The Ultimate Guide To Self Publishing

At an event held in Kobe in September, more than 800 people gathered to sell or buy zines of all kinds. The atmosphere resembled a creative bazaar where each booklet reflected its maker’s imagination.

One artist presented a zine focused on a single Japanese character, deliberately written in an unreadable way to spark conversation with readers. The charm of zines lies in their complete freedom—there are no rules for layout, format, or content. Photography, essays, and illustration all coexist under one creative umbrella.

Zines also serve as a haven for enthusiasts of niche interests. Yoshida, one of the creators, compiled matchbox labels distributed at pachinko parlors during the Showa era. Though the designs may appear dated, he regards them as valuable historical artifacts documenting vanished storefronts.

“I probably have Japan’s largest collection of pachinko match labels,” he said with pride. Such topics would likely never pass a publisher’s filter, yet in zines, personal passion takes the lead—a key factor behind their appeal to both creators and readers.

“What makes zines fascinating,” said one customer, “is that they capture the creator’s character without being overly polished. It feels like pure self-expression.”

Among the many creators was first-class architect Chisato Otake, whose zine features imaginary floor plans. Her inspiration came from frustration in her day job.

“I often think, ‘If only I could design this kind of house,’ but clients’ needs don’t always align,” she explained. To bring her ideas to life, Otake selects real plots from real estate sites and designs homes according to professional building codes, even when the plans are purely imaginative.

“If I’m going to fantasize,” she said, “I may as well design a luxury property worth hundreds of millions of yen.” Her next project will focus on rooms, inspired by a period when she was bedridden and unable to work.

“It wasn’t about living a perfectly curated lifestyle,” she said, “but I’d like readers to feel a sense of empathy.” Though her architectural drawings are beautiful, Otake emphasizes that zines let her share vulnerability—something professional work rarely allows.

As digital media dominates communication, some wonder why zines continue to thrive. For many, the tactile nature of paper is irreplaceable.

“You can staple, clip, or decorate it however you want. That physical interaction is part of the fun,” said one participant. Because online content is so fleeting, people are rediscovering the appeal of printed matter.

Bookstores, too, are taking notice. One major retailer reported that zine sales now account for about 10 percent of total revenue.

“At first, it was just a small shelf,” said the manager. “But sales picked up quickly, so we expanded to three full shelves.” In an industry struggling with declining print sales, zines have become a new reason for people to visit bookstores.

As readers flip through each handmade page, they find themselves drawn deeper into the creator’s world—one that cannot be replicated on a screen.

Aぇ! Group’s Kusama Released From Custody After Public Indecency Arrest

When asked by reporters for a message to fans, Kusama once again bowed, tears in his eyes, saying, “I am truly sorry.”

Kusama, 29, was arrested early in the morning on October 4th on suspicion of public indecency after allegedly exposing his lower body near the entrance of a building in Tokyo’s Shinjuku Ward. A witness reported the incident to the police, and officers who arrived at the scene took him into custody. It is believed that he was intoxicated at the time.

The incident occurred about a year and a half after A! Group made their CD debut, during a period when Kusama had been active as both a singer and actor. His management company released a statement on October 4th saying, “We take this matter very seriously given its social impact and have decided to suspend Kusama’s activities.”

Two days after the arrest that shocked fans nationwide, police transferred Kusama to the prosecutors’ office on the morning of October 6th. As prosecutors did not file a request for detention, he was released the same afternoon. Authorities stated that investigations will continue while Kusama remains under non-custodial status.

The devastating weather has not spared neighboring Nepal either. According to *The Kathmandu Post*, water-induced disasters there have resulted in 47 deaths and nine people missing.

**Rescue Efforts**

In the midst of the chaos, elephants have emerged as unexpected heroes. Ravikant Jha, Assistant Wildlife Warden of Jaldapara, shared how elephants are aiding rescue efforts by transporting stranded tourists after a wooden bridge near a lodge collapsed. “Our elephants have brought 2-4 tourists across the river because the bridge broke due to rain,” he said.

Additionally, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has been actively involved in flood and water rescue operations. They have successfully rescued over 160 people from the affected areas—105 by boat and another 55 either airlifted or pulled across using zip lines in Jalpaiguri. During these operations, one deceased individual was also recovered.

Rishabh Pant set for Ranji Trophy return in late October

**Rishabh Pant Set for Ranji Trophy Return in Late October**

*By Rajdeep Saha | October 6, 2025, 6:59 PM*

Indian cricketer Rishabh Pant is on the verge of making a comeback to competitive cricket through the Ranji Trophy. According to The Times of India, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to evaluate his recovery status this week, with a potential clearance expected by October 10. If approved, Pant could be back playing for Delhi starting October 25.

**Assessment and Clearance**

A BCCI source revealed, “As of now, there is a likelihood he could be cleared by October 10. An assessment is due this week. It has been a long recovery for him. The BCCI medical team doesn’t want to take any chances.” Pant’s return will be contingent upon his fitness level and official approval from the BCCI.

**Recovery Progress and Injury Details**

Pant has been sidelined since July due to a fractured foot sustained during the fourth Test against England. Initially, the injury was expected to heal within six weeks; however, complications arose when the metatarsal bone in his right foot broke again under pressure as he attempted to bat the very next day after the injury.

Despite these setbacks, Pant has made significant strides in his recovery over the past 20 days, giving hope for his return to the field soon.

**Impact on Matches and Upcoming Schedule**

Pant has missed the ongoing two-Test series against the West Indies as well as the forthcoming white-ball tour of Australia. Nevertheless, depending on the clearance from the Center of Excellence (CoE) and his preparedness, he could participate in two Ranji Trophy matches before November 5.

This potential return is particularly important as India prepares for a home Test series against South Africa starting November 14.

**Pant’s Performance Against England**

In the recently concluded Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025, Pant delivered an impressive performance across four Test matches. In seven innings, he amassed 479 runs at an average of 68.42, including two centuries and three half-centuries. Additionally, he showcased his aggressive batting by hitting 17 sixes throughout the series.

Pant’s imminent return is eagerly awaited by fans and selectors alike, as he remains a key player for Indian cricket’s future.

Bihar Assembly elections: Voting in two phases on Nov 6, 11; result on Nov 14

**Bihar Assembly Elections 2025 Schedule Announced by Election Commission**

The Election Commission on Monday announced the schedule for the Bihar Assembly elections 2025. The state’s 243 assembly seats will go to the polls in two phases, on November 6 and 11, with the counting of votes set for November 14, reported ANI.

In the 2015 Assembly elections, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) secured 80 seats with an 18.8% vote share, while its ally, the Congress, won 27 seats with 6.8%. The Janata Dal (United), then part of the Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance), bagged 71 seats with 17.3% vote share. The BJP won 53 seats with the highest vote share at 25%, and other parties took 8 seats with a combined 22.5%.

However, the alliance was short-lived. In 2017, Nitish Kumar exited the Mahagathbandhan and realigned with the BJP-led NDA, forming the government with Sushil Kumar Modi as Deputy Chief Minister.

In 2020, Nitish Kumar retained power under the NDA banner, winning 125 seats. But in August 2022, he once again broke away from the BJP and re-joined the RJD and Congress, forming a new government and becoming a central figure in the opposition INDIA bloc.

In January 2024, ahead of the general elections, Nitish Kumar rejoined the NDA. This time, the NDA includes JD(U), BJP, Chirag Paswan’s Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), Jitin Manjhi’s Hindustan Awami Morcha, and Upendra Kushwaha’s Rashtriya Lok Samta Party (RLSP).

In the upcoming elections, the NDA will face off against the INDIA bloc, comprising Tejashwi Yadav’s RJD, Congress, CPI(ML), CPI, CPM, and Mukesh Sahani’s Vikasheel Insaan Party (VIP). A new entrant, Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj Party, will also make its debut.

The NDA is banking on the popularity of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the various welfare schemes rolled out by the Centre and State. Notably, on September 26, the PM launched the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana, transferring Rs 10,000 each to 75 lakh women’s bank accounts—a move being seen as a potential game changer, according to ANI.

The PM also unveiled youth-centric projects worth over Rs 62,000 crore, including the inauguration of the Jan Nayak Karpoori Thakur Skill University in Bihar.

Meanwhile, the BJP continues to highlight the alleged corruption and lawlessness of the Lalu Yadav era as part of its campaign narrative.

The Election Commission has also released the final electoral rolls following the Special Intensive Revision (SIR). The number of electors now stands at 7.42 crore, down from 7.89 crore in June.

According to the Commission, 65 lakh names were removed from the draft list, while 21.53 lakh new voters were added. Significant additions include 1.63 lakh voters in 14 Patna constituencies, 85,645 in Madhubani, and 56,423 in Nalanda after the revision process.
