Bhopal News: Traffic Fine Pile Up; E-Challans Worth Over ₹5 Crore Issued, Only ₹50 Lakh Paid So Far

**Bhopal’s Intelligent Traffic Management System Issues Thousands of E-Challans, but Fine Payments Remain Low**

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) in Bhopal continues to monitor traffic violations closely and issue e-challans regularly. However, despite the high number of fines being generated, the majority of offenders have yet to pay their dues.

According to data from the city traffic police, from January to September this year, a total of 1,54,500 e-challans were issued for various traffic violations, including red light jumping, not wearing helmets, over-speeding, and triple riding. Unfortunately, only 13,398 violators have cleared their fines so far.

Out of a total penalty amounting to Rs 5,33,02,100, just Rs 50,13,600 has been collected. This leaves approximately Rs 4.82 crore pending from 1,41,102 offenders.

### Most Common Violations

The data highlights that riding without a helmet remains the most frequent violation recorded by ITMS cameras. Red signal jumping is the second most common offense. Over-speeding, although a major cause of road accidents, accounts for comparatively fewer challans. Of the 3,759 over-speeding challans issued, only 760 fines have been paid.

Similarly, many two-wheelers carrying three riders have been fined, yet payment compliance in these cases also remains poor.

### Monthly Trends

When viewed month-wise, July saw the highest number of e-challans at 24,881. However, by the end of September, this number had dropped sharply to 7,179. In May, the total challans issued were 10,475.

### Enforcement vs. Compliance

Additional DCP (Traffic), Basant Kumar Kaul, acknowledged that while ITMS has been effective in identifying violators and issuing fines efficiently, ensuring payment recovery remains a challenge. He emphasized that the primary goal of e-challans is not just to collect fines but to promote responsible driving habits among citizens.

### Violation Breakdown

– Not wearing helmet: 1,29,137 challans
– Red light jumping: 16,898 challans
– Triple riding: 4,706 challans
– Over-speeding: 3,759 challans

Vegas and Jack Eichel agree on an 8-year, $108 million contract extension, AP source says

Jack Eichel and the Vegas Golden Knights have agreed to terms on an eight-year contract extension worth $108 million, according to a person familiar with the deal. Eichel will count $13.5 million against the salary cap from the time the new contract kicks in for the 2026-27 season through 2034.

The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Wednesday because the extension had not been announced.

The soon-to-be 29-year-old center is the latest high-profile player to re-up with his current team after Minnesota’s Kirill Kaprizov inked the richest deal in league history at $136 million over eight years. Connor McDavid opted to stay in Edmonton on a short-term deal without a raise from his current $12.5 million salary, and Kyle Connor re-signed in Winnipeg for the maximum eight years at $12 million annually.

Eichel is coming off setting career highs with 66 assists and 94 points last season, when the Golden Knights finished first in the Pacific Division. He helped them win the Stanley Cup in 2023. His representatives and Vegas’ front office reached the agreement roughly six hours before the start of the season.

Asked before training camp opened if he would shut down negotiations once meaningful games got going, Eichel brushed off the question.

“If a contract happens organically, then it happens,” Eichel said last month in Las Vegas at the NHL/NHLPA preseason player media tour. “You can only control so much, right, and that’s sort of in my mindset. What are the things that I focus on? Preparing for the season, getting my mind and body in the best place to be successful and help our hockey team. That’s more so my focus. I think anything else sort of just takes care of itself when you do your job well.”

Eichel was the second pick in the 2015 draft by Buffalo. He played his first five-plus seasons for the Sabres before a dispute over surgery to repair his neck injury led to a trade to Vegas in 2021.

Since undergoing artificial disk replacement, Eichel has produced above a point-a-game level for the Knights. He was the No. 1 center for the U.S. at the 4 Nations Face-Off and was already named to the Olympic team.

By Eurohoops team | info@eurohoops.net

Back-to-back Basketball Champions League (BCL) champions Unicaja are back, and they immediately showed their power in the 2025/26 Regular Season opener.

Defending BCL champions Unicaja secured a resounding 97-66 home win over Mersin Sports Club. Xavier Castaneda led the way with 17 points, while Kendrick Perry contributed 14. Tyler Kalinoski and Chris Duarte added 12 points each, and Tyson Perez along with Nihad Djedovic chipped in 10 points apiece.

Unicaja had 11 players on the scoring sheet and shot an impressive 18-of-34 from beyond the arc, showcasing their offensive firepower.

On the other side, Anthony Cowan stood out for Mersin with 17 points and four assists, being the only player to finish in double figures. Ben Bentil also contributed nine points for the visitors.

Unicaja dominated from the very start, winning the opening quarter 22-11 and extending their lead to 51-31 by halftime. By the end of the third quarter, the Malaga team held a commanding 23-point advantage, effectively putting the game out of reach.

Bombay HC blocks Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra’s international travel amid Rs 60 crores fraud case

**Bombay High Court Blocks Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra’s International Travel Amid Rs 60 Crores Fraud Case**

In a significant development in the ongoing Rs 60 crores fraud case involving Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty and her husband, businessman Raj Kundra, the Bombay High Court has raised serious questions about their request to travel abroad.

The couple had approached the court seeking permission to travel to Colombo and other destinations for a business trip. However, the court, led by Chief Justice Shree Chandrashekhar and Justice Gautam Ankhad, expressed scepticism over the nature of the trip.

Their counsel, Niranjan Mundargi, was directed to submit an affidavit detailing the purpose of the trip. This affidavit must include formal communications and evidence supporting the claim that it was indeed for business purposes. The court granted time until October 14 for the submission of these details.

During the proceedings, when Mundargi reiterated that the trip was for business, Chief Justice Shree Chandrashekhar remarked with a smile, “You can first deposit Rs 60 crores if you wish to travel abroad.” This comment underscores the court’s serious approach to the case and its scrutiny of the couple’s actions.

The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Mumbai Police is investigating the case, which alleges that Shetty and Kundra diverted investment funds for personal use. In light of the ongoing investigation, the court has not issued any immediate orders regarding the Look Out Circular (LOC) issued against them. The matter is scheduled for further hearing on October 14.

This development adds to the mounting legal challenges faced by the couple, who are under intense scrutiny over their financial dealings. As the investigation progresses, the court’s forthcoming decisions will be crucial in determining the future course of action.

**Related Investigation Involving Businessman Deepak Kothari**

In a related matter, the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Mumbai Police is investigating a case involving businessman Deepak Kothari. Kothari has accused Shetty and Kundra of diverting Rs 60 crores of his investment for personal use.

The EOW has found that Kothari’s funds were misused and has filed a case against Shetty, Kundra, and an unidentified associate under sections 403 (dishonest misappropriation of property), 406 (criminal breach of trust), and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.
