象印マホービンは15日、大阪・関西万博の会場内に設置した全自動型「マイボトル洗浄機」10カ所の総使用回数が、15万8,488回に達したと発表しました。
この取り組みは、手持ちの水筒を繰り返し使うことでプラスチックごみの削減を目指すもので、CO2排出量の削減にもつながっています。今回の洗浄機の使用により、約12トンのCO2削減効果が見込まれています。

When asked about their favorite emoji, many respondents said they often use a crying face “because it’s cute” or a sleepy one “when I’m tired.” However, it is the puzzled-looking emoji that dominates usage across regions, particularly among Generation Z users.
“It’s the most popular one; everyone uses it,” said one participant from Malaysia. Another, from China’s Fujian Province, described it as “a cute, moe face,” while a man from Shandong Province explained that his sister often used it to “mock” him.
The emoji ranked first in countries including the United States and France, with users typically employing it to convey feelings of confusion or disbelief. “It’s a ‘Why?’ face,” said another user from Fujian.
Other popular emojis also reflect nuanced emotional communication. “This is the one I use a lot,” said a user from Hong Kong, referring to a resigned-looking face. “It means something like ‘Oh well.’ I also use a crying face a lot, especially when I’m tired of studying or have too much homework and want to complain to friends.”
These findings underscore how emojis have become a language of their own — a powerful tool for expressing feelings that transcend cultural and linguistic boundaries.

The foundation, in collaboration with Ushiriki Wema—an economic empowerment programme—aims to advance technology in schools through the provision of computers and other digital learning materials.
Madam Tessie Musalia, the Co-Founder and Managing Trustee, said the programme targets enabling students to have instant access to vast amounts of information, e-books, online libraries, and real-world learning through various digital platforms.
“We believe that every child deserves access to quality education as envisaged in our Constitution 2010, regardless of their background or circumstances. By donating computers to schools, especially in rural areas, we are taking a step towards bridging the digital divide and ensuring that every student has the chance to explore, learn, and grow in this digitally driven era,” she said.
Tessie, the spouse of Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, added that the initiative is supported by the United Nations through a partnership with the Office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary.
She made these remarks over the weekend during the donation of 30 desktops and 2 laptops to Mudavadi Girls High School in Madzuu, Vihiga County.
“These computers are part of 70 laptops and 30 desktops donated by the United Nations through the Office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary to promote IT in schools. I encourage students not only to use them for schoolwork but also to follow your curiosity, learn about the world, and dream big,” she said.
Madam Musalia emphasized that online platforms allow students to learn at their own pace and from various locations, accommodating different schedules and learning preferences.
She further encouraged teachers to equip students to connect with peers and experts globally through online tools, enabling collaborative projects and discussions across different locations.
“Technology has become an essential tool in education as it opens doors to knowledge beyond classrooms. When we invest in education, we invest in a stronger, smarter, and more hopeful tomorrow,” she added.
The programme will also complement the ongoing government initiative focused on building computer labs in schools across the country. The foundation is actively seeking to bring on board more partners and donors, both locally and internationally, to support this important cause.

**Calls for Stronger Local Interconnection to Maximise Digital Investments**
Upgraded infrastructure will boost data sovereignty, lower costs, and support Malaysia’s rise as a regional digital hub.
The Malaysia Internet Exchange (MyIX) has welcomed the Madani Budget 2026 as a decisive step towards strengthening Malaysia’s digital backbone. The government’s focus on submarine cable infrastructure, nationwide connectivity, 5G expansion, artificial intelligence, and digital inclusion are seen as critical enablers of the nation’s future.
MyIX Chairman Chiew Kok Hin highlighted that the government’s commitment of more than US$880 million (RM4 billion) in digital infrastructure investments demonstrates Malaysia’s readiness to compete as a regional digital hub. However, he emphasized that global investments must be matched by resilient domestic interconnection.
> “As digital highways such as submarine cables, AI clouds, and 5G networks are being built, the true benefits only reach the rakyat when traffic flows locally and securely. At MyIX, our role is to anchor these capacities so that every Malaysian enjoys lower costs, smoother streaming, faster cloud access, and assured data sovereignty,” Chiew said.
The Budget allocates US$440 million (RM2 billion) for the Sambungan Kabel Dasar Laut Madani (SALAM) submarine cable, linking Johor, Sarawak, and Sabah. Additionally, another US$440 million (RM2 billion) is designated for a Sovereign AI Cloud, alongside continued 5G rollout, MyDigital ID adoption, and global investments from Microsoft, Google, and Amazon Web Services.
Chiew noted that Amazon, Google, and Microsoft are among MyIX’s global peering partners, supporting the exchange’s mission to enhance the speed, resilience, and affordability of Malaysia’s internet.
The measures outlined in Budget 2026 reflect strong foresight and position Malaysia as an emerging regional AI and digital hub. Chiew added:
> “The government’s commitment to submarine cables, AI infrastructure, and 5G rollout will unlock unprecedented capacity. At MyIX, our role is to ensure these investments translate into real benefits for Malaysians through efficient local traffic routing. This is how we strengthen digital sovereignty while enabling inclusive growth.”
He also highlighted the Budget’s focus on the development of Sabah and Sarawak, alongside initiatives such as GovTech digitalisation, MyDigital ID expansion, and tax incentives for AI and cybersecurity adoption. These steps will further broaden access to the digital economy nationwide.
> “By localising internet traffic, MyIX reduces reliance on foreign routing and ensures that connectivity gains are felt across the nation—from rural areas to urban centres in the Klang Valley. As Malaysia builds towards AI Nation 2030, low-latency interconnection will be the invisible layer powering AI, 5G, and cloud adoption for government, businesses, and the rakyat alike,” Chiew explained.
Currently, MyIX operates across Kuala Lumpur, Cyberjaya, Johor Bahru, and Kuching, serving as key interconnection points for seamless traffic exchange. The exchange continues to deliver significant cost reductions, foreign exchange savings, and faster local internet speeds, while enhancing national resilience and efficiency.
The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), which was instrumental in MyIX’s formation in 2006, remains actively engaged in the exchange’s ongoing development.
