl* has shattered vinyl album sales records. The album sold 1.2 million vinyl copies in its first week, surpassing the previous record held by Swift herself. Her 2024 album, *The Tortured Poets Department*, had sold 859,000 vinyl copies during its debut week.

### Box Office Success for Concert Film

Swift’s momentum extends beyond music sales. Her concert film, *The Official Release Party of a Showgirl*, topped the box office during its opening weekend, generating $33 million in North America, according to estimates from Comscore.

Internationally, the film earned an additional $13 million through AMC Entertainment Holdings Inc., playing for over three days in all 540 AMC theaters across the US.

### Historic Career Milestone

Adding to her list of accomplishments, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) recently announced that Taylor Swift has become the first and only female artist to surpass 100 million album sales in the United States.

To date, Swift has sold an impressive 105 million albums, ranking her sixth among the highest-selling artists worldwide. She follows iconic legends such as The Beatles, Garth Brooks, Elvis Presley, Eagles, and Led Zeppelin.

US Supreme Court’s new term will examine Trump’s presidential power

**US Supreme Court’s New Term to Examine Trump’s Presidential Powers**

*By Chanshimla Varah | October 7, 2025, 11:20 AM*

The United States Supreme Court opened its new term on Monday, with Chief Justice John Roberts swiftly rejecting over 800 pending appeals. Among these was a notable appeal from Ghislaine Maxwell, who challenged her conviction for luring teenage girls to be sexually abused by her late partner, Jeffrey Epstein.

### Focus on Trump’s Expansive Presidential Power

Over the next ten months, a primary focus for the justices will be assessing former President Donald Trump’s broad claims of presidential power. Several key cases related to his administration’s actions are set to be heard this term.

### LGBTQ+ Rights: Therapy Ban Cases

One of the initial cases the court will review concerns state bans on therapy aimed at changing sexual orientation or gender identity. Nearly half of the U.S. states have enacted such bans, making this a critical case for LGBTQ+ rights nationwide.

### Trade and Tariff Case

On November 5, the court will hear a major case addressing Trump’s imposition of tariffs on imports. Two lower courts have ruled that Trump lacked the statutory authority to impose these tariffs, setting the stage for a significant Supreme Court decision.

### Authority Over Independent Agencies

In December, the court will consider a case regarding Trump’s authority to remove members of independent agencies at will. This case has the potential to overturn or significantly narrow a 90-year-old precedent surrounding presidential powers.

### Birthright Citizenship Executive Order

Another significant case pending before the court involves Trump’s executive order that sought to deny birthright citizenship to children born in the U.S. to parents who are either in the country illegally or temporarily. The Trump administration has appealed lower court rulings declaring this order unconstitutional. Arguments on this case may take place in late winter or early spring.

### Federal Reserve Board Dispute

The justices will also conduct an expedited review of Trump’s attempt to remove Lisa Cook from her position as a governor on the Federal Reserve Board, a key and influential institution in U.S. financial policy.

### National Guard Troop Deployment Legal Battle

The term will also see a legal dispute stemming from Trump’s efforts to seize control of state National Guard troops and deploy them in cities where he alleged rampant crime, despite opposition from local and state leaders. A federal court in Oregon has barred Trump’s proposed troop deployment to Portland, and an appeals court is set to review this decision in the coming days.

As the Supreme Court embarks on this term, many of the cases will have far-reaching consequences on the bounds of presidential authority and the legal landscape surrounding policy and civil rights.

Women’s World Cup, Nonkululeko Mlaba claims 4-fer versus NZ: Stats

**Women’s World Cup: Nonkululeko Mlaba Claims Four-Wicket Haul Against New Zealand**

*By Rajdeep Saha | Oct 06, 2025 | 6:42 pm*

South African spinner Nonkululeko Mlaba delivered a match-winning performance in a crucial ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 encounter against New Zealand at Indore.

Mlaba showcased her spin bowling prowess by taking 4 wickets for 40 runs from her full quota of 10 overs. New Zealand seemed to be cruising at 187/3 in the 38th over, buoyed by a strong 86-run partnership. However, Mlaba struck decisively to break the momentum and triggered a stunning collapse.

Coming back to bowl in the 39th over, Mlaba immediately dismissed the well-set Brooke Halliday, who had made 45 runs. The wicket fell on the very first ball of the over when Halliday mistimed a slog sweep.

Mlaba continued her dominance by picking up the wickets of Maddy Green and half-centurion Sophie Devine in quick succession. Green was undone by a reverse sweep, while Devine was dismissed soon after. She wrapped up her spell by claiming the wicket of Lea Tahuhu, leaving New Zealand bowled out for 231.

This four-wicket haul was Mlaba’s second such performance in Women’s One Day Internationals (WODIs). With this effort, she has now amassed 42 wickets in 39 WODIs, maintaining an average of 34.85 and an economy rate of 4.80.

Specifically against New Zealand, Mlaba has been particularly effective, claiming 9 wickets in 4 matches at an impressive average of 17.44 and an economy rate of 4.02.

Playing only her second match in the Women’s World Cup, Mlaba’s impactful bowling has given South Africa a significant boost as she opens her wicket tally in this prestigious tournament.

In the midst of the chaos, elephants have emerged as unexpected heroes. Ravikant Jha, Assistant Wildlife Warden of Jaldapara, shared how elephants are aiding rescue efforts by transporting stranded tourists after a wooden bridge near a lodge collapsed. “Our elephants have brought 2-4 tourists across the river because the bridge broke due to rain,” he said.

Additionally, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has been actively involved in flood and water rescue operations. They have successfully rescued over 160 people from the affected areas—105 by boat and another 55 either airlifted or pulled across using zip lines in Jalpaiguri. During these operations, one deceased individual was also recovered.

**Weather Forecast**

The India Meteorological Department has forecasted that scattered light to moderate rains will continue in the sub-Himalayan regions until October 12. Isolated thunderstorms, gusty winds reaching 30-40 km/h, and lightning are expected to persist until Tuesday morning.

The ongoing rains and floods continue to wreak havoc on both human lives and wildlife, highlighting the urgent need for sustained rescue efforts and disaster preparedness in the region.
