Here are the latest forecast highlights from the National Weather Service offices across Michigan: A dangerous early-season winter storm is producing blizzard conditions across Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and northern Lower Michigan, with additional snowfall of 12 to 18 inches expected through Thursday evening in the hardest-hit areas. Strong winds gusting to 50 mph combined with heavy snow are creating whiteout conditions and making travel extremely hazardous. Blizzard Warnings remain in effect for lakeshore counties of the western and north-central Upper Peninsula until Thursday evening, where snowfall rates of one inch per hour or more are combining with wind gusts greater than 45 mph to drastically reduce visibility. The Keweenaw, Ontonagon, Gogebic counties and the Michigamme Highlands of Baraga and Marquette counties north of U. S. 41 are expected to receive the heaviest accumulations. Winter Storm Warnings cover much of northern Lower Michigan, where 6 to 12 inches of snow is forecast through Friday, with localized amounts of 18 to 24 inches possible from southern Antrim to western Crawford County. The storm system, currently centered over the eastern Upper Peninsula, will continue moving northeast into Canada through Thursday. Behind the system, intense lake effect snow bands will develop Thursday morning and settle in by Thursday afternoon, particularly affecting areas from Traverse Bay southeast across the length of northern Michigan down to Saginaw Bay. The most dominant band appears focused on the I-75 and U. S. 131 corridors, where near-zero visibility under heavy bands will likely create rapidly changing and dangerous travel conditions. Significant impacts on I-75 may extend from Roscommon and West Branch north to Waters, while the U. S. 131 corridor between Elmira and Fife Lake is of particular concern on Thanksgiving Day. Strong winds will continue to be a major factor through Thursday morning, with gusts of 35 to 50 mph across much of the state. High Wind Warnings are in effect for lakeshore areas of western Lower Michigan until 7 a. m. Thursday, where gusts could reach 60 mph. Wind Advisories cover the remainder of Lower Michigan through early Thursday morning. The combination of heavy snow and strong winds may cause downed limbs and trees, leading to localized power outages. Wind chills will drop into the teens Thursday morning and remain in the low to mid 20s during the afternoon. On Lake Superior, Storm Warnings continue until midnight Wednesday for offshore waters from Keweenaw Bay to Grand Marais, where wind gusts of 57 mph and waves of 15 to 20 feet are occurring. Gale Warnings remain in effect for all Lake Superior waters through Thursday night, with waves persisting at 12 to 18 feet in the eastern half of the lake through Thursday evening. Minor lakeshore flooding and beach erosion are possible along the Lake Superior shoreline through Thursday. On Lake Michigan, Storm Warnings are in effect until 1 a. m. Thursday for nearshore waters, where wind gusts around 60 mph and waves of 14 to 20 feet are expected this evening. Lake effect snow will gradually diminish Friday as the storm system pulls farther away and surface high pressure briefly moves over the region. However, attention will quickly turn to another winter system approaching for the weekend.

Campbell’s fires executive who was recorded saying company’s products are for ‘poor people’
The Campbell’s Co. said Wednesday it has fired an executive who was recorded making racist comments and mocking the company’s products and customers. Martin Bally, a vice president in Campbell’s information security department, was named in a lawsuit filed last week by Robert Garza, a former Campbell’s employee who said he was fired Jan. 30 after he reported Bally’s comments to a supervisor. The lawsuit was filed in Michigan, where both Garza and Bally live. Campbell’s is based in Camden, New Jersey. In the lawsuit, Garza claimed he met with Bally in November 2024 to discuss his salary. During the meeting, which Garza allegedly recorded, Bally described Campbell’s as “highly process(ed) food” and said it was for “poor people.” Garza claimed in the lawsuit that Bally made racist remarks about Indian workers, whom he called “idiots.” Garza said Bally also told him that he often went to work high after consuming marijuana edibles. Campbell’s said Wednesday it first learned of Garza’s lawsuit last week. After listening to portions of the recording, Campbell’s said it believed the voice was Bally’s. Bally was fired Tuesday. “The comments were vulgar, offensive and false, and we apologize for the hurt they have caused,” the company said in a statement. “This behavior does not reflect our values and the culture of our company, and we will not tolerate that kind of language under any circumstances.” Garza’s attorney didn’t respond when The Associated Press asked for a copy of the audio recording. But according to Local 4 news in Detroit, which interviewed Garza and played a portion of the recording on air, Bally said Campbell’s products were unhealthy during his expletive-filled rant. “Bioengineered meat. I don’t want to eat a piece of chicken that came from a 3D printer,” Bally said. Campbell’s defended its chicken Wednesday, saying it comes from long-trusted U. S. suppliers, is raised without antibiotics and meets high quality standards. “The comments heard on the recording about our food are not only inaccurate, they are patently absurd,” Campbell’s said. Larry Kopp, the chairman and founder of The TASC Group, a strategic communications and public relations company, said Campbell’s should have fired Bally and reached a settlement with Garza as soon as it learned of the incident. “If they had settled they would not be in this mess,” Kopp said. “Recordings like these are devastating and should never see the light of day.” Garza is seeking monetary damages from Campbell’s, Bally and from his former manager, J. D. Aupperle. Garza said he told Aupperle about the conversation with Bally shortly before he was fired. Campbell’s said Wednesday that Aupperle remains employed by the company.

US Nasdaq, Germany’s Deutsche Boerse lead lobby against relaxed SEC crypto regulation
In a letter published on the SEC’s website and dated November 21, the World Federation of Exchanges (WFE), whose members include Nasdaq and Deutsche Boerse, stated that the regulator must avoid allowing crypto companies to “bypass regulatory principles that have safeguarded markets for decades.” WFE chief executive Nandini Sukumar stated that exempting unregistered crypto firms would risk allowing products that look like equities to be offered without the protections that accompany real stock ownership. The body representing exchanges voicing its concerns comes as the SEC considers whether to issue a form of “innovation exemption” that would allow crypto companies to offer blockchain-based tokens representing exposure to listed stocks, instruments that would be sold to US retail investors without the platforms registering as broker-dealers. This proposal, which is supported by several crypto platforms, is being considered by SEC chair Paul Atkins, highlighting the agency’s recalibrated approach to digital assets under the Trump administration. The tokenization debate divides traditional and crypto finance This is not the first time the WFE has raised concerns about tokenized equities. In August, it wrote to regulators in the U. S., Europe, and Asia, urging a crackdown on unlicensed platforms offering tokenized stocks, warning of investor-protection issues and reputational risks for listed companies whose names are used without consent. It went further to ask that regulators apply the same rules used on securities to tokenized assets. Despite the body’s concerns, interest in tokenization continues to grow across the financial sector. Large banks, asset managers, and trading venues have begun exploring blockchain-based settlement and token-form assets as part of efforts to modernize financial infrastructure. The trend has gained more traction this year as crypto-native platforms seek direct access to the US equities market, while traditional exchanges experiment with on-chain settlement models. Nasdaq’s push for regulated tokenized securities. Nasdaq, one of the WFE’s most prominent members, has simultaneously been pushing for a regulated path toward tokenization. In September, it submitted a formal rule-change proposal that would allow the exchange to list and trade stocks in tokenized form, assigning the digital instruments the same regulatory treatment, including rights and CUSIP identification, as conventional shares. However, Ondo Finance, a blockchain startup offering financial market solutions, called for delays until Nasdaq provides further details on how trades in tokenized form would be processed through the Depository Trust Company, which operates the core plumbing of US securities settlement. Within the WFE itself, members acknowledge tokenization’s potential. The letter describes blockchain-based equity instruments as a “natural evolution in capital markets.” However, many exchanges argue that innovation must occur within the existing regulatory framework rather than through exemptions granted to unlicensed crypto platforms. James Auliffe, head of the WFE’s technology working group, said equity markets are already “very, very efficient,” and that proponents of moving trading onto blockchains still need to prove the benefits outweigh the costs. High stakes for regulators and markets The SEC’s decision on the matter will shape the future of how equities are traded and accessed in the US. Allowing tokenized stocks to be offered without conventional broker-dealer oversight could potentially enable firms outside the traditional financial system to compete directly with exchanges and brokers that face far stricter compliance obligations. Investor advocates fear that retail traders may not understand the difference between owning a token linked to a stock and holding the real equity itself. New ramp meters along Highway 101 in Sonoma and Marin counties to be activated Tuesday
New Highway 101 ramp meters in Sonoma and Marin counties will be activated starting Tuesday to help manage traffic flow, according to Caltrans. Caltrans will turn on seven meters, which are traffic signals at onramps, in Sonoma County and five in Marin County in both northbound and southbound directions, the agency said in a Wednesday news release. All of the Sonoma County meters and both Marin County northbound meters will be switched on Tuesday. Three southbound Marin County meters, which are located along the Marin-Sonoma Narrows project area, will be turned on after some additional drainage and electrical work is completed, likely in early 2026, Caltrans spokesperson Matt O’Donnell said in an email Wednesday. The meters located in Petaluma, Novato, Sausalito and Mill Valley will be active at varying hours Monday through Friday. Signs will be placed ahead of the meters, letting drivers know of the new traffic signals. In Sonoma County, the meters will be on from 6 to 10 a. m. and 3 to 7 p. m. In Marin County, those leading onto the northbound lanes will be active from 2 to 7 p. m. and the meters by the southbound lanes will be on 5 to 11 a. m. The goal of the new meters is to make the highway more efficient and safe by creating room between vehicles and reducing traffic congestion and delays, the release said. Meters will be placed along additional onramps as funding becomes available.
