Pro Cougs NBA: Thompson finds his swagger and Gueye rides the pine

**Cougs Making Waves in the NBA: Weekly Performance Breakdown**

Jaylen Wells and Cedric Coward have firmly established themselves as the best Coug duo in professional sports, surpassing Jaden Hicks and Jaylen Watson. Meanwhile, Mouhamed Gueye, once dubbed “Mr. Consistent,” has shifted to more of a “Mr. Backup” role with Jalen Johnson’s return to the lineup. And of course, Klay Thompson continues to light up the scoreboard with his stellar shooting.

Here’s a detailed look at how all the NBA Cougs performed this past week:

### Mouhamed Gueye (Atlanta Hawks)

Gueye’s action was limited last week, playing in only three games due to an injury and the NBA Cup tournament. With Jalen Johnson back and performing well for the Hawks, Gueye’s minutes have understandably decreased, pushing him back to the bench.

– Against the Washington Wizards, Gueye logged 9 minutes, scoring 4 points and grabbing 1 rebound.
– In the match versus the Detroit Pistons, he had his best outing with 8 points, 2 rebounds, and 1 block in 17 minutes.
– Closing out the week, he contributed 1 point, 1 block, 1 rebound, and 1 steal in 11 minutes.

It wasn’t the most ideal week for Gueye, finishing with what Charles Barkley might call “a triple single.” Despite limited impact, he remains a solid contributor when on the floor.

### Jaylen Wells (Memphis Grizzlies)

Due to the Grizzlies’ early exit from the NBA Cup tournament, Wells only saw action in one game last week. However, star point guard Ja Morant’s return to the lineup greatly benefited Wells, as Morant’s presence on the court demands significant defensive attention.

– Against the Utah Jazz, Wells impressed with 19 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 steal, shooting an efficient 50% from beyond the arc.

The Grizzlies currently sit at a 11-14 record and have finally reunited their backcourt for the first time this season. Although the team lost the game, the dynamic trio of Wells, Morant, and Coward looks promising and should provide plenty of entertainment going forward.

### Klay Thompson (Dallas Mavericks)

In the Mavericks’ lone game last week against the Brooklyn Nets, Thompson was in top form.

– Playing 20 minutes, he scored 12 points, added 2 rebounds, and 2 assists while shooting 42.9% from three-point range.

Since November 14, Thompson has only shot below 35% on three-point attempts three times, a marked improvement compared to the start of the season where that happened three times in just two weeks.

Interestingly, Thompson’s shooting upswing coincides with his relationship with rapper Megan Thee Stallion, sparking speculation about the positive impact she has on his game. Known for his straightforward and quiet personality, Thompson has undoubtedly gained some added swagger both on and off the court.

### Cedric Coward (Memphis Grizzlies)

Coward also appeared in a single game last week but made a big impact, posting a near triple-double despite initial questions about how his role might change with Morant’s return.

– He finished with 17 points, 12 rebounds, and 6 assists.

Coward’s role appears to be elevated, benefiting from more opportunities and better spacing on the floor. While he may not be favored to win Rookie of the Year this season—thanks to standout performances by Dallas’ Cooper Flagg—Coward’s contributions have been impressive.

### Looking Ahead

Overall, it was a strong week for the Cougs. Although gameplay was somewhat limited due to the NBA Cup tournament, the players made the most of their opportunities to shine.

With All-Star and Rising Star voting set to begin soon, it will be exciting to see if these WSU products can secure spots and continue making an impact in the league. Stay tuned for more updates on their performances as the season progresses!

XRP Tests Critical $1.88 Support Zone Amid Market Uncertainty

Selling pressure has been building up, causing XRP to decline to the $1.88 level. Traders are paying close attention as the price action tests this macro support zone in a market that is experiencing a reduction in supply. XRP appears to have found a turning point in its recent price direction after falling below the support zone of $1.93. The selling pressure in the market has been escalating steadily.

As highlighted by Skipper_XRP on X, XRP has recently dipped below critical support levels, signaling a possible repositioning among traders. In the short term, technical factors are dominating price action, influencing trading decisions more than long-term fundamentals.

Currently, XRP is testing the $1.88 area, which coincides with the macro 0.5 Fibonacci support level. According to PrecisionTrade3 on X, this is a very strong level of support. While this zone can be intimidating, PrecisionTrade3 reassures traders, saying, “No need to worry or panic!” The $1.88 mark has been established as a critical line—any sustained drop below this level could lead to further losses. Should the price fall lower, the next significant support level lies at $1.85.

Despite ongoing inflows from spot ETFs in recent weeks, the current market movement appears to be primarily driven by technical positioning rather than fundamental developments. Traders are focusing more on short-term price movements than long-term narratives.

Interestingly, the supply of XRP has dropped significantly during 2025. Available tokens have decreased by approximately 45% since January, falling from around 3.9 billion to about 1.6 billion. This notable reduction in supply adds another dimension to the market dynamics.

Persistent trading below $1.88 continues to apply downside pressure on XRP. However, a rebound from this support level could trigger a bullish trend. PrecisionTrade3 emphasizes that testing support levels is actually a positive sign. The analyst draws parallels between XRP’s current situation and the recent price behavior of Bitcoin.

Assuming XRP holds above these support levels and avoids retesting new lows, bullish sentiment is likely to be restored. PrecisionTrade3 states on X that the outlook could become “very bullish.” Nonetheless, there is still some division in the market in the short term. While some traders view the current price levels as prime accumulation zones, others expect further declines before stabilization occurs.

Indiana football makes historic Curt Cignetti flex after huge honor

The Indiana Hoosiers football program continues to redefine what is possible for a team once defined by limitations. From a national afterthought to college football’s elite, the Hoosiers’ rise to prominence reached another defining moment this week as long-term belief, disciplined leadership, and sustained excellence were rewarded on a national stage.

Indiana capped a perfect season with a 13-0 campaign, capturing the Big Ten title and securing the No. 1 overall seed in the College Football Playoff. This remarkable achievement was further highlighted as Curt Cignetti earned Associated Press Coach of the Year honors for the second straight year, cementing his and Indiana’s place in program history.

The Hoosiers celebrated this unprecedented accomplishment publicly on social media. The program’s official account on X (formerly known as Twitter) shared a message applauding the milestone and spotlighting Cignetti’s impact:
“The first ever back-to-back AP Coach of the Year, @CCignettiIU.”

Under Cignetti’s leadership, Indiana has rapidly transformed from a rebuilding team to the nation’s top-ranked squad. This turnaround has been marked by victories over traditional powerhouses and a comprehensive cultural reset within the program.

In an article published on ESPN and written by the Associated Press, Cignetti reflected on this milestone and the journey ahead. Prior to last week’s Big Ten Championship Game, he acknowledged that Indiana was still striving to close the gap with Ohio State in both recruiting and on the field. The Hoosiers’ 13-10 victory over the Buckeyes in that championship marked another defining step toward that goal.

“It’s another step we need to take as a program,” Cignetti said after the game. “It’s a great win, obviously. And we’re going to go in the playoffs as the No. 1 seed. And a lot of people probably thought that wasn’t possible. But when you get the right people and you have a plan and they love one another and play for one another and they commit, anything’s possible.”

Scripture: David and Goliath

1 Samuel 17

Now the Philistines gathered their armies for battle; and they were gathered at Socoh, which belongs to Judah, and encamped between Socoh and Aze′kah, in E′phes-dam′mim. And Saul and the men of Israel were gathered, and encamped in the valley of Elah, and drew up in line of battle against the Philistines.

And the Philistines stood on the mountain on the one side, and Israel stood on the mountain on the other side, with a valley between them. And there came out from the camp of the Philistines a champion named Goliath, of Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span.

He had a helmet of bronze on his head, and he was armed with a coat of mail, and the weight of the coat was five thousand shekels of bronze. And he had greaves of bronze upon his legs, and a javelin of bronze slung between his shoulders.

And the shaft of his spear was like a weaver’s beam, and his spear’s head weighed six hundred shekels of iron; and his shield-bearer went before him.

He stood and shouted to the ranks of Israel, “Why have you come out to draw up for battle? Am I not a Philistine, and are you not servants of Saul? Choose a man for yourselves, and let him come down to me. If he is able to fight with me and kill me, then we will be your servants; but if I prevail against him and kill him, then you shall be our servants and serve us.”

And the Philistine said, “I defy the ranks of Israel this day; give me a man, that we may fight together.”

When Saul and all Israel heard these words of the Philistine, they were dismayed and greatly afraid.

Now David was the son of an Eph′rathite of Bethlehem in Judah, named Jesse, who had eight sons. In the days of Saul the man was already old and advanced in years.

The three eldest sons of Jesse had followed Saul to the battle; and the names of his three sons who went to the battle were Eli′ab the first-born, and next to him Abin′adab, and the third Shammah.

David was the youngest; the three eldest followed Saul, but David went back and forth from Saul to feed his father’s sheep at Bethlehem.

For forty days the Philistine came forward and took his stand, morning and evening.

And Jesse said to David his son, “Take for your brothers an ephah of this parched grain, and these ten loaves, and carry them quickly to the camp to your brothers; also take these ten cheeses to the commander of their thousand. See how your brothers fare, and bring some token from them.”

Now Saul, and they, and all the men of Israel, were in the valley of Elah, fighting with the Philistines.

And David rose early in the morning, and left the sheep with a keeper, and took the provisions, and went, as Jesse had commanded him; and he came to the encampment as the host was going forth to the battle line, shouting the war cry.

And Israel and the Philistines drew up for battle, army against army.

And David left the things in charge of the keeper of the baggage, and ran to the ranks, and went and greeted his brothers.

As he talked with them, behold, the champion, the Philistine of Gath, Goliath by name, came up out of the ranks of the Philistines, and spoke the same words as before.

And David heard him.

All the men of Israel, when they saw the man, fled from him, and were much afraid.

And the men of Israel said, “Have you seen this man who has come up? Surely he has come up to defy Israel; and the man who kills him, the king will enrich with great riches, and will give him his daughter, and make his father’s house free in Israel.”

And David said to the men who stood by him, “What shall be done for the man who kills this Philistine, and takes away the reproach from Israel? For who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?”

And the people answered him in the same way, “So shall it be done to the man who kills him.”

Now Eli′ab his eldest brother heard when he spoke to the men; and Eli′ab’s anger was kindled against David, and he said, “Why have you come down? And with whom have you left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know your presumption, and the evil of your heart; for you have come down to see the battle.”

And David said, “What have I done now? Was it not but a word?” And he turned away from him toward another, and spoke in the same way; and the people answered him again as before.

When the words which David spoke were heard, they repeated them before Saul; and he sent for him.

And David said to Saul, “Let no man’s heart fail because of him; your servant will go and fight with this Philistine.”

And Saul said to David, “You are not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him; for you are but a youth, and he has been a man of war from his youth.”

But David said to Saul, “Your servant used to keep sheep for his father; and when there came a lion, or a bear, and took a lamb from the flock, I went after him and smote him and delivered it out of his mouth; and if he arose against me, I caught him by his beard, and smote him and killed him.

Your servant has killed both lions and bears; and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be like one of them, seeing he has defied the armies of the living God.”

And David said, “The Lord who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear, will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.”

And Saul said to David, “Go, and the Lord be with you!”

Then Saul clothed David with his armour; he put a helmet of bronze on his head, and clothed him with a coat of mail.

And David girded his sword over his armour, and he tried in vain to go, for he was not used to them.

Then David said to Saul, “I cannot go with these; for I am not used to them.” And David put them off.

Then he took his staff in his hand, and chose five smooth stones from the brook, and put them in his shepherd’s bag or wallet; his sling was in his hand, and he drew near to the Philistine.

And the Philistine came on and drew near to David, with his shield-bearer in front of him.

And when the Philistine looked, and saw David, he disdained him; for he was but a youth, ruddy and comely in appearance.

And the Philistine said to David, “Am I a dog, that you come to me with sticks?” And the Philistine cursed David by his gods.

The Philistine said to David, “Come to me, and I will give your flesh to the birds of the air and to the beasts of the field.”

Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword and with a spear and with a javelin; but I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.

This day the Lord will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you down, and cut off your head; and I will give the dead bodies of the host of the Philistines this day to the birds of the air and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel, and that all this assembly may know that the Lord saves not with sword and spear; for the battle is the Lord’s and he will give you into our hand.”

When the Philistine arose and came and drew near to meet David, David ran quickly toward the battle line to meet the Philistine.

And David put his hand in his bag and took out a stone, and slung it, and struck the Philistine on his forehead; the stone sank into his forehead, and he fell on his face to the ground.

So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and struck the Philistine, and killed him; there was no sword in the hand of David.

Then David ran and stood over the Philistine, and took his sword and drew it out of its sheath, and killed him, and cut off his head with it.

When the Philistines saw that their champion was dead, they fled.

And the men of Israel and Judah rose with a shout and pursued the Philistines as far as Gath and the gates of Ekron, so that the wounded Philistines fell on the way from Sha-ara′im as far as Gath and Ekron.

And the Israelites came back from chasing the Philistines, and they plundered their camp.

And David took the head of the Philistine and brought it to Jerusalem; but he put his armour in his tent.

When Saul saw David go forth against the Philistine, he said to Abner, the commander of the army, “Abner, whose son is this youth?”

And Abner said, “As your soul lives, O king, I cannot tell.”

And the king said, “Inquire whose son the stripling is.”

And as David returned from the slaughter of the Philistine, Abner took him, and brought him before Saul with the head of the Philistine in his hand.

And Saul said to him, “Whose son are you, young man?”

And David answered, “I am the son of your servant Jesse the Bethlehemite.”

The taxi windscreen’s broken, lightning-starred with a crack from one corner: signature of a stone from the Oaxaca road. It drops me by the shanty-town of stalls where I will buy her plastic image later garish, I hope, and cheap, for kitsch is authenticity.

A jagged rift of space splits the old basilica’s perfect Baroque, an intricately-cracked stone egg atilt on sliding subsoil where the Aztec city’s lake was carelessly filled in.

Crowds pass its listing shell without a glance, heading for the concrete-and-stained-glass swirl that mimics Juan Diego’s cloak, where she appeared and painted her own image on the fabric to show sceptical bishops how perfect love could visit a poor Indian after the wars, and fill his cloak with roses.

Now the cloak’s under glass behind the altar. A priest celebrates Mass, but we walk round the side to queue for the moving pavement that will take us closer, its mechanical glide into the dark floating us past the sacred cloth and her miraculous, soft, downcast gaze: not Spanish and not Indian but both, lovely mestiza Virgin, reconciler who stands against the flashbulbs’ irregular pizzicato of exploding stars, and while we slide on interlocking steel opens for us her mantle, from which roses pour and pour in torrents, like blood from a wound that may never be healed.

Patrick Mahomes Breaks Silence on Major Knee Injury in Telling Post

The Kansas City Chiefs’ 2025 season came to a devastating halt on December 14, following the shocking news that quarterback Patrick Mahomes suffered a serious knee injury during the team’s elimination loss to the Los Angeles Chargers.

Shortly after the game, Mahomes addressed his injury in a heartfelt post on X, writing:
“Don’t know why this had to happen. And not going to lie it hurts. But all we can do now is trust in God and attack every single day over and over again. Thank you Chiefs Kingdom for always supporting me and for everyone who has reached out and sent prayers. I will be back stronger than ever ⏰.”

This message immediately alarmed fans and followers, who feared the worst after reading the quarterback’s somber words. Unfortunately, those fears were soon confirmed.

### Patrick Mahomes Suffers Torn ACL

NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport and ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter were among the first to report that Mahomes had suffered a torn ACL. This injury officially ends what has been a nightmare season for the star quarterback.

Since becoming the Chiefs’ starter, Mahomes has not missed an AFC Championship game—or even the postseason in general—making this setback all the more significant.

### What’s Next for Mahomes and the Chiefs?

Looking ahead to the 2026 season, the primary concern is whether Mahomes will recover in time for Week 1. Recovery from a torn ACL typically takes anywhere from nine months to over a year. Mahomes is expected to undergo surgery sometime in December, meaning he will likely miss OTAs and training camp.

If his rehabilitation takes longer than expected, he could also miss part of the early 2026 schedule, leaving the Chiefs to adjust without their leader on the field.

### Mahomes’ Commitment to Recovery

Throughout his career, Mahomes has been known for rarely missing time due to injury and for his rigorous training regimen focused on flexibility and pliability to prevent injury.

There is no doubt the quarterback will dedicate himself fully to his recovery. However, as he mentioned in his post, some things are ultimately in the hands of a higher power.

The Chiefs Kingdom will undoubtedly be rooting for their superstar to come back stronger than ever.

Ukraine offers to drop NATO bid as Trump envoy sees progress in peace talks — Reuters

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskiy offered to drop the country’s long-held ambition of joining NATO during five hours of talks with US envoys in Berlin on Sunday, according to Reuters. The discussions, aimed at ending the war with Russia, are set to continue on Monday.

Steve Witkoff, an envoy for former President Donald Trump, noted that “a lot of progress was made” during the talks. This development marks a significant shift for Ukraine, which has fought for NATO membership as a crucial safeguard against Russian aggression. Notably, Ukraine’s aspiration to join NATO is enshrined in its constitution.

The proposal to abandon NATO ambitions aligns with one of Russia’s key demands in the ongoing conflict. However, Ukraine has thus far refused to cede any territory to Moscow.

**Market Reaction**

In response to the latest developments, the gold price (XAU/USD) is up 0.16% on the day, trading at $4,306 at press time.

Bitterly Cold Temperatures to Sweep Chicago Area This Weekend

The National Weather Service has issued a cold weather advisory for northern and central Illinois and northwest Indiana from 8 p.m. Saturday through noon Sunday. Wind chills are expected to fall between –15°F and –25°F Saturday night, with the coldest conditions in northwest Illinois. Temperatures will remain below zero on Sunday.

Chicago Bears Game Forecast
When the Chicago Bears take on the Cleveland Browns at Soldier Field on Sunday at noon, forecasters predict a high of just 12°F. Lows will dip back into the single digits by nightfall, making it one of the coldest games in the stadium’s history.

• Limiting time outdoors and taking frequent warm-up breaks
• Checking on vulnerable friends, family members and neighbors

Local Preparations
• Some suburbs have canceled activities and holiday events planned for the weekend.
• The city of Chicago has opened several warming centers on Saturday and Sunday, including libraries and Chicago Park District locations.
• The Garfield Community Service Center at 10 South Kedzie Ave. is open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
