20 Great Rap Artists Who Never Had a Top 40 Hit

Last week, hip-hop made headlines for a dubious reason. For the first time in more than 35 years, no rap songs appeared in the Billboard Hot 100’s top 40. This came after “Luther,” Kendrick Lamar’s duet with SZA, was removed from the chart following the implementation of a new rule.

The news sparked dialogue about the lack of hits from rappers on the charts. Even with the dominant success of “Luther” — which spent 13 weeks at No. 1 — rap has had a shaky year commercially.

In some ways, the latest news gave rap doubters more ammunition for a sentiment that has been reoccurring since the end of the pandemic: that the genre is dying, being lapped by fresher, more global sounds like K-pop and Latin music. It’s unclear whether the past couple of years are an aberration or the new normal.

One thing that complicates this narrative is that, historically, the charts haven’t always been the most important factor in hip-hop. In fact, some of the greatest and most genre-defining rap songs of the past 50-plus years—everything from Nas’ “N. Y. State of Mind” to Rick Ross’ “B. M. F.”—were never Top 40 hits, even though those songs are synonymous with hip-hop and, in some cases, have earned plaques. (“N. Y. State of Mind” went gold, while “B. M. F.” went platinum.)

This applies to the artists themselves, too. Some of the greatest and most accomplished rap artists of all time have never had a Top 40 hit. (We’re focusing on the Top 40 because that’s traditionally been the distinction between a hit and a non-hit—a measure that goes back to the 1950s.)

Dogecoin Price Slides Below $0.18 As Traders Cut Leverage And Meme Coin Momentum Fades

**Dogecoin Drops 7% to $0.173 Amid $22.27 Million in Daily Outflows**

*By Parshwa Turakhiya*

Dogecoin (DOGE-USD) fell nearly 7% on Sunday to around $0.173, extending a week-long decline as traders exited leveraged positions and liquidity flows turned sharply negative. The drop below the $0.18 support marks a key technical level being broken, signaling increased bearish sentiment.

Despite a 50% surge in futures trading volume, open interest declined, indicating that traders might be closing positions rather than opening new ones. Oversold signals from technical indicators suggest a potential short-term relief rally near the $0.17 mark.

The $22.27 million in daily outflows further highlights the pressure on Dogecoin as investors pull liquidity from the market.

‘No words’: Expert horrified as Trump deports woman victimized by domestic abuse

The Trump administration left an immigration expert floored after deporting a woman who had gone to the police to secure justice against her husband for leveling death threats—despite Congress having created a visa program explicitly to protect people in that precise situation.

The case, originally reported by the Los Angeles Times, concerns an undocumented woman known only as “Carmen.” Carmen’s abusive husband came home drunk one night last summer. He pounded and kicked the door, threatening to kill her as her young son watched in horror. She called the police and eventually obtained a restraining order.

Months later, he returned and beat her again. Police intervened once more, and he was eventually deported, reported Rachel Uranga.

Thinking she had finally escaped his cruelty, Carmen applied for what is known as a U-Visa. This visa provides crime victims a way to stay in the United States legally.

However, according to the report, her application was left to gather dust. During a regular immigration check-in in June, Carmen was detained. Two months later, she was put on a plane with her 8-year-old son, who had just completed second grade. She was headed to her home country, terrified that her husband would find her.

Carmen is one of several deportees represented by a group of lawyers who, in October, sued the Trump administration in the Central District of California. The lawsuit challenges the detention and deportation of survivors with pending visa applications, some of whom have already been granted status to stay—and sometimes work—in the United States.

Here is what it would take for me to join a No Kings rally (Opinion)

To all those who wrote me personally or sent a letter to the editor about my October 19th column, I’m glad you attended the No Kings rally. You’re right; the protest did succeed in providing participants a sense of community and a platform to voice concerns about Trump’s abuse of power.

The flawed optics, however, obscured the protest’s vital message and hardened the hearts of Trump supporters as I feared it would. In the future, protests against Trump’s unconstitutional actions must do more than simply amplify voices of resistance; they must ensure those voices are actually heard.

When I talk with people who ardently disagree with me, I do not try to make them see I am right. Rather, I aim to move them from “you’re wrong, Kafer” to “that’s reasonable. I can see why you feel that way.” This is a considerable step given that nobody wants to change his or her mind.

Reaching plausibility, the first step in persuasion, requires credibility and consistency. Thus, the next rally must present a more consistent, credible message to be heard beyond those who already agree.

### First, fix the signs.

Protest signs I saw included messages such as:
– “You ban books. You ban drag, yet kids are still in body bags,”
– “Defund Israel,”
– “Putin’s Puppet,”
– “Tax the Rich,”
– “Color is not a crime,” and
– “RFK’s brainworms died of starvation.”

There were also various flags—blue and pink, rainbow, Ukrainian, etc. All of this, and the costumes, made the protests appear to be catch-all leftist rallies rather than a unified movement against abuse of power.

Waving signs that read “Save due process,” “Protect the constitution,” “The 10th Amendment matters,” and “I didn’t support Biden’s abuses either” lack flair but they would be more likely to make Trump supporters question Trump’s abuses than a hodgepodge of off-message partisan policy preferences or over-the-top comparisons with mass-murdering dictators.

Signs reading “German soldiers were also just following orders!!!,” “Not my dictator,” and “No Nazis” are ridiculous. Remember, fear is a potent but risky tactic in persuasion. Too little has no impact, but too much is likely to evoke disbelief or fatalistic inaction. Nazi signs generate eye rolls, not credibility.

And while there is truth to the assertion that Trump behaves more like a monarch than a constitutionally-restrained elected official, the slogan “No Kings” evokes derision. Kings are not elected; Trump was. Kings don’t generally tolerate protests; they arrest protesters. There’s a reason there are few political marches in Brunei, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, or Eswatini, where royalty holds power.

### Second, the next rally must emphasize bipartisanship.

Don’t list dozens of leftist organizations on the website or on flyers because it only furthers the lie that protests were dominated by the far-left and protesters were paid for their participation. Organizers were paid, as they are for every large-scale event undertaken by the right or left, but participants were unpaid volunteers.

Any website or flyer should focus on volunteers, not those working on logistics.

### Lastly, save the costumes for Halloween.

While there were comparatively few frogs, unicorns, and dinosaurs in the crowd, they were the most noticeable participants. Perhaps silly costumes successfully combated false narratives about threatening, angry protesters as intended, but they also detracted from the seriousness of the message.

Did the guys dressed as Founding Fathers at Tea Party rallies during the Obama presidency make you more or less open to their message about the size and scope of the federal government? One of the reasons the 60s Civil Rights marches were so successful is that ambivalent Americans saw men and women in ties and dresses.

In the future, remember any strangely dressed person in the crowd will end up on camera and appear representative of the whole. Look like the people you want to influence.

Next time, if the message is more consistent and the messenger more credible, the protest will do more to multiply the number of concerned Americans rather than further divide.

I honked in solidarity as I drove by the Littleton No Kings rally. Perhaps next time, I will join.

49ers HC Kyle Shanahan Makes Admission on Brock Purdy’s Injury

The San Francisco 49ers have shown they can win without quarterback Brock Purdy, which is reassuring given that he may not be fully healthy anytime soon.

Niners coach Kyle Shanahan announced that Purdy might not be at full strength for the remainder of this season. Purdy missed his fifth straight game during the 49ers’ 34-24 victory over the New York Giants. The team currently stands at 6-3 overall and 5-2 with Mac Jones starting in Purdy’s absence due to a lingering toe injury.

Purdy has missed two games earlier in the season because of this toe ailment, along with an injury to his non-throwing shoulder. Despite this, reports suggest he could be well enough to return for San Francisco’s upcoming showdown on Sunday against their rivals, the Los Angeles Rams, at Levi’s Stadium.

### Brock Purdy May Not Be 100 Percent Again This Season

No player who logs significant snaps is ever truly 100 percent healthy once November rolls around, but Purdy’s condition—turf toe, medically defined as a hyperextended big toe—is especially painful when playing on artificial turf. This injury is likely to remain a concern for the 49ers throughout the rest of the season.

“Any time you’re dealing with this turf toe, it’s something that probably won’t fully go away all year,” Shanahan said after the 49ers’ win over the Giants. “Regardless of when he comes back, he’s always going to have to deal with it a little bit.”

The 49ers have played two consecutive games on turf and three of their past five games on artificial surfaces. However, that streak will end when they return home to face the Rams. Sunday’s game marks the start of a stretch featuring five straight games on grass (including four in a row), followed by their Week 14 bye and then a home game in Tennessee.

This upcoming matchup is considered conducive for Purdy’s potential return, according to Shanahan. “When you talk to people who have gone through turf toe, it’s really about when is it the best time when you have to deal with it the least,” Shanahan explained. “It’s a little bit of a tricky decision.”

### The 49ers Are Trying To Get Brock Purdy As Healthy As Possible Before He Returns

When asked about the possibility of Purdy undergoing toe surgery, Shanahan indicated that it is unlikely. Meanwhile, Mac Jones has continued to perform impressively in his pro career. The fifth-year quarterback boasts a 67.2% completion percentage, a 10-5 touchdown-to-interception ratio, and is averaging 261.7 passing yards per game. This strong performance has provided no pressing reason to rush Purdy back onto the field.

Shanahan is focused on carefully easing Purdy back into practice, conscious of not pushing the quarterback too hard given the severity of his injury. The 49ers currently hold about an 80% chance of making the playoffs, and they will want their No. 1 quarterback healthy if they hope to make a serious run at playing a Super Bowl on their home turf in February.

“I just want to make sure he gets 100 percent better, and I won’t put him out there too early,” Shanahan said. “I thought about [Purdy] as a backup or emergency [third QB], but I think the more time we give him, the better.”

Former NBA All-Star Wants Grizzlies to Trade Ja Morant

A former NBA All-Star has called for Ja Morant to be traded from the Memphis Grizzlies, drawing clear parallels between his own public trade situation in 2017 and that of the 2019 No. 2 overall pick.

DeMarcus Cousins appeared on the “Run It Back” podcast on November 3 and shared his thoughts on the developing Morant situation. “It’s time to move on. This ship has sailed,” Cousins stated. “The Grizzlies have made their decision as to who they’re siding with when they decided to suspend Ja Morant. This was a coaching staff that was brought in with a militant style of coaching. It doesn’t blend well with everybody, and it doesn’t blend well with modern basketball.”

The Grizzlies suspended Morant for one game on November 1 for “conduct detrimental to the team” after he appeared to criticize the coaching staff following a 117-112 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers. Since then, Morant has become the subject of swirling trade rumors.

### Ja Morant’s Struggles to Begin the Season

Morant’s performance during the loss to the Lakers on October 31 was uninspired; he scored just eight points on 3-of-14 shooting from the field. When reporters questioned him about his performance, he repeatedly deflected, directing attention toward the coaching staff.

“Go ask the coaching staff why,” Morant said when asked whether he was lacking his usual energy. “According to them, don’t play me. That was the message after [the game].”

The 2025-26 season has been a difficult start for Morant, his first full year playing under new Grizzlies head coach Tuomas Iisalo. Through six games, he is averaging 20.8 points, 6.7 assists, and 3.3 rebounds—all below his 2024-25 season averages. Morant is also struggling from beyond the arc, shooting just 15.6% from three-point range.

Iisalo was hired as the Grizzlies head coach after serving as interim following the firing of Taylor Jenkins last season. A native of Finland, Iisalo brings extensive coaching experience from Europe, including a head coaching stint at Paris Basketball. Morant, meanwhile, spent his first six NBA seasons playing under Jenkins.

### DeMarcus Cousins’ Falling Out With the Kings

Cousins has his own history of being traded after a deteriorating relationship with his original team. While with the Sacramento Kings, he was suspended for one game by the NBA on February 7, 2017, after accruing 16 technical fouls in just 50 games—an NBA record for the earliest automatic suspension.

Initially, the Kings claimed Cousins would not be traded, but on February 19, 2017, he was dealt to the New Orleans Pelicans. The organization cited concerns about extending Cousins’ contract given his history of technical fouls as a motivating factor behind the trade.

“It was time for a change and I decided this was the best direction for the organization,” Kings general manager Vlade Divac said in a team-issued statement. “Winning begins with culture and character matters.”

### What This Means for Morant and the Grizzlies

Cousins is clearly siding with Morant in this case, believing that Memphis will be unable to maximize the guard’s skillset under its new coaching staff. With tensions high and trade rumors mounting, Morant’s situation could be headed toward a similar outcome as Cousins’ time with the Kings.

As the season progresses, all eyes will be on the Grizzlies’ front office and coaching staff to see if they can resolve the issues or if a trade will become inevitable.

University Of Miami Health Systems Allegedly Deletes Post Celebrating Expansion Into Abu Dhabi

The University of Miami Health Systems allegedly deleted a recent social media post celebrating an international expansion, according to a screenshot circulating online.

Conservative influencer Rogan O’Handley made a post on X on October 31, indicating that the University of Miami Health Systems appears to have deleted its original announcement about the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute’s expansion to Abu Dhabi.

“Oops, looks like UMiami Health Systems deleted their post about opening a fancy new hospital in Abu Dhabi while they take US government subsidies funded by we the taxpayer,” O’Handley wrote.

He also included a screenshot of the since-deleted post shared by the health system. The original post read:

“Opening soon in Abu Dhabi: @BascomPalmerEye Institute, part of UHealth, is making history with our first international expansion! We are proud to announce the opening of our newest location in Abu Dhabi! This expansion brings world-class eye care and groundbreaking research to…”

The full caption was hidden behind the “show more” button, according to the screenshot.

Earlier, on October 30, O’Handley called for “serious reform” of the 340B government drug program in another X post. He questioned:

“Is there anything worse than a US hospital that gets rich off the 340b government drug program using their money to build lavish hospitals in *other* countries? Do you know who is subsidizing this? You and your tax dollars. 340b needs serious reform.”

A link to an X post from @UMiamiHealth included in O’Handley’s post appears to have been deleted.

According to a press release dated October 29, the expansion of the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute is occurring under the supervision of the Department of Health Abu Dhabi (DoH) and involves a “strategic collaboration” between the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute and August Medical, part of the SOZA Group. The facility is set to open in November.

The Abu Dhabi-based institute is a state-of-the-art facility that will provide high-quality ophthalmic care, research, and medical education. It will also feature an optical department and a pharmacy, according to the press release.

Regarding the 340B drug program, the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) explains that it “enables covered entities to stretch scarce federal resources as far as possible, reaching more eligible patients and providing more comprehensive services.” Eligible organizations and covered entities “must register and be enrolled with the 340B program and comply with all 340B Program requirements.” Covered entities receive an identification number that vendors verify before allowing an organization to purchase discounted drugs, according to HRSA’s website.

The Daily Caller contacted the University of Miami Health Systems’ Miller School of Medicine for comment but had not received a response at the time of publication.
