Fourteen days after one lane of Madam Cama Road, opposite Mantralaya, was closed due to a burst water pipeline, the main road was finally reopened for traffic on Friday. The reopening was facilitated by placing metal plates over the affected area to allow vehicular movement.

On September 12, a major water pipeline along Madam Cama Road burst, causing a 40-meter stretch of the cement concrete road to cave in. The British-era pipeline was repaired within two days. However, despite the quick repair, the road remained barricaded, leading to significant traffic jams and inconvenience for thousands of motorists, office-goers, and visitors to the state secretariat.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) road department had earlier stated that curing the cement concrete road would require two to three days. Due to this, the road closure persisted even after the pipeline repairs were completed.

To ease the traffic congestion, the BMC placed metal plates on the affected stretch on Thursday night, temporarily reopening the lane for traffic movement. A BMC official commented, “The curing is still underway. The metal plates are put over it in order to open the road for traffic movement, as the closure was causing traffic jams. The metal plates are temporary and will be removed once the curing of the cement concrete road is completed.”

In a disturbing case of online fraud, a senior citizen lawyer from Pimpri-Chinchwad was cheated out of ₹1.80 crore by imposters pretending to be officers from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The incident, which took place in Udyam Nagar, Pimpri, was reported to the Cyber Police Station on Wednesday.

Ganpat Balaji Kakade, a 73-year-old resident of Udyam Nagar, fell victim to the scam between September 4 and September 19. The fraudsters reportedly used Kakade’s Aadhaar card details and falsely claimed that money laundering activities were being conducted using his name. They threatened him with arrest in a fabricated money laundering case to intimidate him.

Fearing legal repercussions, the lawyer transferred a total of ₹1,80,37,000 to various bank accounts controlled by the suspects. The accused included individuals holding three different mobile numbers and four separate bank accounts.

According to police sources, the fraudsters not only threatened Ganpat Kakade but also warned him that his wife would be arrested if he failed to comply. They further cautioned the couple against discussing the matter with anyone, threatening that those people could be arrested as well. To gain the lawyer’s trust, the scammers went to the extent of sending fake PDF documents bearing the names of senior police officers.

A police official stated, “The suspects forced the lawyer to transfer funds into different bank accounts, assuring him that the money would be returned once a verification process was completed. However, the lawyer never received any refund.” Upon realizing that he had been duped, Kakade lodged a complaint with the authorities, and a formal investigation is currently underway.

This incident serves as a reminder to remain vigilant against such sophisticated scams and verify the authenticity of calls or messages claiming official authority.

Following a complaint lodged by Ayush’s mother, Kalyani, the police booked 15 individuals in connection with the case. These include Bandu (68), his son Krushna alias Krushnaraj Suryakant Andekar (40), nephews Shivam Udaykant Andekar (31), Shivraj Udaykant Andekar (29), and Abhishek Udaykant Andekar (21), their mother Lakshmi Udaykant Andekar (60), as well as sister Vrundavani Nilanjay Wadekar (40) and her children Swaraj (22) and Tushar Nilanjay Wadekar (26).

Bavge added that more than a thousand cases have been registered across Maharashtra under this legislation, thanks to the efforts of his group.

“Maharashtra has a law against black magic, but it appears there is limited awareness about it,” he remarked.

The law itself was drafted by anti-superstition activist and MANS founder Narendra Dabholkar, who was tragically murdered in Pune on August 20, 2013.

The discovery of the so-called ‘utara’—a concoction used in witchcraft—shocked both lawyers and litigants visiting the court. Reports suggest that similar materials had been placed outside all four gates of the court. Initially, housekeeping staff were reluctant to remove the items, but they were finally disposed of in the evening.

There are also reports of similar incidents occurring in the past.

Despite the unsettling nature of the discovery, members of the legal community have urged calm. However, Lodha reportedly sold this parcel to NBP Edutech LLP, a firm linked to his son.

The witness further revealed that upon examining the financial records of Lodha and his family, it was found that Lodha had destroyed all details related to their financial transactions. This act has raised significant concerns among investigators.

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): In a proactive move ahead of the upcoming festival season, the Bhopal Rural Police organized mock drills on Sunday in Itkhedi and Berasia areas to enhance preparedness and coordination.

The exercises were conducted under the direction of Superintendent of Police Ramsharan Prajapati and the guidance of Additional SP Neeraj Chaurasia.

At the Acharpura outpost within the Itkhedi police station jurisdiction, the drill simulated a farmers’ protest demanding higher compensation for crop loss caused by heavy rains. During the simulation, protesters raised slogans against the government. Despite efforts by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) to pacify the crowd, tensions escalated, leading to police intervention.

The drill showcased various crowd control measures including tear gas deployment, baton charges, and controlled firing. Two protesters and two policemen were reportedly injured during the exercise and were immediately provided medical aid via ambulance. Following the intervention, the police successfully dispersed the crowd and restored order.
