Wood scores 2 including winner in return from injury, lifting Blue Jackets to 4-3 win over Sabres

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — Miles Wood scored twice, including the overtime winner 2:53 into the extra period, rallying the Columbus Blue Jackets to a 4-3 victory over the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday night.

Zach Werenski and Yegor Chinakhov each recorded a goal and an assist as the Blue Jackets extended their winning streak on the road to four games. Jet Greaves made 35 saves, highlighted by a crucial stop on Jiri Kulich’s breakaway just 40 seconds into overtime, using his right pad.

Wood forced overtime by tipping in Chinakhov’s shot with 6:05 remaining in regulation. His two-goal performance was especially notable as it came during his return after missing five games due to a frightening injury to his left eye. Wood was injured while chasing a loose puck when Devils defenseman Dougie Hamilton’s stick rode up beneath Wood’s visor and struck his eye.

For Buffalo, Josh Doan, Ryan McLeod, and Josh Dunne—who scored his first NHL career goal—found the back of the net. The Sabres have improved to 4-1-2 in their past seven games after an 0-3 start. Goaltender Alex Lyon finished with 35 saves.

The game-winning goal originated from Isac Lundestrom, who set up the decisive play by reversing up the boards in the Buffalo zone and sending a cross-ice pass to a wide-open Werenski in the left circle. Werenski then threaded a pass to Wood, who redirected the puck over Lyon to secure the win.

Columbus overcame two separate one-goal deficits in the game. Their current four-game road winning streak marks their longest since a five-game spree from January 20 to February 12, 2022.

– Blue Jackets: Host the Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday night.

Bruins score three in second period to beat Islanders

BOSTON — David Pastrnak had a goal and an assist to help the Boston Bruins rally for a 5-2 victory over the New York Islanders on Tuesday night.

Pastrnak, Elias Lindholm, and Mikey Eyssimont scored during Boston’s second-period rally after the Bruins managed just four shots on goal in the opening period. Morgan Geekie added a power-play goal in the third, and Fraser Minten sealed the game with an empty-netter as Boston rebounded from a 7-2 loss at Ottawa on Monday night.

Charlie McAvoy contributed two assists, while Joonas Korpisalo made 33 saves for Boston, which earned its second win since starting the season 3-0.

For the Islanders, Bo Horvat had a goal and an assist. Kyle Palmieri also scored, and Ilya Sorokin finished with 17 saves. New York lost in regulation for the first time since dropping to 0-3 on October 13.

Horvat gave the Islanders an early lead, scoring just 1:08 into the first period for his sixth goal in six games. He then assisted on Palmieri’s one-timer at 4:52 of the first. The Islanders outshot the Bruins 10-4 in the opening period—a margin that could have been even wider if the Bruins hadn’t blocked seven shots.

The second period belonged to the Bruins. The Islanders handed Boston opportunities with a pair of early penalties, the second of which led to Lindholm’s power-play goal at 3:57. Pastrnak tied the game at 6:49, and Boston took its first lead just 59 seconds later when Eyssimont tipped a shot past Sorokin.

Up next for the Islanders: a visit to the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday.

Mike Macdonald Tips 275-Pounder to Fix Seahawks’ Run Game

Mike Macdonald knows the Seattle Seahawks need a boost in their running game, and he is referring to beefy fullback Robbie Ouzts, who is expected to play against the Washington Commanders in Week 9. Ouzts has missed the last four games due to an ankle injury, but Macdonald believes the blocking back’s return is “great. It wasn’t a long practice, but got some good reps in,” according to The Tacoma News Tribune’s Gregg Bell.

Having Ouzts back in the lineup will lead to a shift in how the Seahawks deploy personnel in the running game. As Macdonald pointed out, “We’ve majored in 12 personnel, 13 personnel. We’ll see how the game plan shakes out, but Robbie provides more two-back flexibility than probably we’ve had.” These new, heavier formations could unlock the Seahawks’ so far unfulfilled potential when running the ball.

### Seahawks Need Changes in the Running Game

Despite the breakaway talents of Kenneth Walker III and the rugged dependability of Zach Charbonnet, the Seahawks’ running game is not intimidating opponents. They rank eighth in the league in rushing attempts but are 30th in yards-per-carry average (3.7), according to Seahawks.com Senior Reporter John Boyle.

These numbers are not what one would expect given offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak’s expertise with the famed zone-stretch system. However, that staple play hasn’t been yielding much for Walker and company. “Teams are dedicated to stopping it — the Seahawks face loaded boxes at the highest rate in the league,” notes Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic.

In response, Kubiak is attempting to diversify the run game by incorporating more counter, gap, and straight-ahead power runs. These plays were used with mixed results during the 27-19 win over the Houston Texans in Week 7. As Dugar explained, “The pivot would then be to gash teams between the tackles, which the Seahawks attempted with a little bit of success against the Texans. But is that the best use of the personnel? They have a light, athletic offensive line, which is why a scheme based on running off the ball was supposed to pop.”

Another challenge is that the tight ends have not been physical enough to hold their blocks consistently, meaning the Seahawks need to get bigger along the line of scrimmage. This is where Robbie Ouzts comes in.

### Robbie Ouzts’ Return Boosts One-Dimensional Offense

Though only a rookie and a 2025 NFL draft fifth-round pick, Ouzts has already made a positive impact. For example, in Week 2 against the Pittsburgh Steelers, he helped Kenneth Walker rush for 105 yards by delivering a series of crushing blocks. NFL Network’s Brian Baldinger highlighted some of his best blocks, showcasing the difference a fullback the size of a defensive lineman can make.

Adding Ouzts provides the Seahawks with more power and physicality up front, putting some much-needed “oomph” into their rushing concepts. This could be the key to moving the ball more effectively on the ground and making the run game a more threatening part of Seattle’s offense.

Former WWE champion to replace Jon Moxley, Heel faction FINALLY implodes? – 3 major surprises that can happen on AEW Dynamite this Wednesday

After receiving mixed reviews for WrestleDream 2025, AEW has quickly shifted its focus to the upcoming pay-per-view, Full Gear 2025, which is less than a month away. The Jacksonville-based promotion has already started building momentum for Full Gear during recent episodes of Dynamite and Collision.

On the flagship show, the Women’s World Title match was confirmed for the upcoming PPV after champion Kris Statlander accepted Mercedes Mone’s challenge—originally issued at WrestleDream. Additionally, a major No. 1 Contenders’ match was scheduled to determine World Champion Hangman Page’s next challenger. This crucial match is set to take place on this week’s episode of Dynamite: Fright Night.

With Dynamite: Fright Night airing this Wednesday, AEW President Tony Khan is poised to take the next step in generating excitement for Full Gear. Fans can expect some intriguing twists and surprises on the show. Here’s a look at three potential surprises AEW might unveil on Dynamite: Fright Night.

### #3. Claudio Castagnoli Betrays Jon Moxley on AEW Dynamite: Fright Night

Jon Moxley has been facing a turbulent stretch in AEW lately. The Purveyor of Violence’s recent track record in big matches has been less than stellar—from losing the World Championship to Hangman Page, to falling in the Lights Out Steel Cage match at Forbidden Door against Will Ospreay’s team, and more recently, losing to arch-nemesis Darby Allin in an “I-Quit” match at WrestleDream 2025.

Given these setbacks, Moxley’s faction, the Death Riders, could hold a vote of no confidence in their leader during Dynamite. Leading this possible coup is former WWE United States Champion and multi-time WWE Tag Team Champion, Claudio Castagnoli (formerly Cesaro). As the Swiss Superstar and the group’s most experienced member after Moxley, Claudio might convince the faction to abandon the One True King, potentially taking over leadership of the Death Riders.

### #2. The Don Callis Family Could Implode

Tensions within the Don Callis Family have been building for some time, particularly between Konosuke Takeshita and Unified Champion Kazuchika Okada. Their dynamic took a hit after the duo failed to capture the AEW World Tag Team Championships against Brodido at WrestleDream 2025. During that match, Okada accidentally struck Takeshita, showing no remorse; instead, he grinned at the reigning IWGP World Heavyweight Champion.

Takeshita did not take this lightly and attempted to confront Okada on last week’s Dynamite, but was stopped by Don Callis and AEW TNT Champion Kyle Fletcher. In response to these internal frictions, Don Callis has called for a family summit on this week’s Dynamite: Fright Night.

While this summit aims to resolve internal disputes, it could very well backfire. The massive egos of both Takeshita and Okada might spiral out of control, causing the faction to implode. This could result in the formation of rival subgroups within the family or even result in the eviction of one of the two stars.

### #1. Cedric Alexander Joins the Hurt Syndicate

WWE released Cedric Alexander in February of this year. Although he signed with TNA shortly after, speculation has swirled among fans that the 36-year-old could reunite with his former Hurt Business allies—MVP, Bobby Lashley, and Shelton Benjamin—now rebranded as the Hurt Syndicate in AEW.

With Cedric’s contract set to expire soon, these rumors may finally come to fruition this week. Tony Khan is expected to sign Cedric Alexander and debut him on Dynamite: Fright Night.

This week’s Dynamite: Fright Night also features a pivotal four-way match where Bobby Lashley of the Hurt Syndicate will face Samoa Joe, Ricochet, and Hook for a chance to become the No. 1 Contender for Hangman Page’s AEW World Championship.

As the match unfolds, interference from the allies of each competitor is highly likely. Amid the chaos, Cedric’s debut could play a critical role in helping Lashley secure the No. 1 Contender spot—marking a major win for the Hurt Syndicate and their newest member.

With Dynamite: Fright Night just around the corner, AEW fans have much to look forward to as the promotion ramps up toward Full Gear 2025. Whether it’s shocking betrayals, faction drama, or surprise debuts, this week’s show promises to deliver plenty of excitement.

Joe Torre Documentary Directed by John Turturro in Production

Joe Torre, the longstanding Major League Baseball player, manager, and executive, takes center stage in a new documentary directed by John Turturro and produced by Motto Pictures. The film, titled *Joe Torre*, chronicles the remarkable career of this iconic figure, who managed the New York Yankees to four World Series championships—and achieved much more along the way.

Torre remains the only person in MLB history to have recorded 2,000 hits as a player and 2,000 wins as a manager, a testament to his extraordinary dual success in the sport.

“Joe Torre’s lifelong journey to the World Series is full of ups and downs, twists and turns, through a changing landscape and turbulent times. There’s something deeply human about Joe Torre’s quiet strength,” said Turturro in a statement. “In a time when men in sports hid their emotions behind toughness, Joe defied convention. His strength comes from compassion, his victories from understanding people.”

Currently in production, the documentary explores Torre’s life story—from a nervous child with an abusive father to a professional baseball player who won the league’s Most Valuable Player award (MVP) in 1971, and later to a manager who was fired three times before taking on his role with the Yankees.

Torre played in 4,272 games as a player and experienced a career as a manager before finally leading the Yankees to a World Series victory against the Atlanta Braves.

“It’s hard to imagine that a nervous Brooklyn kid who had low self-esteem could go on a journey like mine across more than 60 years,” Torre reflected in a statement. “I once didn’t think I was going anywhere. But baseball gave me a place to hide and ultimately the opportunity to find things in myself that I never knew were there. I am grateful that John Turturro, who witnessed the hometown dream I’ve been fortunate enough to live, is joining me to look back and tell the story in a personal way.”

Stay tuned for more updates on this compelling documentary that celebrates the life and legacy of one of baseball’s most respected figures.

46-year-old star responds to claim she got fired from AEW for trying to poach talent to WWE

A 46-year-old wrestling personality, Sarah Stock, was recently accused by a social media user of attempting to convince AEW performers to jump ship to WWE. The Canadian star has since disputed the claim.

Stock began her journey inside the squared circle back in 2002. Over the next several years, she performed across a variety of promotions including AAA, Shimmer, CMLL, and TNA. She also wrestled for JDStar and World Wonder Ring Stardom in Japan.

In 2023, Sarah was introduced as one of AEW’s new coaches and producers. However, she was released by the Tony Khan-led promotion this past April.

Sarah recently made headlines when she voiced her criticism of a brutal spot from Jon Moxley’s “I Quit” match against Darby Allin at WrestleDream 2025. The former AEW World Champion forcefully dipped the face-painted star’s head into an aquarium full of water in a bid to weaken him. Following this, Stock found herself embroiled in a series of quarrels with dissenting voices on social media. At one point, she even defended former WWE chairman Vince McMahon despite the numerous allegations against him.

In response to a social media claim that she was fired by AEW for encouraging its talent to cross over to WWE, Sarah took to X/Twitter to clarify her past job title and dispute the accusation. She wrote:
“If you haven’t learned that you’re replicating the pattern of conformity, you may find yourself stuck in the loop forever.”

Meanwhile, WWE legend Matt Hardy also reacted to Jon Moxley’s spot at AEW WrestleDream. While Sarah Stock explicitly expressed her disapproval of Moxley dunking Darby Allin’s head under water during their match, Hardy offered a less severe assessment.

On a recent edition of his Extreme Life podcast, Matt insisted that while the spot was not the best he had seen on television, it was no more problematic than many other similarly violent spots performed across wrestling promotions.

“I saw the spot and by no means do I think that this is the worst thing that [All Elite Wrestling] has ever done. Sure, it’s not the greatest thing I’ve seen on TV but I mean you can say that from TNA, you can say that from WWE. There’ve been incidents that have happened across all these places where there’ve been controversial things that kids should not try at home,” said Matt.

It remains to be seen what lies next in Darby Allin’s ongoing blood feud with Jon Moxley on All Elite programming.

Scherzer doesn’t argue with Schneider, leaves World Series Game 3 with lead that bullpen wastes

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Max Scherzer didn’t argue this time.

John Schneider pointed to Toronto’s bullpen before crossing the foul line on the way to the mound, and the 41-year-old pitcher nodded in agreement as his manager arrived. Scherzer left World Series Game 3 with a 4-2 lead over the Los Angeles Dodgers after 4 1/3 innings Monday night, becoming the oldest Series starting pitcher since 45-year-old Jamie Moyer in 2008.

Still, Scherzer appeared disappointed with himself for allowing Kiké Hernández’s leadoff single in the fifth inning. After the Dodgers tied the score against reliever Mason Fluharty, Scherzer was shouting, seemingly at himself, in Toronto’s dugout.

He could get another chance to face the Dodgers, as Scherzer is lined up to start a potential Game 7 on Saturday.

A three-time Cy Young Award winner, “Mad Max” had lived up to his nickname earlier this postseason. He famously told Schneider in profane terms to leave him in Game 4 of the American League Championship Series against Seattle on Oct. 16, when the manager visited the mound with two outs and a runner on in the fifth inning.

On Monday, Scherzer struck out Randy Arozarena and recorded two outs in the sixth inning, earning his first postseason win since the 2019 World Series opener for Washington against Houston.

“I’m going to try to avoid any mound visits with Max tomorrow,” Schneider said with a smile on Sunday.

Scherzer was back at Dodger Stadium, where the eight-time All-Star spent the 2021 season with Los Angeles. He disappointed Dodgers fans then when he was scratched from NLCS Game 6 against Atlanta due to arm fatigue, and Los Angeles was eliminated.

Becoming the first pitcher to take the mound for four different teams in the World Series, Scherzer was amped up. He averaged 94.8 mph with 37 four-seam fastballs — his highest since Sept. 19, 2022, when he pitched six perfect innings for the New York Mets to beat Milwaukee for his 200th win.

Hernández, who was in a 1-for-16 slump, singled to start the fifth on a 1-2 fastball at the top of the strike zone. Scherzer retired Andy Pages on a flyout, bringing up Shohei Ohtani, who had doubled leading off the game and hit a solo home run in the third on a full-count fastball.

Schneider signaled to his bullpen before even reaching the foul line, and as he approached the mound, Scherzer nodded in understanding.

Ohtani hit an opposite-field double off Fluharty and scored on Freddie Freeman’s two-out single, tying the score 4-4.

Overall, Scherzer allowed three runs and five hits with three strikeouts and a walk. He also gave up a solo homer to Teoscar Hernández on a hanging slider to start the second inning.

Chuba Hubbard is aware his role might change, but his approach won’t

Rico Dowdle earned the starting job while Chuba Hubbard was injured, totaling 472 yards from scrimmage in the two games Hubbard missed. Despite Dowdle’s strong performance, the Panthers returned Hubbard to the starting lineup on Sunday.

In the loss to the Bills, Hubbard carried the ball 12 times for 34 yards and scored a touchdown, while Dowdle ran eight times for 54 yards. With both backs contributing, the Panthers now can’t ignore the numbers. Coach Dave Canales acknowledged the obvious on Monday: Dowdle has the hot hand.

Hubbard understands the situation and is ready for whatever role comes his way. “My main focus is never solely about me. It’s always about the team and winning games,” he said.

Although his role might change, Hubbard’s approach won’t. “To be honest, I mean, you guys have obviously known me for the last four or five years. I’m someone who prides myself on work, work, work, work,” Hubbard explained. “Everything I do, I’m a man of faith, a follower of Christ, and whatever my journey comes with, I take the good and the bad.”

He continued, “In moments like this, I just continue to work. I’ve been through worse days and worse things, and people have scrutinized me for stuff all five years I’ve been here. But one thing is, I just pride myself on my work, like I said, and also just helping us get wins here. So, I do whatever it takes and just continue with that mindset.”

This season, Hubbard has totaled 94 touches for 400 yards and three touchdowns in six games. As the Panthers navigate their backfield options, Hubbard’s team-first mentality remains clear.

Baylor football offensive line coach no longer with team after 4-4 start

After Baylor’s 41-20 loss to Cincinnati, a change has been made to the Bears’ coaching staff. ESPN’s Pete Thamel initially reported this morning that Baylor offensive line coach Mason Miller “is no longer with the program.” Bears head coach Dave Aranda confirmed Thamel’s report, describing the departure as a “personal matter.”

Mason Miller was hired by Aranda before last season. Prior to joining Baylor, Miller served as the offensive coordinator and tight ends coach at FCS Tarleton State in 2023, following three years as the offensive line coach at Mississippi State. Miller worked under the late Mike Leach for five years at Washington State and Mississippi State. Notably, Aranda himself was a graduate assistant under Leach in the early 2000s.

Aranda brought Miller to Baylor to succeed Eric Mateos, who had attracted interest from Georgia two years before eventually becoming the Arkansas offensive line coach. Since Aranda was hired by Baylor in 2020, Miller was the third offensive line coach to serve under him. Joe Wickline, who was a Baylor assistant for Dave Roberts in 1997 and 1998, returned to Waco as Aranda’s first O-line coach in his inaugural season as Bears head coach.

Including Saturday’s loss, Aranda’s overall record at Baylor stands at 35-34 with a 23-27 mark in Big 12 conference play. His crowning achievement remains his second season, which featured a 12-2 record, a Big 12 title, and a Sugar Bowl victory. Since that standout campaign, however, Aranda’s record has slipped to 21-25 overall and 14-18 in conference games.

The Bears rebounded from back-to-back losing seasons with an 8-5 record in 2024, which helped secure Aranda’s job. They currently hold a 4-4 record heading into the final month of the regular season.

Baylor’s remaining schedule includes one road game and three home matchups. After a trip to Tucson for the November 22 contest against Arizona, the Bears will host UCF on Saturday, followed by Utah after the bye week. The regular season will conclude at McLane Stadium with a game against Houston.

Last season, Baylor lost to Utah, defeated Houston, and did not face UCF or Arizona.

UCF, coming off a bye week, recently blew out West Virginia 45-13. Saturday’s game between the Knights and Bears is scheduled to kick off at approximately 11 a.m. CT.
