Who is eligible for payment in the $2.5B Amazon settlement? Here’s how to get a cut

It’s payback time for these conned customers. Amazon has begun sending automatic refunds to millions of eligible Prime customers as a result of the company’s $2. 5 billion settlement with the Federal Trade Commission, the agency confirmed. The FTC accused Amazon of deceiving customers into signing up for Prime subscriptions while intentionally making it difficult to cancel. The settlement consists of $1 billion in civil penalties and $1. 5 billion going directly to eligible Prime subscribers, capped at $51 per person. The first wave of payments, which started being sent on Nov. 12, will be automatic and will be sent out through Dec. 24. The FTC said that customers should accept their refunds within 15 days of receiving them. As part of the agreement, Amazon must now provide customers with clear disclosures, get explicit consent for subscriptions, and require an easy cancellation process. “The Trump-Vance FTC made history and secured a record-breaking, monumental win for the millions of Americans who are tired of deceptive subscriptions that feel impossible to cancel,” FTC chair Andrew Ferguson said in a statement in September. “Amazon and our executives have always followed the law, and this settlement allows us to move forward and focus on innovating for customers,” Amazon spokesperson Mark Blafkin said in a statement at the time. “We work incredibly hard to make it clear and simple for customers to both sign up or cancel their Prime membership, and to offer substantial value for our many millions of loyal Prime members around the world.” Who qualifies for a refund in the Amazon settlement? Subscribers must have signed up for Prime between June 23, 2019, and June 23, 2025, to be eligible for a refund. Refunds will be issued in two waves. The first wave of refunds consists of subscribers who signed up for a Prime subscription through a “challenged enrollment flow” and haven’t used more than three Prime benefits, “the member would not have received if they were not a Prime member.” Challenged enrollment flows include “any version of the Universal Prime Decision Page, the Shipping Option Select Page, Prime Video enrollment flow, or the Single Page Checkout.” These customers do not need to submit claims and will receive a payment of $51 maximum, “the total amount of membership fees paid” during a subscription. The second wave of customers will have to fill out a form after the automatic payment period ends on Dec. 24 to receive payment. Amazon will send out a form to those eligible to make a claim, and they will have up to 180 days after receiving the form to submit it. Amazon will have up to 30 days to review the claims submitted and will then pay those with valid claims the total amount of Amazon Prime membership fees, up to $51. This group includes customers who signed up through a challenged enrollment flow or unsuccessfully attempted to cancel their memberships during the five-year period, and haven’t used more than 10 benefits during any 12 months of enrollment. An attempt to cancel is defined as “entering, but failing to complete, the online cancellation process” or “taking a Save Offer during the online cancellation process.” How to receive your refund Subscribers eligible for an automatic refund will receive an email about it and can collect the money through PayPal or Venmo. “Once you do not claim the PayPal or Venmo payment, Amazon will mail you a check to your default shipping address listed on your Prime subscription,” the agency explained, adding that customers should cash their checks within 60 days. The FTC said that those who are eligible but did not get an automatic refund should wait for further guidance in 2026. “In 2026, Amazon will begin its claims process for eligible Prime customers who didn’t get an automatic refund between November and December 2025.”.

Senate Approves Bipartisan Deal To End 41-Day Shutdown

The Senate approved a government funding package to reopen the federal government Monday night, despite objections from Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and a majority of Democrats. Lawmakers voted 60 to 40 in favor of the legislation, with eight Democrats joining Republicans to support the measure. Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul was the lone Republican to vote “no,” citing the measure’s insufficient spending cuts.

Democratic Sens. Catherine Cortez Masto of Nevada, John Fetterman of Pennsylvania, Tim Kaine of Virginia, Jeanne Shaheen and Maggie Hassan of New Hampshire, and Dick Durbin of Illinois voted “yes” on the legislation, bringing an end to the 41-day shutdown standoff. Independent Maine Sen. Angus King, who caucuses with Democrats, also supported the funding package.

The bipartisan shutdown package will fund the government through the end of January and advance a slate of appropriations bills that will fund the Departments of Veterans’ Affairs and Agriculture, the legislative branch, and military construction for the current fiscal year. In return, Senate Republicans have committed to holding a vote on extending enhanced Affordable Care Act (ACA) subsidies slated to expire at year’s end and to rehire federal workers laid off during the shutdown.

President Donald Trump told reporters in the Oval Office Monday that he will abide by the terms of the deal, calling it “very good.” The successful vote brings Congress one step closer to ending the record-breaking shutdown. However, the House of Representatives must approve the legislation before President Trump can sign the measure into law.

The final vote came after the same group of Democratic caucus members advanced the stopgap bill on Sunday night in a notable break with Schumer and House Democratic leadership. The defecting senators argued that the shutdown’s pain for Americans had become too great and that the minor concessions secured from Republicans were sufficient.

“Many of my friends are unhappy. They think we should have kept our government closed indefinitely,” Senate Minority Whip Dick Durbin, the second-ranking Democrat who supported the shutdown deal, said on the Senate floor Monday. “I cannot accept a strategy which wages political battle at the expense of my neighbor’s paycheck or the food for his children.”

“It’s become clear after six weeks of the shutdown that the strategy of shutting down the government and forcing the Republicans to talk about the ACA wasn’t working,” King said in a video posted to social media Sunday night. “The shutdown wasn’t achieving its goal, and it was at the same time hurting a lot of people.”

The group of seven Democrats and King voted to advance the funding package on Monday evening despite scathing criticism from their Democratic colleagues, left-wing activists, and the party’s base.

Fetterman told the Daily Caller News Foundation Monday that more than eight Democratic caucus members supported the Senate deal but were afraid to publicly back the legislation. “There were plenty more than just the eight that wanted to vote [yes], but they were afraid,” Fetterman said.

“What has worked in the past is not working now,” Michigan Sen. Elissa Slotkin, who voted against the government funding package, told reporters Monday regarding Schumer’s strategy during the shutdown. “We need to meet the moment, and we’re not doing that.”

Slotkin and a large chunk of congressional Democrats slammed the shutdown deal as insufficient for failing to secure an ACA subsidy extension. Though Senate Majority Leader John Thune has pledged to hold a vote on an extension bill of Democrats’ choosing in December, Republicans overwhelmingly oppose a clean extension.

Republican Texas Sen. John Cornyn told reporters Monday that a planned vote on a Democratic ACA bill has “no chance” of passing.

Though a number of senators briefly held up the shutdown package Monday, every member ultimately consented to fast-track the legislation to a vote on final passage.

“The American people have suffered for long enough. Let’s not pointlessly drag this bill out,” Senate Majority Leader John Thune said on the Senate floor Monday. “Let’s get it done, and get it over to the House, so that we can get this government open.”

House Speaker Mike Johnson urged lawmakers Monday to return to Washington to vote on the spending measures later this week. Due to Congress observing Veterans Day on Tuesday, the earliest the House could vote on the legislation is Wednesday.

“And as of Sunday, nearly half of all domestic flights and U.S. flights were either canceled or delayed. It’s a very serious situation,” Johnson told reporters. “So, I’m saying that by way of reminder, I’m stating the obvious to all my colleagues, Republicans and Democrats in the House. You need to begin right now returning to the Hill. We have to do this as quickly as possible.”

John Cena discussed for 18th World Title win (REPORTS)

John Cena already holds the record for the most world title reigns with 17 after beating Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship at WrestleMania 41. However, the latest reports suggest that WWE discussed the possibility of making Cena an 18-time WWE World Champion.

One of the main storylines for Cena’s farewell tour was his pursuit of world title No. 17 to break Ric Flair’s record. Although he failed to win the Royal Rumble, Cena earned a shot at Rhodes by winning the Elimination Chamber. He also turned heel, which helped ensure his record-breaking victory at WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas.

With John Cena’s retirement tour set to conclude on December 13 at Saturday Night’s Main Event in Washington, D.C., some interesting plans were pitched for “The GOAT.” Fightful Select reported that there were discussions about putting another world title on Cena, especially amid Seth Rollins’ legitimate shoulder injury. Ultimately, WWE decided on a different approach: a tournament to determine John Cena’s final opponent.

The tournament, called “Last Time is Now,” will feature 16 stars from RAW, SmackDown, and NXT. Cena even mentioned the possibility of including stars not currently under WWE contract. The first four names announced for the tournament were Sheamus, Damian Priest, Rusev, and Shinsuke Nakamura. Cena has a long history with both Sheamus and Rusev throughout his illustrious career.

John Cena has just four appearances left in his farewell tour as his in-ring career nears its end. His next scheduled appearance is on Monday Night RAW in Boston—his hometown—which will be a significant moment for the WWE Universe. That card will also feature two tournament matches, so Cena is likely to play a prominent role.

Following Boston, Cena is set to appear on the November 17 episode of RAW in New York City. This will mark his final active appearance at the iconic Madison Square Garden.

Cena’s last two dates on the tour are Survivor Series: WarGames in San Diego and Saturday Night’s Main Event in Washington, D.C. Rumors suggest Cena could face Dominik Mysterio for the Intercontinental Championship at Survivor Series. Additionally, Gunther has been tipped as Cena’s potential final opponent, though nothing has been officially confirmed as of this writing.

As Cena’s farewell tour draws to a close, fans eagerly await the final chapters of one of wrestling’s greatest careers.

Canada Fast-Tracks Stablecoin Rules Ahead of November 4 Budget

Canada’s Crypto Scene Heats Up as Government Moves to Regulate Stablecoins

Canada’s cryptocurrency landscape is rapidly evolving, with the government taking a proactive role in shaping the future of digital assets. Ottawa is moving swiftly to introduce stablecoin regulations, with detailed proposals expected to be unveiled in the upcoming federal budget on November 4. This development comes just days after a record-breaking $126 million fine was levied against a crypto company for anti-money laundering violations. Here’s what you need to know.

Stablecoin Rules Finally on the Way

According to Bloomberg, Canadian officials have spent the past few weeks engaged in intensive discussions with regulators and industry leaders to finalize the framework for stablecoin governance. These talks are anticipated to culminate in clear regulatory proposals when Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne presents the new budget next week.

Stablecoins play a crucial role as a bridge between digital assets and mainstream finance. However, until now, regulatory treatment of stablecoins in Canada has been unclear. Currently, regulators classify stablecoins as securities or derivatives, creating uncertainty for companies and investors alike.

Meanwhile, the United States has already taken significant steps forward. The Genius Act, enacted in July, empowers US regulators to supervise stablecoin issuers and establish reserve requirements. This legislation categorizes compliant stablecoins as payment instruments, a move that has been widely welcomed by the crypto industry.

Experts Warn of Capital Flight

Industry leaders are urging the Canadian government to act swiftly or risk falling behind in the global crypto race. John Ruffolo, founder of Maverix Private Equity, cautioned that without timely regulations, Canadian investors might increasingly turn to US stablecoins. This shift could dampen demand for Canadian bonds and weaken local financial autonomy.

“Every Canadian who transacts in a US stablecoin funds American debt, enriches American institutions and exports our financial data south,” Ruffolo remarked earlier this month.

The call for a national regulatory framework is echoed by prominent institutions. Both the Bank of Canada and the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions (OSFI) have emphasized the need to close regulatory gaps. Former deputy governor Carolyn Wilkins highlighted the importance of rules that promote “trust, security, stability and competitiveness” within the payments ecosystem.

Crackdown Sets the Tone for Enforcement

The urgency for stronger regulations was underscored last week when FINTRAC, Canada’s financial watchdog, imposed a historic $126 million fine on Cryptomus (Xeltox Enterprises Ltd) for an unprecedented 2,593 anti-money laundering violations—the largest fine ever issued in Canada’s crypto sector.

Investigations revealed the company failed to report suspicious transactions linked to serious crimes including child abuse, ransomware attacks, and Iran-related transfers. These operations were traced back to Uzbekistan and Spain.

FINTRAC criticized the company’s inadequate systems, stating they “significantly impair transparency and accountability.” The agency warned that Canada’s crypto sector still contains significant vulnerabilities that criminals can exploit.

What’s Next for Canada’s Crypto Regulations?

With regulatory clarity on stablecoins expected soon, Canadian crypto firms and investors are watching closely. Effective rules could bolster trust and foster innovation in the digital asset space, while lax oversight risks capital flight and reputational damage.

As the federal budget approaches, all eyes are on Ottawa to deliver a balanced framework that supports growth while safeguarding the financial system.

Watch SpaceX launch its 10,000th Starlink satellite to orbit today on rocket’s record-breaking 31st flight

SpaceX is set to achieve two major milestones with a single Falcon 9 launch today, October 19, and you can watch the action live. The Falcon 9 rocket is scheduled to launch 28 of SpaceX’s Starlink broadband satellites from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida. The launch window opens at 10:52 a.m. EDT (14:52 GMT) and will last for four hours.

To date, SpaceX has launched 9,988 Starlink satellites, according to astrophysicist and satellite tracker Jonathan McDowell. With today’s launch, that number will surpass the 10,000 mark, a significant milestone for the company’s ambitious satellite internet constellation.

In addition, this launch will mark the record-breaking 31st liftoff for the Falcon 9’s first-stage booster, designated Booster 1067. This level of rocket reuse is a testament to SpaceX’s innovative approach to making spaceflight more cost-effective and efficient.

SpaceX’s journey with Starlink began in February 2018 with the launch of the first two prototype satellites to low Earth orbit (LEO). Fifteen months later, the company started building the megaconstellation in earnest. The public beta test for Starlink service launched in October 2020, followed by a commercial rollout in 2021.

Today, Starlink provides internet service to millions of customers worldwide, and SpaceX continues to expand the network by regularly deploying new satellites. The pace of launches has been extraordinary in recent months — SpaceX has launched 89 Starlink missions in 2024 alone, already surpassing that number this year.

Looking ahead, SpaceX has permission to deploy up to 12,000 Starlink satellites, with plans that could see the constellation grow to more than 30,000 spacecraft, making it the largest satellite internet network ever constructed.

Out of the 9,988 satellites launched so far, most remain active, with 8,610 currently operational according to McDowell. The rest have been deorbited and are intentionally brought down to burn up in Earth’s atmosphere. Each Starlink satellite has an operational lifespan of about five years.

If everything goes according to plan today, Booster 1067 will return to Earth approximately 8.5 minutes after liftoff and land on SpaceX’s autonomous drone ship, “A Shortfall of Gravitas,” stationed in the Atlantic Ocean. This will mark the booster’s 31st successful launch and landing.

The ability to reuse rockets extensively is central to SpaceX’s strategy for reducing costs and increasing the sustainability of space missions. Building on this success, SpaceX is also developing Starship, a giant fully reusable rocket designed to enable human settlement on Mars. It is important to note that while the Falcon 9 and its close relative Falcon Heavy have reusable first stages, their upper stages remain expendable.

For today’s mission, the Falcon 9’s upper stage will carry the 28 Starlink satellites to low Earth orbit and deploy them approximately 64 minutes after launch.

Stay tuned and enjoy the live coverage of this exciting launch as SpaceX continues to push the boundaries of space technology and connectivity.

Women’s WC: Mandhana, Rawal register record-breaking opening stand against Australia

**Smriti Mandhana and Pratika Rawal Set New Record for Highest-Ever Opening Partnership Against Australia in ICC Women’s World Cups**

*By Gaurav Tripathi | Oct 12, 2025, 06:17 PM*

In a stunning display of skill and teamwork, Smriti Mandhana and Pratika Rawal have set a new record for the highest-ever opening partnership against Australia in ICC Women’s World Cups. The remarkable feat was achieved during India’s group stage match against Australia on Sunday in Visakhapatnam.

The duo surpassed the previous record held by England’s E Bakewell and D Thomas, who had put together 101 runs in the inaugural World Cup of 1973. Mandhana and Rawal are now the only pair to have registered a century stand against Australia in Women’s World Cup history.

### Record-Breaking Feat: Highest Opening Stand Against Australia

According to ESPNcricinfo, Mandhana and Rawal also set a new record for the highest-ever opening partnership against Australia in Women’s One Day Internationals (ODIs). Together, they constructed an impressive 155-run stand before Mandhana was dismissed for 80 runs.

Starting their innings cautiously, the duo gradually took control and unleashed some brilliant strokes, particularly against two of Australia’s premier bowlers, Sophie Molineux and Ashleigh Gardner. Their partnership was highlighted by a series of well-timed boundaries that thrilled fans.

### Milestone Achievement: Second ODI Partnership for Mandhana and Rawal

The ninth over of the match was a turning point when Rawal struck a six followed by a four off Gardner, pushing their partnership past the 50-run mark. This marked their 14th 50-plus stand in ODIs, placing them second only to Harmanpreet Kaur and Mithali Raj, who have 18 such partnerships for India.

This partnership was also their sixth opening stand across 21 WODI innings, with only Mithali Raj and Punam Raut having more century stands for India in this format (7 each).

### Partnership Progress: Fourth Century-Plus Stand of 2025 for the Duo

At 93 runs in the 18th over, Rawal was given a reprieve after being dropped. The partnership quickly climbed to surpass the 100-run milestone, marking their fourth century-plus stand in 2025 alone. This achievement is second only to Australia’s Belinda Clark and Lisa Keightley, who had five such stands in 2000, and New Zealand’s Suzie Bates and Rachel Priest with four in 2015.

### Smriti Mandhana Surpasses 5,000 WODI Runs

Mandhana was eventually dismissed for 80 runs off 66 balls, which included 9 fours and 3 sixes. During this innings, she crossed the significant milestone of 5,000 WODI runs, becoming the fastest woman to do so, achieving it in just 112 innings.

Her career tally now includes 13 centuries and 33 half-centuries. Additionally, with her 18th run in the game, Mandhana became the first-ever batter to complete 1,000 runs in a calendar year in WODIs.

### Pratika Rawal Scores Seventh WODI Fifty

Rawal contributed a solid 75 runs off 96 balls, featuring 10 fours and a six. The 25-year-old now has eight scores of 50 or more across 21 WODI appearances, including one century.

ESPNcricinfo reports that her seventh WODI fifty has taken her overall run tally to 982 runs at an impressive average of 49.10. This was her second fifty against Australia in just four outings and also marked her maiden fifty in the Women’s World Cup.

This landmark partnership by Mandhana and Rawal not only highlights the depth and talent in the Indian women’s cricket team but also sets the stage for an exciting campaign ahead in the World Cup.

At 93 runs in the 18th over, Rawal was dropped on the field but quickly recovered as they crossed the 100-run milestone. This marked their fourth century-plus partnership in 2025 alone, a feat only rivaled by Australia’s Belinda Clark and Lisa Keightley, who achieved five century stands in 2000, and New Zealand’s Suzie Bates and Rachel Priest, who recorded four in 2015.

### Smriti Mandhana’s Personal Milestones

Mandhana’s innings was a fine display of skill and power. She scored 80 runs off just 66 balls, including 9 fours and 3 sixes. During her stay at the crease, she passed the significant milestone of 5,000 runs in Women’s ODIs, taking only 112 innings to reach this mark — the fastest ever to do so. Her career tally now includes 13 centuries and 33 half-centuries.

Additionally, with her 18th run in the match, Mandhana became the first-ever batter in Women’s ODIs to complete 1,000 runs in a calendar year, underscoring her consistent brilliance.

### Pratika Rawal’s Impressive Performance

Rawal contributed a well-made 75 off 96 deliveries, featuring 10 fours and a six. The 25-year-old now boasts eight 50-plus scores in 21 WODI appearances, including one century. According to ESPNcricinfo, her seventh WODI fifty brought her total runs to 982 at an excellent average of 49.10.

This innings marked her second fifty in just four outings against Australia and her maiden half-century in the ICC Women’s World Cup, highlighting her emergence as a dependable middle-order batter for India.

The record-breaking opening stand by Mandhana and Rawal not only set the tone for India’s innings but also added a memorable chapter to the history of Women’s cricket. Their combination of resilience, skill, and aggression promises exciting times ahead for Indian cricket fans.
