Ganado’s gameday moves to Friday, coach Ervin’s approach remains the same

The defending 2A D1 state champion and No. 2 ranked Ganado Indians (10-1, 6-0) enjoyed a blowout victory in last Thursday’s bi-district playoff contest. They faced off against the Three Rivers Bulldogs (4-7, 3-3) at Taft Greyhound Stadium in Taft and cruised to a decisive 55-0 victory. This week’s area playoff game will be played against the Thorndale Bulldogs (8-3, 4-1) Friday at 7 p. m. in Rockdale. The game was originally scheduled to be played Thursday night in Bastrop. The decision to move the game site and date was made Tuesday morning due to the high chance of thunderstorms in the area. Despite the scheduling change, Ganado head coach Josh Ervin said not much will change with his club’s preparation. “I think it’s going to be business as usual this week. We’ll have an extra day to get ready, but we’ll have the same approach,” coach Ervin said. Last week, Indians senior Austen Peña piled up 211 all-purpose yards and scored six touchdowns for Ganado. He rushed for 82 yards on six carries and hauled in five receptions for 129 yards. Peña is a wide receiver by trade who has filled in at running back when needed this season. It is the first year Peña has ever had any varsity snaps at the running back position. “It just speaks to his leadership qualities to learn a new position so quickly. He’s always ready to produce no matter where he lines up. He can even line up at quarterback, too,” coach Ervin said. Another standout performer for Ganado’s offense last week was sophomore quarterback Landyn Arriaga. He completed 9-of-12 passes for 190 yards and two scores and also rushed for a team-high 139 yards on 11 carries and two more touchdowns. Freshman defensive lineman Kole Bures also made his presence felt on the defensive side of the ball. Bures produced two sacks for a Ganado defense that allowed just 114 yards of total offense. “Kole is a very good athlete that can get off the ball very quickly and make plays,” coach Ervin said. One of Ganado’s standout performers along the offensive line is freshman starting left tackle Connor Todish. Coach Ervin believes Todish is very coachable and works hard to execute his blocks with proper technique. Todish’s contributions to the Indians offense has been a key factor in Ganado’s success. The freshman also plays as a reserve along the defensive line. “He’s taken this opportunity for extended playing time and just ran with it. He plays at a high level and improves every week. As for Thorndale, they come into the ballgame after last week’s 42-7 victory over Moody. It was Thorndale’s fifth straight win with their last loss coming on Oct. 10 at home against Mason. During the regular season, the Bulldogs placed second to Mason in District 14. Thorndale has rushed for 1, 571 yards and scored 23 touchdowns on the ground this year. Coach Ervin said it will take a disciplined defensive effort to contain the potent Thorndale rushing attack. “We are going to have to read our keys and our eyes in the backfield. They have a quick group of running backs that can make people miss,” coach Ervin said. “They execute on offense very well and their quarterback is a very accurate passer.”.

Trump, Polling, and the Fourth Wall – Liberty Nation News

A conundrum sits in the middle of President Donald Trump’s polling numbers. On the one hand, verifiable data show that both the economy and international trade with the United States are up, and that illegal border crossings and crime are down. On the other hand, the president’s approval ratings in each of the sectors are plummeting. Certainly, part of the paradox could come from media spin or poor messaging, but perhaps the real issue is that Trump has done something no other politician has done before: broken the fourth wall. Expectations and Experience To quote the renowned punk band The Jam, “the public gets what the public wants.” Over the years, electorates in almost all Western nations have created a relatively consistent model of what a politician is and can do. So when an unconventional candidate comes along, he or she may be described as shattering a “glass ceiling” – moving beyond the staid, steady, and unexpected. The glass ceiling was impervious to two major political stars in recent history. Hillary Clinton was immensely “qualified” to be president and yet was, to many, an entirely unlikable figure, and denigrating a significant chunk of the voting public as “deplorables” did her no favors. Similarly, former Vice President Kamala Harris was mostly held back from office because of her inability to communicate effectively and her cowardice in dealing with any media not in her camp. Their gender, perhaps common sensically, did not blind the electorate to their weaknesses. When Trump won the presidency in 2016, he was a wrecking ball to the known world of politics. When he won again in 2024, he became precision detonation. Why then do his approval ratings not match the enthusiasm level with which he was elected? Pulling Back the Curtain on Trump Steady, deliberative, and cool-headed are qualities that have been lauded in any politician’s campaign ads. Successful presidents are known for presenting clear and well-laid plans to satisfy the voters who look to them for steadfast and unwavering leadership. Trump, in this aspect as well as others, is notably different. What the public sees from the commander-in-chief is often the thought process involved. Instead of engaging in closed-door confabs or, God forbid, policy focus groups, the president tells the public directly where he is in his thinking – at the current time. In the theater world, breaking character and speaking directly to the audience is a bold move that fails more often than it succeeds; they don’t call it “breaking” the fourth wall without reason. And yet when done well, it creates something quite special. Consider Ferris Bueller’s interactions with the audience, or William Goldman’s immensely popular novel The Princess Bride, which acts as a book within a book. When Trump says he is considering military action against Venezuela’s government, this shouldn’t be understood as he has met with his generals and determined how best to strike – but rather that an incursion is one of a number of possibilities. Is such public revelation a prudent practice? Well, that depends on who has tickets to the opening night. Warnings and Wish Lists The American public hears Trump’s ideas come and go, as he provides unprecedented access to his thought processes. Certainly, such unfiltered openness and transparency is quite a difference from the previous administration, marked by an elusive president and befuddled communications from his team. Instead of operating in the traditional DC manner – through leaks and veiled ministerial policy hints – Trump has taken it upon himself to keep everyone guessing while inviting the American people along for the ride. But also looking on are the likes of Venezuelan President Nicholas Maduro, Chinese President Xi Jinping, and other leaders both outside and inside the United States who seemingly never quite know how to deal with Trump. This president has made an art form of strategic ambiguity. Now that the political Fourth Wall has been broken, however, will such insights become the new expectation of a public so used to secrecy and top-down exposure?

Ripple CTO Proposes Two-Tier Consensus to Make XRPL Staking Safe

A new proposal from Ripple’s Chief Technology Officer, David Schwartz, could fundamentally reshape how the XRP Ledger (XRPL) operates. Schwartz revealed a concept for a two-tier staking system in a public discussion on November 19, which aims to introduce staking rewards while preventing the centralization of power. A Novel Approach to Network Security The conversation began when XRP commentator WrathofKahneman raised concerns that staking would structurally validate Ripple’s already significant influence over the ledger, given that the company holds the largest supply of its native XRP token. Schwartz responded with a preliminary solution, designed to leave the policing of staked funds to individual validators. Furthermore, he framed slashing, the penalizing of misbehaving validators, as a last resort rather than the main enforcement tool. However, he acknowledged that this approach could lead to validators only accepting stakes from their “friends,” thereby creating new risks related to centralization. To tackle that, Schwartz outlined a two-layer model based on a new governance token. Anyone could create such a token, which he stressed is meant to be “worthless” with rules to keep its circulation limited so it cannot gain any economic value. Holders of that token would collectively manage the validator list, replacing the Unique Node List (UNL) with a self-governing system. In case the holders misbehave or collude, participants could “fork by governance,” essentially spinning up a new token and pointing their servers at it. Schwartz likened this approach to nuclear deterrence, which would be effective mostly because it is too painful to actually use, especially in a network with stablecoins, which cannot be easily forked. Some, like X user MiT@G0, called XRPL staking a “bizarre idea,” warning that a deflationary fee model and validator incentives could reignite “the old conflict of interest between users and validators.” Others reminded followers that amendment votes today focus on activation timing, with nodes still choosing which software to run locally. XRP Market Pressure While the technical discussion unfolds, XRP has hit a difficult patch in the market, with data obtained from CoinGecko at the time of this writing showing the token trading around $2. 15, down roughly 10% over the past week. Recent Glassnode data also revealed that only 58. 5% of the XRP supply is currently in profit, the lowest level in a year, indicating a top-heavy market where many recent buyers are facing losses.

Jared Goff takes the blame for a bad game from Amon-Ra St. Brown

There have been 58 games this season in which a receiver has been thrown at least 12 passes. Only once has that player caught fewer than three passes: Amon-Ra St. Brown on Sunday night in Philadelphia. St. Brown’s stat line of just two catches on 12 targets was ugly, but Lions quarterback Jared Goff said on 97. 1 The Ticket that St. Brown didn’t have an off night. Goff says he’s the one who was off. “I don’t think anything feels off, except for this past week I was off trying to get him the ball,” Goff said. “He’s playing well. I’ve got to find ways to get it to him in space and be more accurate in those instances. I have been in my career so it’s not something I’m worried about. Last week was a little bit off and prior to that I don’t think there’s been any issue.” Goff finished the game 14-for-37, for a career-low completion rate of 37. 8 percent. Even aside from the 10 incompletions to St. Brown, Goff was far less accurate than the Lions expect him to be. It was a bad night for a lot of players on the Lions’ offense, but Goff knows the blame ultimately falls on the quarterback.

8 Christmas Decor Trends That Will Be Everywhere in 2025

With every holiday season come new Christmas decor trends. Whether it’s an unexpected color scheme, a new ornament style, or the comeback of nostalgic classics, there’s always a fun new way to deck the halls. To get the pulse on this year’s biggest holiday decor trends, we tapped experts from the holiday decor, floral, and interior design industries to tell us what they’re seeing and loving. This year is shaping up to be all about a return to classic decor, embracing natural greenery, and setting a cozy atmosphere with moody color schemes. To give your home a festive refresh, here are the seven Christmas decor trends experts say will define this holiday season. 1. A Return to Classic Decor A return to classics is one of the biggest trends this holiday season. “Decorations such as faux candles to adorn a tree, full wreaths, poinsettias and berries, nutcrackers, and red and green accents all give that nostalgic holiday feeling,” says Shelby Waag, seasonal decor expert at Grandin Road. To really play up the nostalgia, the seasonal decor expert suggests incorporating vintage lighting. “There’s a nod to the olden days with vintage-inspired lights, whether on a tree, wreath, garland, or standalone strands,” she says. 2. A Mix of New, Repurposed, and Secondhand If you’re wondering whether you have to overhaul your entire Christmas decor collection to stay on trend this season, experts say the answer is a resounding no. “The best way to incorporate trends into your home is to echo the style of what you already have,” says designer Jessica Whitley. There are simple ways you can freshen up your home for Christmas and add to your collection of decorations without starting from scratch. “Decorating is a marathon, not a sprint, so you want to think of your holiday decor as a collection you acquire throughout the years, adding in new pieces to keep it fresh, and layering over your festive staples,” Waag says. 3. Statement Bows “Bows are also big this year, showing up in different ways to decorate all areas of the home,” Waag shares. Holiday bows are a classic look for Christmas, but a fun way to give them an updated feel is to play with their scale, the ribbon material, and colors. Go with oversized bows for a touch of holiday drama, or take a nostalgic approach with thin velvet bows in a variety of warm tones such as copper, espresso, or plum. 4. Moody Colors, Neutrals, and Soft Metallics Deep plums and rich espresso hues are putting a moody spin on Christmas color schemes this year. “Those colors bring timeless, warm feelings to a room without being overly fussy,” Whitley says. Floral designer Kaylyn Hewitt Garceau believes rich cranberry reds, white and creamy neutrals, and forest greens will remain timeless, though she suggests a chic update to the classics. “There’s room to incorporate modern twists with muted mauves and soft metallic accents that can be worked in through a vase or table decor,” Hewitt Garceau says. 5. Mixed Greenery Wreaths “Wreaths are getting a refresh this year with a focus on natural designs and mixed greenery textures,” Hewitt Garceau says. The designer shares that layering textures is a big Christmas wreath trend this holiday season, and suggests combining cedar, eucalyptus, and pine for a modern look that feels fresh and festive. “Many are also adding subtle accents like simple berries or even dried oranges for a pop of color,” she says. 6. Elevated Outdoor Decor This year, Hewitt Garceau says outdoor holiday decor is all about elevated simplicity. “We’re seeing a return to cohesive, natural arrangements that seamlessly blend in with what’s happening indoors,” the expert says. One way to achieve the look is to fill outdoor planters with layered greenery and add berry or pinecone accents for a natural finish. “The goal is to create warmth and welcome with something that feels fresh but is still beautifully composed,” she says. 7. Streamlined and Textured Christmas Centerpieces When it comes to floral centerpiece trends this holiday season, Hewitt Garceau says she’s seeing more love for single-focal designs that celebrate one standout bloom type that’s paired with fresh greenery for balance. “I recently did a tablescape using four different types of roses, with each type in one vase, lined them down a table, and it looked so lovely,” she shares. The floral designer suggests using simple, monochromatic clusters of blooms for a strong impact. “Texture is also key, so incorporating seasonal elements like pinecones, berries, or Anemones (a seasonal favorite) gives centerpieces a cozy, seasonal touch without feeling overly traditional,” Hewitt Garceau adds. 8. Simple Garlands and Trees.
