Russian police arrest crypto exchange robber armed with fake grenade
Russian authorities have detained a young man who tried to rob a cryptocurrency exchange by threatening its staff with smoke and airsoft grenades. The attack comes amid rising numbers of criminal cases targeting crypto holdings and their owners, including through kidnappings and killings. Russian police arrest crypto robber in St. Petersburg A resident of Russia’s Leningrad Region has been arrested in St. Petersburg after attempting to rob a crypto exchange office at an apartment hotel. Local police said the attack took place late on Saturday, in the building located on Khersonskaya Street of the country’s second-largest city. The crypto robbery was prevented by officers who arrived at the scene after receiving a report about a noisy conflict that evening. The 21-year-old attacker used strikeball and smoke grenades, the regional department of the interior ministry detailed in a press release, quoted by Fontanka. ru, Gazeta. ru and other Russian media on Sunday. The man entered the office of the coin exchange service, detonated two of the airsoft grenades, and ignited the smoke bomb. Then, he demanded that the employees of the crypto trading platform transfer its cryptocurrency funds to a wallet of his own. The failed robber was apprehended with the help of servicemen from Russia’s National Guard, who came to the aid of the policemen. Bomb disposal specialists who inspected the area confirmed that the devices used in the attack were in fact airsoft replicas that create a lot of noise and smoke without causing serious damage. Another two of those were seized from the perpetrator. Russian authorities have opened a criminal investigation into the attempted robbery and a decision on whether the man should remain in pretrial detention is under consideration. Crimes targeting cryptocurrency are on the rise in Russia Cases in which criminals try to take hold of victims’ cryptocurrency have been growing in number over the past months and years. Russian crypto owners are increasingly facing hybrid attacks, where wallet hacks are accompanied by theft and threats of physical violence, the “Delovoy Peterburg” publication noted in a recent report, highlighting a surge in kidnappings. Perhaps the most remarkable example of this trend lately was the kidnapping of Russian crypto businessman and alleged scammer Roman Novak this past October. Believed to be a millionaire in cryptocurrency, Novak was abducted with his wife in Dubai. The couple was tortured and murdered by other Russians who apparently wanted to gain access to his wallet. There have been other, lower-profile cases. Two men were sentenced to eight years in prison this month for attacking a crypto blogger Ryazan and making him transfer over $160,000 worth of cryptocurrency to their wallets. The frequency of such crimes prompted Russian officials to take steps to legalize the seizure of digital assets within criminal proceedings, either for the state or to return them to their owners. In mid-November, the lower house of Russian parliament, the State Duma, adopted on second reading a bill designed to regulate the process. The draft law, which was submitted by the government earlier this year, establishes a mechanism for this type of confiscation. It also allows Russian law enforcement to seek assistance from foreign crypto platforms such as exchanges, as reported by Cryptopolitan. Also, this month, the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Moscow revealed that fake crypto investment offers rank among the favorite baits employed by Russian fraudsters this year. England Star Tom Curry Branded a ‘Bully’ After Argentina Coach Says He Was Shoved Post-Match
England’s nail-biting 27-23 victory over Argentina on Sunday, 23 November, was thrown into turmoil after flanker Tom Curry was sensationally accused of being a ‘bully’ following a nasty clash that left Juan Cruz Mallia with a serious knee injury. Curry, whose late and high-impact tackle on Mallia triggered an on-field scuffle and forced the Argentina full-back off with a suspected ACL tear, then allegedly confronted and shoved Pumas head coach Felipe Contepomi in the tunnel after the match. Contepomi relayed the explosive encounter during a fiery post-match media scrum, sending shockwaves through the rugby community. Contepomi Calls Curry a ‘Bully’ According to Contepomi, Curry tried to approach one of Argentina’s staff members after the final whistle, only to be blocked by the coaching team who were still furious about the Mallia incident. ‘I was standing there and (Curry) was coming and wanted to say hi to one of our coaches, but we said no because we were upset,’ Contepomi recalled. ‘We said “mate, you broke his knee”, and he said “f*** off” and pushed me like that.’ The Argentina boss claimed Curry’s behaviour was ‘bullyish’, insisting that a player responsible for such a dangerous hit should have shown at least a degree of remorse. ‘After breaking someone’s knee, I think you need to be humble enough to say “sorry, I did something wrong” but he went the opposite way,’ Contepomi said. ‘Maybe it is his way of being a bully.’ Fans Weigh In: ‘Not a Rugby Incident’, ‘Pathetic Whinging’, ‘Returning the Favour?’ Social media erupted as fans clashed over whether Curry was a reckless aggressor or the target of an overblown post-match rant. Rugby page SCRUMMA argued that Curry may have been paying Argentina back for earlier rough play. @SCRUMMA22: ‘Would be nice if he addressed his own team’s actions before blaming someone else. Bear in mind Curry was watching on the bench for most of the game, he saw the numerous late shots on Ford. He was returning the favour?’ Others felt Contepomi’s remarks were embarrassing. @RugbyEng: ‘Oh no, no, no Felipe. Embarrassing yourself with this post-game whinging. As the esteemed referee Nigel Owens once said, “this isn’t soccer”. A hugely competitive game and this rather pathetic name-calling about an opponent after the game is a sad reflection on him, not Curry.’ But not all England fans backed Curry. User @charl32647 posted: ‘As an England supporter it wasn’t great that Curry’s foul play resulted in injury to a player that may put him out for a few months. It was not a rugby incident but a very late hit.’ The debate highlighted just how divisive Curry has become, with some defending his physical approach and others accusing him of recklessness. Curry’s Tackle That Incensed Argentina The controversial late tackle on Mallia sparked a confrontation between both teams shortly before the final whistle. Mallia was forced off five minutes before full-time with a suspected torn ACL. Curry was penalised for the hit, but the incident was not reviewed by the television match official (TMO), Eric Gauzins. Contepomi condemned the lack of review and labelled the challenge ‘reckless’. ‘He was reckless and broke our player’s knee. I know it is rugby, but if we do not look after each other it becomes dangerous,’ he told reporters. England Coach Defends Curry: ‘His Character Is Unquestionable’ England head coach Steve Borthwick said he was aware of the tunnel confrontation involving Curry and Argentina’s staff. ‘I did not see it, I was not there, I was in the changing room at the time. I am aware of it,’ he said. Borthwick defended Curry’s reputation and called him a model professional. ‘I think anybody who has had any contact with Tom Curry knows his character is impeccable. He is a fantastic team man and a very respectful guy,’ he said. ‘I think Tom Curry’s character is unquestionable.’ He added that he did not want the incident to overshadow what he described as a fiercely contested Test match. Curry’s Past Incidents With Mallia This is not the first time Curry and Mallia have been involved in a high-profile collision. During the 2023 Rugby World Cup, the pair clashed heads within minutes of kick-off, leaving both players needing medical attention. Curry was sent off just two minutes into that match and later received a two-game suspension.

Dispatch is “freaking fantastic” and full of lessons, says 007 First Light developer
IO Interactive’s CEO Hakan Abrak recently spoke to gamesindustry. biz about 007 First Light, Hitman, and what’s going on at the studio. During the interview, Abrak hails Dispatch as a “freaking fantastic” game and believes it is full of potential lessons for how to successfully pull off episodic releases in the future. Abrak was asked about Dispatch because of how its success compares to Hitman in 2016. Dispatch is showing episodic releases can still be highly successful, meanwhile, Hitman was heavily criticized. The IO Interactive CEO sings the praises of Dispatch as “freaking fantastic” and a “very, very nice game”. Abrak also admits that IO Interactive was “too early with the concept, and there were many, many mistakes made”. One of the biggest mistakes was the developer “banging on [about how] one Hitman level can yield 50 hours plus of gameplay, whereas the Dispatch structure is a bit different”. This is because “It’s a much more episodic format, where yes, you can go back and kiss Mandy, or not kiss her,” but there’s still less replay, and “when there’s less replay opportunity, then you want to have the next episode coming sooner”. Abrak believes “there are learnings” from Dispatch and that it’s a “huge topic”. These potential lessons raise questions about “the future of gaming,” such as “Do all games need to be 40 hours?”. 007 First Light is coming out on March 27, and IO says they wanted to “make our own James Bond”. The game isn’t episodic, so it doesn’t need to worry about criticisms levied at Hitman, but Abrak is “thinking” about potential lessons from Dispatch “for future instalments”. Dispatch shows path to success for episodic releases Dispatch shows that episodic releases can still be extremely successful. The key reason for its success is that Episodes 1 and 2 came out on October 22, capped off by Episodes 7 and 8 on November 12. All episodes were out in three weeks, which is much faster than Hitman, where it took seven months for all six episodes to release. The Dispatch model is also a lot quicker than Telltale Games’. Telltale attempted to release new episodes every month, but sometimes it took much longer. Thanks to its episodic format, the Dispatch player count got bigger every week, thanks to extremely positive word of mouth. This helped it sell over 1 million copies in just 10 days and also contributed to the game being on track to beat its three-year sales target in just three months.

Crypto Market Cap Flirts With $3T Mark as Bitcoin Was Stopped at $88K: Market Watch
Bitcoin’s price recovery that started on Friday led the asset to $88,000 earlier today, where it faced an immediate rejection and now stands two grand below it. Most larger-cap alts have been quite sluggish on a daily basis, but ETH has remained above $2,800, and XRP has held above $2. 00. BTC Fails at $88K The previous business week started on the wrong foot, and the mood persisted for days. On Monday and Tuesday, BTC was violently rejected at $96,000 and pushed south to under $90,000. Although it bounced off to $94,000 almost immediately, the bears returned quickly and initiated even more painful leg downs until the rest of the week. After decisively losing the $90,000 support, bitcoin kept plunging and plummeted below $81,000 on Friday. This meant that the asset had lost $15,000 in the span of less than a week and tanked to a seven-month low. After this calamity, the cryptocurrency finally saw some relief following hopeful comments about an upcoming US Fed rate cut. It bounced off to $84,000 during the weekend and climbed further on Sunday afternoon and Monday morning to $88,000. However, that level was too strong for the asset. It was rejected there and driven down to $86,000 as of press time. Its market cap stands still at $1. 715 trillion on CG, while its dominance over the alts is close to 57%. M Up, ZEC Down Most larger-cap alts have failed to produce any significant moves over the past 24 hours. ETH, SOL, ADA, BCH, and LINK are slightly in the red, while XRP, BNB, TRX, DOGE, and HYPE are with insignificant gains. More painful declines come from XMR and DOT, while ZEC has plunged by 7% to under $540. In contrast, HBAR has surged by over 5%, while CC is up by 10%. MemeCore is the other notable gainer, following a 9% surge to over $1. 90. The total crypto market cap has lost around $30 billion in a day and is close to breaking below $3 trillion.

BBC Faces Massive Financial Hit with £1.1 Billion Loss as Licence Fee Payments Plummet
In 2025, the BBC confronts a dire financial reckoning with a £1. 1 billion shortfall in lost licence fee revenue, driven by mass cancellations and rising evasion amid public discontent. This plummeting income, detailed in the Commons Public Accounts Committee report on 21 November 2025, underscores a broader crisis in public broadcasting. Allegations of bias, coupled with the rise of streaming services like Netflix and Disney+, have fuelled a crisis that threatens the very foundations of public service broadcasting. As households flock to ad-free alternatives, the corporation’s universal service mandate hangs in the balance, prompting urgent calls for funding reform in this era of media fragmentation and household licence fee refusal. Causes Behind the Licence Fee Plunge The sharp decline stems from a record 314, 000 fewer paid licences in 2024-25, reducing active ones to 23. 8 million from 24. 1 million the prior year. One in eight households now evades payments, with 3. 6 million declaring no need for a licence, costing £550 million in foregone funds. ‘The ground is shifting beneath the BBC’s feet the traditional enforcement method of household visits is seeing fewer and fewer returns at a time of heightened competition,’ the Public Accounts Committee warned on 21 November 2025. Perceptions of bias, amplified by scandals, have eroded trust. This aligns with GB News’ ascent, as broadcaster Ben Leo posted on 29 October 2025: ‘This is why the BBC is losing record numbers of licence fee payers. A further 300, 000 last year £50 million ($77 million) in revenue. Britain has had enough of being gaslit.’ Global streamers lure younger audiences, who sense the BBC reflects them only 51 per cent of the time. This accelerates TV licence refusals and compounds operational strains in a competitive media crisis. Operational and Programming Impacts This £1. 1 billion blow has forced content budget slashes, with 2025/26 outlays dipping £130 million amid revenue shortfalls. Regional news hubs face restructuring, potentially weakening local coverage. ‘While efforts to distribute itself more equitably across the nation are welcome in principle, the BBC must ensure that greater distribution does not equal greater dilution of the authentic local quality of its coverage,’ cautions the 21 November 2025 analysis. A digital-first push, including TikTok news clips, boosts youth reach yet sidelines those lacking broadband, endangering universal access. ‘The BBC is an organisation under severe pressure,’ the report affirms, as commercial IP lags targets, curbing monetisation potential. Licence proceeds of £3. 8 billion met only 65 per cent of the £5. 9 billion total income demand ending March 2025. The squeeze has curtailed programming diversity and innovation, leaving viewers to decry reduced relevance, amplifying the BBC revenue drop’s toll on cultural output. Pathways to Funding Renewal Reform imperatives emerge, including a broadband tax or government grants from general taxation to supplant the creaking model. Culture Secretary Lucy Nandy hinted on 6 October 2025 at a hybrid model that blends public funds, commercials, and subscriptions for sustainability. ‘The licence fee needs reform. We are actively exploring all options that can make our funding model fairer, more sustainable,’ a BBC spokesperson declared. The 2025 Charter review presents a modernisation window, advocating digitised collections to curb evasion.
