Kerala (Thiruvananthapuram): Health Minister Veena George announced that all medicines manufactured by Sresan Pharmaceuticals, a company based in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu, have been banned from distribution and sale in Kerala. Pakistan: At Least 19 TTP Militants, 11 Soldiers Killed Intelligence Based Operation In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

**Peshawar:** At least 19 militants of the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) group were killed in a clash with the Pakistan military in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Orakzai district on Wednesday, October 8. The area borders Afghanistan and has been a hotspot for militant activity.

Meanwhile, 11 Pakistani soldiers lost their lives during the intelligence-based operation targeting terrorists belonging to the group known as “Fitna al-Khawarij.” According to a statement released by the military’s media wing, among the deceased soldiers were a Lieutenant Colonel and a Major.

The military statement confirmed that a sanitisation operation is currently underway to eliminate any remaining terrorists in the area. The names of the fallen soldiers have been disclosed as follows: Lieutenant Colonel Junaid Arif, Major Tayyab Rahat, Naib Subedar Azam Gul, Havildar Adil Hussain, Naik Gul Ameer, Lance Naik Talish Faraz, Lance Naik Sher Khan, Lance Naik Irshad Hussain, Sepoy Tufail, Sepoy Muhammad Zahid, and Sepoy Aqib Ali.

In a related incident on the same day, some reports indicated that 11 Pakistan security personnel were killed in an ambush by the TTP in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Kurram district. Reports stated that a convoy of paramilitary soldiers was initially targeted by bombs, followed by a heavy attack when a large number of terrorists opened fire on the convoy.

The TTP, in a statement to Reuters, confirmed that their fighters carried out the attack on the convoy.

MIAMI (AP) — Hurricane Priscilla was approaching Category 3 strength on Tuesday in the Pacific, while a new tropical storm was gaining power in the Atlantic, according to the U.S. National Hurricane Center.

Located just off the west coast of Mexico, Priscilla was spinning with maximum sustained winds of around 105 mph (169 kph) and moving northwest at 9 mph (15 kph). As of Tuesday night, the hurricane was centered about 185 miles (295 kilometers) southwest of the southern tip of Baja California.

On Tuesday, the outer bands of Hurricane Priscilla were extending across the Mexican state of Baja California Sur. The Mexican government responded by issuing a tropical storm watch for Baja California Sur, from Cabo San Lucas to Cabo San Lazaro.

In a preventive measure, the government of Baja California Sur canceled classes at all educational centers starting Tuesday in Los Cabos and La Paz. They also set up a dozen shelters in Los Cabos for residents living in high-risk areas.

Parts of southwestern Mexico could receive up to 4 inches (10 centimeters) of rain from Priscilla through Wednesday, raising the risk of flash flooding, especially in the states of Michoacán and Colima, forecasters warned.

Priscilla is expected to weaken starting Wednesday. A major hurricane is defined as Category 3 or higher, with wind speeds of at least 111 mph (180 kph). Swells from Priscilla were already reaching the coast of Mexico, causing life-threatening surf and dangerous rip currents.

Atlantic Tropical Storm Jerry Strengthens

In the Atlantic Ocean, Tropical Storm Jerry maintained top winds of 50 mph (85 kph) early Wednesday. The storm was centered approximately 950 miles (1,530 kilometers) east-southeast of the northern Leeward Islands and moving west-northwest at 23 mph (37 kph).

Forecasters said Jerry is expected to strengthen into a hurricane within the next day or two. Swells from Jerry were anticipated to reach the Leeward Islands by Thursday, with the storm’s core moving near or north of the northern Leeward Islands late Thursday and Friday.

A tropical storm watch was issued for Barbuda and Anguilla, St. Barthelemy, St. Martin, and Sint Maarten as a precaution.

Other Pacific Activity

Farther out in the Pacific, Tropical Storm Octave was weakening about 750 miles (1,205 kilometers) southwest of the southern tip of Baja California. It was moving east-southeast at 7 mph (11 kph) with maximum sustained winds of 45 mph (75 kph).

Jack the Ripper copycat who murdered two women after stalking the streets of Whitechapel dies in prison aged 64

A Jack the Ripper copycat who murdered two women after stalking them through the streets of London like the notorious Victorian murderer has died at the age of 64.

Derek Brown, dubbed the ‘Modern Ripper,’ was jailed for a minimum of 30 years on October 6, 2008, after being found guilty of murdering DVD seller Xiao Mei Guo, 29, and prostitute Bonnie Barrett, 24. He denied murder but admitted to paying both women for sex before their disappearances in 2007.

The previously convicted rapist found his victims in the Whitechapel area of London, famously associated with Jack the Ripper in the 1880s. A search of Brown’s Rotherhithe flat uncovered traces of blood belonging to both women, as well as a receipt for a bow saw, heavy-duty gloves, rubble sacks, and cleaning materials. It is believed that he hacked his victims apart before disposing of their remains.

Brown was serving his sentence in HMP Wakefield when he reportedly became unwell on September 27. He was taken to hospital and died two days later, just days before his 65th birthday.

The remorseless killer’s victims’ remains have never been found.

A source close to former delivery driver Brown said:
“He was in critical care since Saturday. They found him in his cell on Saturday, and he was in critical care since Saturday 5 pm until Monday when he died at 3 pm.”

At the time of the murders, police believed Brown sought notoriety for the killings. Detective Chief Inspector Mark Kandiah said:
“If he kept killing prostitutes from the Whitechapel area, then that link (with Jack the Ripper) would be made. If this was a spree, it seems likely that we stopped him at number two.”

During his court case, sentencing Judge Martin Stephens told Brown:
“You have shown not a sliver of remorse. You murdered two women. Both were vulnerable, plying their trade on the streets, in each case falling into your hands precisely because of their availability and their lack of protection. What you did to each of those women before you killed them we can only speculate about. How you killed them we cannot know. What we do know is you disposed of their bodies with frightening efficiency so that not a trace of either woman has been found.”

Mrs. Guo was last seen in August 2007 selling DVDs at Whitechapel Market. CCTV footage showed her with Brown near Whitechapel Tube station, the court heard. Miss Barrett disappeared from the same area on September 18, 2007.

Police spent over 800 hours searching for their bodies, including specialist diver searches in the Thames. Judge Stephens noted that there was clear circumstantial evidence proving Brown dismembered and disposed of the bodies.
“The only person who could prove this not to be true would be you, if you ever chose to tell the police where their bodies or remains could be found,” the judge added. “The anguish of both victims’ families is exacerbated, made much worse by their inability to lay each lady to rest.”

The prosecution stated that Brown targeted the women because they were “soft targets” and would not be missed.

Commenting on his death, a Prison Service spokesman said:
“Derek Brown died in hospital on September 29 while serving a sentence at HMP Wakefield. As with all deaths in custody, the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman will investigate.”
